Bridge

Bayer lowers his radio and leans out of the bridge window for the machine gunners to hear him. "More fire, more fire!" he yells. "Rapid rate on the enemy support weapons!"

He then watches closely, waiting for Chopper's next barrage.

Quyen slides around behind Dawid to get a better line of sight to her intended targets. She then fires off two more bursts at the dismounted infantry with her station's RPK-74. The mortar fires off at the same time, and she counts down the rounds remaining until she'll have to load the HEDP she placed next to the vasilek.

Shooting Through

Mariusz notices, with some degree of satisfaction, the IPAT automatic grenadier scramble for cover. He takes careful aim through his scope at the grenade launcher and squeezes off a round in an attempt to disable it, removing it from the fight for good. Nothing- the weapon doesn't so much as budge. Before he can take another crack at it, the IPAT Humvee disappears in a brilliant, white explosion, as Dawid finds his mark with his fourth 82mm white phosphorous round. Within a few seconds, the Humvee is transformed into a roman candle as its machinegun and 40mm ammunition starts to cook off in syncopated blasts.

On the companionway forward, Griet awaits a target of opportunity, her entire right side aching so badly that she scarcely notices the recoil of the PKM anymore. An IPAT infantryman on the bank ahead- nearly in line with direction in which Griet is facing- obliges her by raising his head and shoulders to fire. Griet squeezes off a single round and watches as the man's head explodes in a spray of red.

On the western shore, Chopper removes his fingers from the Mk-19's triggers, fearful that the next volley could hit the Krolowa, which is now nearly crossing his line of fire. From a distance, the tug resembles something from European Iron Age legend. She moves like an ancient but proud metal swan, slowly but resolutely past the fire-torn, smoke-enshrouded far shore.

Jason, Bones, and Tuck all add to the din, sending dozens of machinegun rounds downrange. None of them appear to register hits, but their heavy fire is not without effect. Incoming enemy fire has slackened to a trickle, its accuracy is almost non-existent, and the Krolowa is now clearing the northern end of the impromptu IPAT shore positions.

Clarence arrives at the starboard Dushka, crouching behind the gunshield and swinging the long barrel down and around to bear on the low eastern bank. The shoreline is smothered in white smoke, making target acquisition impractical. He continues scanning the shore from left to right, looking for muzzle flashes or other potential targets. Snow, meanwhile, arrives at his destination unscathed but, it soon seems, too late to contibute much more to the fight.

Anneka remains on the quarterdeck, completely unaware that Ritter is bleeding to death on the barge only a few dozen meters away.*

The devastation on shore has a shattering effect on enemy morale. All of the remaining IPAT troops are either fleeing or cowering in place, refusing to risk exposing themselves to the Krolowa's counterfire.

Actions?

OOC: Chopper, Tuck, and Snow were all NPCed for this round.

*Any PC on the tug with a clear line of sight forward will be able to see that Ritter is most likely dead, especially if they witnessed the three 40mm hits on the Zu-23-2.

The spectacular display of firepower is lost on Jason, his intentions, his focus totally on firing on the enemy before him. As he loses sight of one target, he selects another, firing madly at the shore and those foolish enough to take a position against the fleeing tug.

The immediate danger seeming to have died down, Bayer leans out of the window again and yells out, "Sergeant Tucker! Ammo / casualty report!" Even if Tuck couldn't hear him, he expected those that could would pass on the message.

*Ammo status for just the mortar is ok.

Taking a moment he radios Switek, "Buddha, Sunray. Tug has bypassed the enemy position. Recommend you withdraw now, over."

Stepping out of the bridge, Bayer does a quick inspection of the status of the team from the upper deck. "Keep watch... keep watch." Additional outposts and positions could certainly be a possibility.

Re: Shooting Through

As the tug was pulling out of range of the IPAT troops on shore, Anneka altered her actions to match.
"Forget the L86, Snowy. Take over the port DShK for now please."

Although the automatic rifle was a reasonable weapon in comparison to the pistol she carried, it was a little too heavy for her to lug about in her current state.
Moving forward just far enough to yell to the bridge, she reported between more and more infrequent bursts of machinegun fire.
"All clear aft!"

The lack of casualties as well as the apparently low ammunition use suprised her. She'd always thought heavy combat like they'd expected would result in most of them wounded or dead as well as a much greater expenditure of ammo. From where she stood, it seemed they'd gotten away with barely a scratch!

The wounded was her primary role after all and as Stoner, the only other qualified medic aboard, was currently engaged providing for their security...
Rushing down to the main deck, she called up her "all clear" as she passed by the bridge, moving as fast as she could. Noting that both Dawid and Minh were still unharmed, she continued forward to the only other person it could be.

Bow to Barge

Thanks be to God...

The fight was winding down but not over. As far as he knew, the BTR-60 was still in the game. However, there was nothing to see in the thick white smoke wreathing the shoreline and they would soon pass too far forward to train the Vasilek on it.

"Minh, take over here. Reload with anti-armour."

"I will see what I can do for poor Ritter."

Dawid jumped off the low gun mount, grabbed his rifle and jumped over onto the barge. Once near Ritter's body, he checked him for vital signs and tried to determine if it was too late.

Lowering the RPK-74 to the deck onto its bipod, Quyen moves back around Dawid to the clip of waiting 82mm HEDP. Pickup up the heavy set of mortar rounds she loads the vasilek. "Ready." she reports. Taking a quick scan of the shoreline to confirm she wasn't about to get shot, she runs forward to the ZU position.

Before she got to the large gun she could see the Pole slumped over. The fortified position was her creation, yet it housed the only casualty of the engagement. As she approached the still body she felt a sense of responsibility. Had she been able to build it higher, or something... he might still be alive.

Jumping over the sandbagged wall she crouches down... well below the low wall's top. She examines the newcommer's body.

The Western Shore

Switek watches from the shore as the tug clears the IPAT position and continues to chug downriver at full speed.  He assesses the value of ripping off another grenade volley to cover the retreat, then reconsiders.

"Looks like they are clear," he suggests to Chopper.  "We should move."

He helps Chopper manhandle the Mk. 19 back onto the motorcycle, then climbs aboard.  He keys up the radio to advise the leadership of their impending departure.

Snowy snaps open the slider-feed and links in a new belt, removing the old one. "We can't just thread in a new belt and attach it to the old one 'cos these are non-disintegrating belts. Well, we can as they come in ten round sections, but it's just faster to pull the old one out and connect it later."
Snowy slaps the receiver shut and lifts away the half used belt, placing the new belt in the rest and securing it. He gives the charging handle a half crank and says "Good to go. Stay crouched down until the boss gives us the all clear, we could still get greased by snipers."

At this, Dawid noticed with surprise Minh coming over to help with Ritter instead of manning the Vasilek.

"Minh my friend, ah, why do you not take over here with Viktor and I man the Vasilek, instead?"

"Thank you!"

With that, he moved back to man the Vailek. His legs started to shake with adrenaline, and he felt strangely and irrationally exhilarated at simply being alive.

He squatted and looked down at his handcuffed friend. "Are you all right? Injured?"
