Silver Marches OOC Forum

This forum is where you can chat, bring up OOC comments, goof off, and so on.

One thing we do in adventures I DM in introduce ourselves as people, not characters.

So I'll start off.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Mike (big surprise there, right?), and I am 38.  I've been playing and DMing D&D and other games since 1983.  I no longer game at the tabletop much, since most of my old playing frieds have moved away and I don't really have the time to gather a new face-to-face group.

I enjoy gaming (duh), comics, The Simpsons, and writing.  I teach at a community college and write and edit for a living.

I have a wife and 10 year old daughter, both of who are also fans of fantasy.

I have a dog that is driving me nuts and a cat that is mellow.  (Thank god...)

I'm looking forward to gaming with you all!

Next?

Re: Silver Marches OOC Forum

My name is Eric, 30. I am an engineer in public works in France. That is the reason why you have not seen me much yet as I was following some formation about airports.

I've practiced RPG for fifteen years and tried nearly all the existing games. But DD still stays a favourite. I still practice face-to-face game every week and also LARP games (medieval and vampire).

Re: Silver Marches OOC Forum

Hey all! My name's Filipe , I'm 21 and live in Portugal.

I may be the newbie around here, since I just play D&D for about a year, but have all the theory in my mind, I just lack the experience =) I've been a fan of fantasy since I am able to read, so it's a long time now.
I study Computer's Science at the Oporto University and like to do the usual stuff; gaming (PC and Tabletop), web-surfing, reading (comics and "real books") and cinema, which is my real passion =)

I hope I can match your standards and to not disapoint you...

Re: Silver Marches OOC Forum

Hi all.  I go by Dr Obvious, but I don't give out my real name.  I've been burnt doing that once, and now I'm paranoid.  Sorry.

I live in Western Pennsylvania, USA.  I just graduated in the spring with a degree in Software Engineering from a small school you never heard of, and am going to Case Western Reserve for grad school starting in the spring semester.

I started RPGing when I was 12, and I'm 23 now, so I'm just about at the decade point.  I started out power gaming with AD&D 2nd, got out of it for a while, got back in by playin a very un-vampire Vampire game (<sarcasm>not a single player had makeup on!</sarcasm>).  Since then, I've run Mage game that lasted a year, and really gotten into Mutants and Masterminds.

Almost all my characters on RPOL are named Andy or Andi, so if you run into one, it may be me.  I post as Dr Obvious on the Atomic Think Tank (official Mutants and Masterminds boards), and posted as the same on the WW Mage forum for a couple of years, until the mods started banning everyone with a wit of intelegence.

Re: Silver Marches OOC Forum

Isn't Dr. Obvious the name of a Spider-Man villain?

If by Western PA (I live on the other side of the Keystone state) you mean near Pittsburgh, you've got a TON of gamers out there.  Must be something in the water.

I played in a fun Mage game with my last face-to-face group.  It was a blast, but time just got away from us and it sort of fizzled.

Good to have you all here!

Have you ever seen a beaver fall?  Not a pretty sight.  (sorry)

Yes, I've heard of it.  There used to be a group that was in very tight with the RPGA out there called "The Circle of Swords".  I assume they are still around.  I can give you the name of the guy who used to run that group (he also used to be the PA/Ohio regional coordinator for the RPGA, too) if you'd like it.  PM me if so.

Could you open the char sheets so we can import the sheets from the other forum? It will be much easier for the game.

FROM DM: Working on it.  It's coming up on my "RPoL List of Things to Do."  I will try for this weekend.

That would be nice if we could have character sheets over here.  Let's see, I'm 29 and living in Oklahoma.  I work as an accountant for the state.  I'd roleplayed some when I was in high school and college, but didn't really get back into it until about a year ago.  I've been playing online since then and discovered RPOL about 6-7 months ago, and I'm now playing in quite a few games here.

Well now since we're giving out ages I don't feel bad since I'm by far not the oldest at 31 I live in the Show Me state or Missouri for those of you outside the US been playing D&D for better part of 15 years not much in the way of face to face in the past twelve. Used to travel all over the world to work on equipment but now I don't do it as much as I run my own business. Which is why I'm sometimes sporatic on posts. Speaking of which I'm headed to Mexico next week and won't know if I can access the web when I get there.

