Warning! Psychological Nudity! (All about Traitorism)

Here is where we talk about your naughty bits.

By naughty bits, I'm referring, of course, to what makes you a traitor to Alpha Complex and your friend, the Computer.

This thread is to give you all the information you need to know about being a mutant, in a secret society, and a TRAITOR to your friend, the Computer.

But just so you won't think I'm a tease, here's some computer nudity for you:

This picture is censored by the Computer Censory Board of Alpha Complex as a corruption of public morals.  Look at it at your own risk!

MUTATIONS

MUTATIONS

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MUTATIONS (other than what's in your special thread):

The Computer says that some treasonous sabotage of its otherwise faultless cloning process has created certain clones with innate mutations.  These present an uncontrollable threat to The Computer's hard-won social order, so a mutation is treason punishable by execution.

Unknown to your fellow Troubleshooters (until they read this--NO METAGAMING!), you possess a mutant power.

REGISTERED MUTATIONS

Some mutants patriotically register their mutation with The Computer's Internal Security service group (but never Machine Empathy...that's a death wish).

A registered mutant isn't executed and can use the power whenever he likes without being accused of treason.  However, registered mutants must wear a yellow stripe on their uniform at all times.

Registered mutants face quite a lot of anti-mutant prejudice, get passed by for promotions, are the butt of jokes, and are an easy scapegoat if something goes wrong...and least likely to be believed.

They are second-class citizens.  The Computer assigns the registered mutant to the Team Leader for protection.  Fellow citizens can't just shoot a registered mutant without the Leader's permission, or they risk getting recycled for destroying The Computer's "equipment."  They must "prove" the registered mutant did something treasonous.

HOW THEY WORK:

You tell the GM in a private line that you want to use a power (because you're not suicidal enough to make it public!).  You must tell the GM what you HOPE will occur.

The GM will roll against your Power attribute rating and you will either succeed or have a backfire.  The actual effect will be determined by the margin of failure or success.  (As a reminder, YOU DO NOT KNOW your attribute scores, including your Power attribute score.)

MUTATIONS ARE TREASONOUS!!

Remember, mutants are subject to summary execution, either by The Computer or by fellow Troubleshooters.  Using mutations in public is a death wish.

LENGTH/DURATION

No one knows.  They are unpredictable.  They may last 5 seconds or 5 minutes.

RANGE

Unless specified otherwise, the range is line of sight up to five meters.  Power and reliability decrease with distance.

AREA/VOLUME

Usually, it is a five meter circle or sphere...except when it isn't.

ORIGIN OF MUTATIONS:

No one really knows.  It's a big mystery.  There is a legend about an ancient global nuclear and biochemical war, and from the ashes of that war, The Computer rose to save humanity from itself.

Then again, others blame overindulgence in something called McDonald's.

TIPS FOR STAGING MUTANT POWERS

- Make your mutant power use descriptions colorful and imaginative.  Give lots of sensory detail--neat visuals, weird sounds, creepy sensations, fetid stenches, whatever you control about it (but remember that the GM controls the "effect").

- A failed Power roll seldom means "nothing happens."  SOMETHING happens, okay?  Something happens HARD!  Failure just means the mutant can't control it.

- The backfire of a failed Power roll will usually have an effect related to how far off you missed the roll.
