"Aelynia!  Move behind me, quickly," Joseph called out, and moved to swap weapons to his bow at Lysande's command.

Re: Anauroch: The Black Scorpions

ROUND 1
The foul smelling beast charges right over Rend, knocking him down, though the dwarf gets in a heavy blow with his greataxe.

Lysande shouts a warning and manages to pierce the thick scaly hide with an arrow, but the desert giant hardly notices.  Glim shoots as well, but his arrow flies wide, so he drops his bow and draws his magical greatsword.

The great lizard continues its charge toward the horses, but Joseph stands between the beast and its meal. The great jaws, filled with dozens of sharp teeth dripping with ichor, open and snap down on the ranger with crushing force (OOC: Joseph take 17 damage, make a Fort Save)

The smell of rotten meat begins to drive the camels wild, but Ha'laam works to keep them from bolting or injuring themselves.  He grips his scimitar tight, ready to defend his charges with his life.

Meanwhile, the Zhentarim retreat a distance away, looking like they are ready to mount their camels and run if the lizard gains the upper hand.

Joseph, you may fire your bow before the lizard gets to you, and Aelynia may make an Attack of Opportunity.  I will revise the combat post when I get your results.  Otherwise, everyone you may post Round 2 actions (please make a note of the Round in your post, please). If you wanted to do something based on information I did not/forgot to give you for round 1, we can fix that too.

And sorry Rend, even a dwarf had little chance to resist that overrun.

Re: Anauroch: The Black Scorpions

Tuar thinks on Lysande's advice, to use ranged weapons if possible.  His mind goes back to the bow on his back the bow he had hardly ever had the chance to use.  With a shrug of his head, deciding that attacking his beast with his  father's sword would be the best method to prevent it from attacking Lysande, he charges forward and strikes down on the beast.

As the teeth bit into him, Joseph could feel not only the sharp teeth tearing into his flesh, but also something else...  Poison!  She was right... he thought, as his bow dropped from his hands and down to the sand.

"Darn!" Lysande thinks as she sees Joseph bitten and Rend overrun. Biting her lip the sun elf aims and shots once again at the huge beast. Her eyes wandered towards the mounts, worried they could bolt and leave them alone, she shouldn't have done that, as it made her second arrow sailed wide.

Re: Anauroch: The Black Scorpions

Rend kips up from his fall, face so red it is nearly black, he means to say something along the lines of 'Right then, time to have a couple of whacks in ye rear ye naughty thing!', however by the time this makes it to his foaming mouth full of bloody teeth it has been translated into 'BLAAARGHGAAGAGH!'.  With this primal roar he charges the beast and delivers a mighty blow to it's back end.

[Move Action: Get up.  Free Action: Rage.  Standard Action: Charge the Lizard and full strength Power Attack on it.  Hit roll was 17 with the charge bonus, not sure if I was flanking it or not.  25 Damage.  That should get it's attention.  AC is now 11 due to Rage & Charge penalties.]

As the lizard runs by her, Aelynia smacks it hard and then proceeds to swing at it again but the shock of seeing Joseph being bitten after Lysande's warning of poison causes her to miss terribly.

Re: Round 2

ROUND 2
Even the dim mind of the great lizard registers the massive damage it takes from behind.  That, and a flaming arrow to the head cause it make one more swipe with a claw at Joseph (OOC: Joseph  take 8 dmg) before spinning around with surprising quickness to try and crush the pointy things causing so much pain from behind. Stinking dark blood spews from the large rents created by Rend and Tuar while the lizard bites and claws at its attackers (OOC: Rend take 20 bite damage and make a Fort save, Tuar take 11 claw damage).

OOC:  The map is essentially the same, except the Lizard now faces Rend and Tuar - Glim missed with his Greatsword attack. You may post for Round 3

Re: Round 2

Tuar shrugs off the claw damage as a minor injury and lifts his sword once more in preparation to kill, or at least hurt, the lizard before him.  The half-elf looks for a critical area to hit as he tries to aim for the lizard's neck.

With renewed effort Aelynia attempts to hit the creature as many times as she can, sacrificing a bit of accuracy as she hopes to bring the lizard down quickly to protect those with her.

Joseph swung his blade twice, though only using one side now - with his strength being sapped away by the poison, he was carrying far too much gear to reliably fight with both sides any longer.

Re: Round 2

Although some of the party manage to deal more damage, it is Tuar's slashing strike with his greatsword that nearly severs the beast's head.  It keels over heavily, reeking of carrion, its dark blood staining the pebbled sands beneath.

The camels and horses remain barely under control.  As Ha'laam suggests finding another campsite, you notice the vultures already beginning to gather overhead.

Re: Round 2

Tuar prepares another strike against the creature, ready to kill the lizard should it move once again, and stands ready for several moments before he is sure that the lizard is dead.  With a faint sigh, the half-elf takes the sword and wipes off the blood on his pants, making sure the blade shines once again in the sun before he carefully places it back at his belt.

Re: Round 2

"The fangs were poisonous.  I'm feeling weaker and weaker by the second," Joseph mumbled, before dropping to the ground, breathing heavily.  He removed a wand from his belt, and fired it off against him three times in rapid succesion, his normal wounds closing by themselves.  He was still sweating heavily, though, as his body tried fighting the poison.