Sorry this did not come up.

I will announce this over in the adventure thread.

Spellcasters should list their spells in the game thread to me.  They can do this in a private line or make it public if they like.

Thanks for asking!

Due to some asstoundingly crappy real life events, I haven't been on much, and can't promise much for a while.  Something due to moving to another city, a crappy mechanic, starting a new school, and not having a kitchen.

Don't try and figure that one out.  You wont.

Needless to say, do what needs done without me, but I will return.

I hope to have reliable net access starting next week, but it could be as late as week after some time.  I'll let you all know when I'm back online.  Please take any steps to keep the game going.

A little question...

This is a question for DM Mike, but if anyone else knows it, feel free to answer =)

I have a Dwarf Monk, as you may have already noticed =) The monks use not only their hands as weapons, but also their elbows, knees and feet. Ok, they use anything, from head to toe, right? =) The question is, when using Blade Boots, the damage dealt can be the Unarmed damage and the Boots damage?

Re: A little question...

What sourcebooks do the boot blades appear in?  I can't find them.

Since a spiked gauntlet deals only its own damage and not any from the punch attack, I'd say off-hand the blade boots do only their damage and none from the kick attack.  In both cases you'd add your bonuses for high Strength.  But the bladed gauntlet counts as an armed attack, so I wonder if kicks with the blades boots does not as well.

Hmmm....

Re: A little question...

I'm fairly certain that by using blade boots monks can use their unarmed attack bonus and do blade boot damage instead of their normal unarmed monk damage.  They act pretty much like equipping those monk weapons such as kama, nunchaku, or siangham.

They're from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book.

Re: A little question...

Yep, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book page 97.  Thanks! (Players DO get brownie XPs for helping DMs like that, you know!)

According to the book, a monk can strike with his unarmed attack, including the more favorable number of attacks per round, for normal blade boot damage, so there is no damage for the kick per se, just for the boot.  Damage is listed as 1d4 with a crit. range of 19-20/X2.  You still get strength bonuses, though.

The attack rules get a little funky, so please Mondar, check out the listing on page 97 if you own the book.

Yes, I own it. I saw that, but since the rules there are so sparse, I thought it could exist a general rule somewhere else...

Re: A little question...

The rules are pretty specific in stating that the boots do the listed damage.  Seems pretty plain to me.  You're either hitting with the flat of your foot ala a kung-fu move or you're poking with the blade on the tip of your boot.  Kick damage in the first case, blade damage in the second.  One or the other.

Monks.  Sheesh!  They give up armor and now they want the world!

Follow the next table:

Levels      XP Needed
  1             0
  2           1000
  3           3000
  4           6000
 ...          ....

The formula to get your XP needed for levelling is, (XP for actual Level) + (1000 x actual level) . Hope it helped.

Wow, it's amazing to see that in a month we didn't use the OOC board...we OOC too much IC, I tell you! =P

Hello all -

RL has bit me in the posterior section. My job is on the rocks right now and I need to focus all my efforts on salvaging it if at all possible.

I am withdrawing from all my games so that I canb put the proper focus where it needs to be.

I apologize for any inconvenience and wish you all the best.

So, it seems that we are down to Cala, Mondar and Allaia as active players in this game, eh?  We know Bentley left and it's been an awfully long time since we heard from Andi or Caspian.  What's going on, and do we need new blood?

Re: Status of Party

I don't remember Andi saying he was leaving.  He did say he'd be mostly unavailable for about a week and a half.  Of course, that was a month ago, and Caspian hasn't logged in much more recently than that.  I think we could probably use a little new blood, just because Cala's likely to be really hungry when she first changes into a wererat, and a scrawny elf and some tough dwarf meat may not be quite enough for her. ;)

Seriously, though, we probably could use another player or two.  I think we probably could manage ok with just three, because between the us, we seem to have most of the bases covered, except for a heavily armored 'tank' sort, but we never had that even when there were more players.  I just tend to think D&D parties work best in the 4-6 range, but I guess ultimately, it's up to the DM.

Re: Status of Party

I agree that we need more players. It's getting awefully low on players. But it's hard to incorporate new players into the adventure at this point. The possibility of meeting another adventurer right there is slim, so I guess that the nearest town or city would be the best solution in finding exactly what this party needs.

Re: Status of Party

Hi all,

Caspian never posted all that much and I was on the verge of asking him to leave several times when all of sudden he popped in and posted.

It seems that when Tmar picked up as DM (and I think he's doing a super job!), Caspian posted more, but now it looks like he's gone.

Anyway, while I like regions to run with 5-7 PCs (so we can "spread the wealth" here in RoA, as it were), I will let you all decide the path to take.

You could certainly leave the dungeon (Mikos will keep an eye on it until you get back) and go to a local town for new PCs, or you three or four can finish the adventure yourselves.

I'll pop in from time to time to see what's been decided.

Rock on, everyone!

Hi guys!

I've got one player (a sorceress) waiting to join and I've asked DM Mike to post an add for more. I think we need a couple more to have the party at it's best. I think that the party needs a swordsarm and a cleric. Any thoughts on that?

Six works very well for me.  We definitely could use another fighter and a cleric, and another arcane caster is cool too, especially if the character is less enchantment oriented than Allaia.

In case anybody doesn't know, Allaia is a Druid/Wizard.  I'm close to gaining a level and will probably put it into Druid, though I'm not sure.

Tanks:
A human paladin, dwarfen fighter, half-orc barbarian/sorcerer
Magic:
Elf cleric, elf druid/enchanter, gnome sorcerer
Everything else:
Cala...halfling rogue.

Seven players, but I think the adventure can handle it.

But what I need you to do is:

Find the favorite item in your equipment list and post it here.

Please be honest. The waterskin is not a likely choice, but an axe is.

Great...well, i'm sorry you're so busy at work, DM Tmar, but it will give me a few days to try and update Ronny....never did get to that. Plus I need to figure out whats going on. Having so little time myself I'm ofgten plaing cath up on Rpol. Hope you get some time for a break though, I know it sucks to be constantly working. (trust me...I know)

Re: Ready to Go

We just got sudden word from DM Tmar that he has to leave RoA due to real life issues.

Okay, all is not lost...

For the sake of whichever DM takes over this region, can one player post a quick synopsis of the adventure you are undertaking and how far along you have gotten?

Thanks!

Hang tight; we'll get the action rolling again soon.

Well, <ahem>, my PC had just defeated (with the aide of my noble compatriots, of course!) the orcish god Gruumsh and was just about to sit myself down upon his throne of power while Muggle Foambeard the Dwarf...

Ok, ok, <sigh>

Seriously, I'm new to the group so if anyone else wants to offer improvements/corrections then go ahead.  But basically we were ready to depart a city in search for a lycanthrope-infected halfling, when word came of a large, Orcish army being on the move through the countryside.

One perimeter of the army is passing close enough to the city that our brave group of companions decided to go out and try to inflict some damage on the stragglers.  Of course, that's when we found out that they had some ogres...right now where in the midst of melee' (literally) fighting for our lives!

Re: Ready to Go

I don't know if the earlier stuff we were doing is still in play or not (we seem to have been off on several tangents), but Cala and Allaia were investigating a dungeon looking for some artifacts that the Silver Marches wanted.  We found one, a staff of some sort, then rescued an innocent-looking halfling from some...orcs, I think?...anyway, he turned out to be a wererat and infected Cala, so we left the dungeon and went in search of this old crone with a basilisk pet we'd met earlier.

We met Ronnie at that point, and were sent to locate some herbs, so the crone could fashion a potion to buy Cala some time to kill Oliver (the wererat) and break her own curse.  We ended up helping some bird men look for some missing druids, but didn't find them, though we did find some interesting things in their huts.  Then we went back to the crone and she made the potion and we found out Oliver had been sighted in Everlund, so she gave us flying potions, and we all went there.

Once in Everlund, we met up with Colmar and Muggle and Urklakha and got presents and then set out in pursuit of Oliver.  Before we got very far, we discovered the orcish armies on the advance, and hightailed it back to Everlund.  Then we headed back out again, intending to fight a guerrila campaign to slow the army's advance down until daylight, when I think the Everlund forces were planning to sortie from the walls.  Hopefully I remembered that all sort of correctly.

And if we ever get the chance and someone mentions it to him, Colmar really, really wants to go back to those ruins and pick up all that masterwork equipment. It's not that he's greedy, it's just that... Well, it's because he's greedy:)

Yes, welcome, Littlewing.  It's really good of you to step right in. :)  I think that the initial contact was with a mage who at least claimed to be representing the League of the Silver Marches, though we did meet up with a Harper contact later, right outside the dungeon.  The initial meeting was probably in the Taverns game, which I think is all gone now, but I don't suppose it really matters that much anyway.

No, the great thing about the RoA threads is that its very difficult for a game to die if the players don't want it to---if worse comes to worse a "replacement" or "substitute" DM can be found. :-)

Colmar is a young gnome from the great dales. He recently inherited a shop from his human boss and sold it to buy a wagon and supplies to become a travelling merchant. In addition, he is a moderatly powereful sorceror, with a focus on evocation (useful for stopping bandits). He has adopted/hired a pair of half-orc brothers who act as caravan guards and laborers.

Re: DM Littlewing

I thought you guys might enjoy this so here you go:

Some have heard that Deszeldaryndun has participated in the adventures of those he has befriended. He prefers to do such things entirely in disguise, so those he helps are often unaware of his draconic nature. He does not hesitate, however, to reveal his true powers if such a tactic can help one of his chosen companions in need. He's also a shrewd judge of character. (Silverwing is very rarely duped or taken unawares.)

Silverwing is a sleek, graceful silver wyrm who seems to enjoy a slow-paced, simple life in the wilds, spiced with frequent human contact that he initiates or for which he sets his own terms. (Those he wishes to avoid simply cannot find him if they come looking.) The Guardian Wyrm spends much of his time in human shape in the forests west of Everlund, posing as a woodcutter going by such names as Ergoth Falaer or Drouth Sammart. His ring of sustenance, and the fungus caverns and stocked fish pools he has established, provide him with ample food. When he takes wing to hunt, it is to deal with beasts he wants removed from his chosen domain, not to meet the demands of hunger.

Though only veteran rangers active in the area may suspect that certain humans they meet with are in reality Deszeldaryndun, the Guardian Wyrm is famous in tavern-tales for tricking Zhentarim agents, members of the Arcane Brotherhood, Red Wizards, and other foes of law-abiding civilization in the North. He usually confounds such foes by approximating the shapes and mannerisms of powerful and influential persons (such as Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun and Elminster of Shadowdale) with uncanny precision.

Silverwing often impersonates Alustriel to allow her to slip away on covert (usually Harper or Chosen) business unnoticed, enhancing her reputation by allowing her to appear to be in two places at once or to respond to foes or crises with apparently blinding speed. On many occasions, he has deliberately taken her place in dangerous situations (including several antimagic field-laden ambushes intended to slay the High Lady of Silverymoon). Alustriel has kept such aid secret from all but her sons and certain fellow Chosen. Not even most senior Harpers know of it. The dragon renders such aid purely as a friend; although he approves of Alustriel's efforts to found a realm of relative safety and sophistication in the Moonlands of Luruar, Silverwing refuses to take any open part in the affairs of Alustriel's court, and he does not recognize that it has any authority over him (or his own Dragon Queen).

In return, Alustriel renders aid to both Silverwing and Valamaradace whenever they ask. The Lady of Silverymoon has prevented several dragon battles by appearing, ready to do battle, to surprise red dragons that have arrived to challenge Silverwing to combat. On one occasion, she posed as Silverwing's human slave in a ruse that allowed him to fool a dragon foe.

Re: DM Littlewing

Calathra Aumble (Cala to her friends) is a halfling rogue from here and there.  She was abandoned as an infant and raised by the human couple that found her.  Her parents wandered quite a bit, all over the Western Heartlands, to Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate, so she's pretty well travelled.  Growing up, she thrived on the probably massively exaggerated stories of her adventuring uncle, Nikklos, and wanted to have adventures just like that when she grew up.  As she's gotten older, she's immersed herself in hin culture, trying to find out what she missed out on during her good, but decidedly non-hin, upbringing.  She's befriended a St. Bernard-ish dog, tan with black feet, which has led Cala to call him Blackie.  She's inquisitive, curious, occasionally verging on reckless, and somehting of a chatterbox, but she does care about her friends, and the pursuit of good, though she likes it better if she can get an entertaining tale out of that pursuit.

Re: Getting to know you......

DESCRIPTION
Age: 15
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Height: 6'0
Weight: 225 (musclar)

Although he has pointed ears, Urklakha looks quite attractive for a human.
He is a "square block of a man," athletic, muscular, and fit. All that
keeps him from being "stunning" is the grayish tint of his skin and
his thick, bone ridge along his eyebrows." His coarse, black hair is thinner on top than most humans and this (along with his size) makes Urklakha appear about 10-15 years older to most people than he actually is. Only around his eyes does he look his age of 15; yet, there is little--if any--innocence there, only youth. The half-Orc has a heavily stilted accent and so, even though he is not dumb, his lack of mastery with the Common Tongue and Damaran often make people think he isn't very smart.

Urklakha's facial hair grows fast, so, although he tries to keep it shaven (usually scarring himself up in the process), it is not uncommon to see small, thin, patches of his coarse black stubble on his checks and under his chin.
Urklakha also has two large incisors (bottom row) but they don't show through
when his mouth is closed and are very hard to observe unless directly looking
for them. (Urklakha has learned to hold his mouth in a way that only a smile
or a shout reveals them. Because of this, he rarely smiles unless he is
around people he fully trusts.) Occasionally, a fold in his shirt seems to
move on its own (almost like a 'wiggle' or 'squirm') but almost never in the
same area (sometimes a sleeve, his belly, near the neck).

PERSONALITY
In recent years Urklakha has learned it is best to not be noticed. But being
alone is even worse. So, he risks involvement but often only on the fringe
of group.
He speaks when spoken to but rarely starts conversation or says more than a
simple answer. Urklakha rarely smiles. To many he would appear as "sullen"
or "angry." He also goes to great measure to avoid taking his shirt off in public view.
And, although it is uncommon, he occassionally has ferocious outbursts of violencewhich are almost always followed by Urklakha being even quieter and more
withdrawn than before the outbreak. (The mood afterwards borders on intense
 shame.)

His only "true friend" is his familiar 'Skarburz', a small snake (viper)
which "roams freely" about the half-orc's upper body. 'Skarburz' rarely, if ever, peeks-out from Urklakha's clothes so few people even know the snake is there. Because of this it often appears to others that Urklakha is talking to himself.

Re: ..

Sorry its taken me so long to respond to this DM Darkchylde. If you communicate with DM littlewing at all she can tell you that my job keeps me incredibly busy and distracted. But anyway..

Hieronymus Pryme is really Timonus Mynor, a farmer turned paladin in his mid teenaged years. After his vilage was destroyed by a bandit-king named Tiras he was taken in by a high cleric of Helm named Dunlith. DM Tmar started a bit about how (as Mynor) he killed a man in a raid that he was forced to take part in. It was unexpected, but I think it added a bit of depth to the character. Thus, when Dunlith had rasied and trained Mynor, he forsake his name and took the one of Hieronymus "Ronny" Pryme and is devoted to Helm. Ronny can't stand injustice and will be particularly upset with bullies that prey on children or women. He carries a whip as well as his longsword to punish those that mistreat women. his second pet peeve is the destruction of anything beautiful or artful. Ronny knows that in was many things are lost, but willful destruction of artwork will make him almost insane with anger. His secret wish is that when his days as an active Paladin of Helm are done, to open a museum of some sort and let others enjoy artwork, sculptures and tapestries. He's a closet artist, and a bit embarrassed about it.

Right now he is very impressed with Cala, for she has shown a lot of bravery despite the curse hanging over her head. He also has quiet respect for Allaia and considers her to be the defacto leader, Ronny is becoming intrigued with Urklakha because he thinks the warrior shows great promise...he's not sure if he should start preaching about Helm to him though....

Hello all, I would like to take this time to get some feed back from you. Basically I want to know what you think about the adventure since I've taken over.
- What do you think about the way I DM?
- What would like me to change/do differently?
- Do you think the story is progressing normally, as in; if you had your orginal DM, do you think the story might have progressed this way or have I gone off on a tangent?

Please be a critical as you can be. I dont mind criticism, in fact I welcome it. This is your game and you dont need the new guy coming in and screwing everthing up... even if he is the DM ;)

Re: ..

I think you've been doing an admirable job.  It can't be that easy to take over an existing game like this, particularly one that's been in a few directions already, like this one has.  I'm not sure exactly sure what Tmar had in mind with the orcish armies, so I'm not sure how that might have been different, but given how well we were doing, I think probably something would have needed to intervene or we'd have been progressing to rolling up new characters. ;)

I'm pleased that we seem to be moving toward a conclusion with the Oliver thing, at least hopefully.  I've enjoyed it, but it's been kind of Calla-centric, and I'm not sure how enjoyable it's been for those who didn't join us until Everlund, which at this point I think is most of the group.

I can't think of anything I've been really disatisfied with.  The timeline got a little confusing there for a little bit, but fortunately Allaia cleared that up for us, and otherwise I've been fine with the way things have been progressing.

I didnt get a chance to post it lat week but I had to go on the road on business. It was confirmed on Friday and I left saturday morning and got back late last night. I'm really sorry about that.

The bad news is I'll be gone again from 12-22 and dont know if I'll get a chance to access the net during that time.

I'll see what I can be done during that period but at least you know before hand this time

The new arrivals are just in time. I'm going on vacation tomorrow so I won't have much opportunity to post for a couple weeks.

If we do get into a fight Colmar will stay back and use his crossbow on the goblins. He'll use magic missile on the bugbear and any goblin that is proving particularly troublesome.

Re: New Arrival

Quick question, before things turn pear-shaped.  Arion's been in this camp for several days now, but what's the status of his prepared spells?  Is he completely tapped, left with a couple, what?  Take a look at his prepped list (on his character sheet) and let me know if I need to remove any of them.

I've played wizards minus all spells, and even one who lost his spellbooks.  As long as there's a rationale, and a chance to rectify either situation later, it's all good.

Re: New Arrival

Well its entirely possible that you still have some spells left especially those with Somatic or Verbal components, which is one of the reasons they keep you gagged and bound at all times, you know to discourage the use of magic.
In fact you have them all but you have never had the opportunity to cast them. If you had before, you would be dead. Keep that in mind when you role-play, casting = death :)

Guess I need to dig through the books, figger out which spells require me to have a component pouch.  Speakin' of which, do I need to keep track of which mundane components I have, or do we simply follow the rule that says "if you have your pouch, you have all the no-cost components for your spells"?

Yes thats right you only have to worry about components that have a cost attached to it. We will assume that you stock up your spell component pouch with whatever while you are on the trail so to speak. I'll post some rules about not having a component pouch in a bit.

Yes, Cala's the only lifer in the group. ;)  I don't think there's even any characters left anymore from the first wave of reinforcements we got.  And I think we're on our fourth DM now.  Plus I'd have to do some research to figure out what it was the group Cala was initially a part of was even sent out to do.  But hopefully we'll have some stability and continuity now.  Cala would like some people that could stick around long enough for her to learn their names. ;)

Yes, there are four characters at Level three and one character at level four, which should make the Party's encounter Level four, 4+3+3+3+3= 16.

That divided by 5 should be 3.2, which is 3 of course for our purposes.

Silifrey is an Aasimar, as evidenced by her faintly luminescant skin and overly perfect features (see description for details).  She keeps this fact to herself though, if your character does not have Knowledge: the Planes, you might simply wonder what her deal is or chock it up to the blessings of the goddess of beauty (which it is, really, but in a far less direct way).

Cool.

So myself and Silifrey are the martial characters, with a few casters and a rogue? I know I sure do ask a lot of questions. Heh. :P

And Arthas seems to be an NPC.

Edit: D'oh! I see in his new posts that he is.

Thank you Blackrin!  I can't help but cringe when I see "rouge" instead of "rogue."  On another note, Mourn is part cleric, part ranger.  He's definitely a ranged fighter, though, as he's not very hardy.

I'll go ahead and mention my upcoming brief absence. I'll be moving out of my apartment and into my new house at the end of the month. It should really only be a weekend thing, but I wanted to mention it just in case I have problems getting my computer service switched or anything. It should be right near the end of the month, so I don't have specific dates yet, but I'll let you know for sure when it is going to happen, Darkchylde. Even at the very worst I could use a public PC to post if need be. Heh.

Re: Hello everyone!

I chose Quicksilver becuase it was cheaper, I thought you would appreciate that and I took the time to post the full description of the item for those of you who do not have a copy of the Complete Adventurer. It does last only 3 Rounds but you have all shown me how much damage you can inflict in that amount of time, it should be enough.

Now I can only post when I am at work, and I am busy when I'm here. I do try to post as often as I can, but as you can see, that isn't very often but I thought that would be better that having you all wait for a DM to take up the region.

If this is causing a problem for you guys then I will happily turn the region over to someone else who can devote more time to this region.

Just let me know.

I wasn't complaining, I was just seeking clarification.  Cala was willing to throw down the money for Silversheen, just because she wants to make very sure Oliver is dead, but I'm sure quicksilver capsules will be fine, and it was nice of you to post the descriptions since not everyone has everything beyond the core rulebooks (and probably everyone doesn't have all of those).  I think you're doing a good job with keeping things interesting, and I don't mind the pace, since I'm a little busy right now myself.  I'm sorry if it seemed like we don't appreciate your efforts. :(

Re: Hello everyone!

Now, being new to the game, I'm not sure how/if you guys try to do any battle planning.

At the stage we're at now, Blackrin might mention the tactical advantage to fighting on horseback, with the drawback that we would certainly have no chance to approach unnoticed if we close with the farmhouse in that manner.

From the description I assume the fields are completely burnt, and even approaching on foot unnoticed is probably unlikely. If that is the case I see no reason not to charge across on horseback, covering the distance much more quickly and thereby probably suffering less possible ranged fire.

Thoughts?

You are correct, the fields are all gone giving one the impression that the house is situated in the middle of ash laden desert. I would also like to point out that as far as you can tell there is no one outside. This might mean that they are all inside... I also neglected to mention that there is a large rust-colored barn some 30 feet directly to the east of the house.

If you have any questions that might help you to properely envison the scene, please feel free to ask.

Now, it may just be me, but I still think it's a great idea to let Black ride ahead, basically charging in, to maybe buy some time for the rest of the group. The fact that Oliver has no idea who he is could work greatly in our favor. Then the rest of you could charge in, like a second wave, and we can smack him down!

Just my thoughts.

Re: Role Call

Hi all,

DM DarkChylde, who runs the Rashemen, Silver Marches, and Dragon Coast regions for us in RoA was suddenly stripped of internet use around the 24th of September.

We first got word from him this week about his situation, and he's very sorry he had no way to contact anyone here -- his players or his fellow DMs.

When he can get regular internet use, he'll be back DMing on RoA.

For now, we'll try to get DMs to fill in for his regions.

We'll keep you posted on his status as news comes to us.

Thanks!

===================================

Players are allowed to join into any regions currently accepting PCs with NO cost of Day Units, loss of XPs, items, etc.  Just take your PC sheet with you when you request to join another regions.

However, if you decide to sit things out a bit and wait for either DM DarkChylde to come back to the game or for us to find someone to take the region over until he can come back, you'll get 75 XPs per week of waiting.

So if you decide to stay here, you'll get 225 XPs for the three weeks you've already waited so far.

If you move on now, you don't get those XPs.

And if you move on in a week or so, you'll have them, plus another 75.

But we hope to have someone take over the region by then.

======================================================================

ROLLCALL! Who is still here?  Who plans to move on?

If a player does not reply by 10/19, it will be assumed they are no longer with this region.

Thanks again, all!

Re: Role Call

Hi guys and gals,

DM Dart will be taking over the region until DM DarkChyld can make it back.

He should be ready to play later this week (after Thursday, 10/20).

To help him out, please post a re-cap of the current adventure, plus plans on where the party was going, where the adventure seemed to be leading, etc.

Thanks!

(100 XPs to the best re-cap post, and 25 XPs to others who fill in the gaps, help DM Dart get a feel for things, etc.  DM Dart will award those once he starts play.)

Re: Role Call

The bare bones of things seem tobe as follows:

A large horde or montrous humanoids is rampaging across the Silver Marches (wow, colour me stunned).  IN consequence of which, several of us, myself included, were captured by the uncooh creatures, onl;y to be rescued by the other members of the party.  FOllowing that rescue, which also involved the slaughter of dozens of goblin minions, a contingent of Silverymoon's famous Knights in Silver showed up to congratulate us and salve our wounds.  They also informed us that travel into SIlvermoon has been restricted as a security precaution, and that we had best come with them, or we mgiht enver get in, perticularly as the forces of darkness (TM) are lible to be there in a matter of days, if not hours.  That, of course, was a problem, because there was a bit of unfinished business to take care of first (see below).  Having thus forged mighty bonds of friendship through our shared adversity... or posssibly just realizing that the metaplot would be shot all to hell if we said thanks very much and resolved to go our seperate ways... we have all banded together to accomplish two things.  The first thing is to help Calathra with a lycanthropy problem.  It is this mission, in which we all resolved to particiapte (and take our chances on being able to get into the city afterwards) which forces us to part company wiht the knights who saved us... or most of them anyway: Mister Blackrin is a Knight himself, and vollunteared to join us and assist our mission on behalf of the city military at the insistance of his commanding officer.  Apparently (I don't know the details of this, but there seems to ahve been a previous encounter in which the veteran members of the party participated) she was infected with Lycanthropy by a where-creature named Oliver, and must now slay him before the rising of the next full moon in order to avoid being afflicted.  Also, I have the impression he's rather an evil bastard who deserves to die for purely altruistic reasons.  We have tracked Oliver to the farm where he and some of hsi dire-rat minions are hold up.  We are, in point of fact, in the midst of combat with him.  The plan is to kill him, take his stuff (naturally), and return with all possible haste to the viscinity of SIlverymoon, and hope that we can either sneek in, or that one of us will have sufficient status and/or savvy to talk us past the guards and their "admit none" orders.

Re: Role Call

Oooh, that was really quite good. :)  I think Silifrey did a wonderful and entertaining job of summarizing, but maybe I can add a couple more things about Oliver, since Mourn's player and I are, I think the only ones left from those many months ago.  Oliver was a halfling wererat, who was being tortured by some goblinoids in a ruin that the then-party was searching for three artifacts.  The whole artifact thing seems to have been largely forgotten in the DM changeovers, and we've moved on to other plotlines, but the then-party freed Oliver after we'd killed the goblinoids, thinking he was just a normal halfling, and he the proceeded to wipe the floor with us and infect Cala with lycanthropy.  We then went through some mini-quests to try to find a cure for her, along with some other mini-quests that I didn't quite understand, and don't remember that well and don't really seem to be connected to the current plotline as it stands.  She did get some kind of potion made by this old witch who had a basilisk as a pet, that was supposed to keep her from changing for one moon cycle if she drunk it at the right time, to give her more time to kill Oliver and break the curse.  I'm getting a little weary of chasing Oliver all over the Marches and I think Cala's probably hogged the spotlight long enough, so I'd vote to wrap things up and move back to helping the Marches with its ever-present evil humanoid problem, or something less Cala-centric. ;)

Re: Role Call

Silifrey and Cala have most of the basics down. A couple of extra details. In addition to our oft changing cast we have been joined by Arthas, an elven cleric (NPC) sent our way by the dragon Silverwing, who saved our hides after our not-so-successful attempt to attack the horde and promised he'd find Oliver for us. Also Oliver stole a wand of Cure light wounds from Colmar, which he would dearly like to get back, along with healing Cala of course (us short ones have to stick together).

Well, I haven't been here that long, so I don't feel to bad about Calathra's story-line, but IC, Silifrey is undoubtedly racked wiht guilt and doubt: she is the doughter of one of Silverymoon's noble famillies, and it pains her to be doing something else while her homeland is in peril.

DM DarkChylde is back more or less as a player right now.  I don't think he has the time to DM right now.

SO...I can try to get this region going again, but it would have to be a re-boot, meaning we start with a new adventure.  That is, unless DM Dart will be taking over full-time.

If I take over, though, expect a re-boot.

I know that is artificial, but it's the best I could do.

We'd be getting new players/PCs in to join any that are still here.

Those PCs still here keep all magic items, XPs, etc.

The region re-boot would begin on Saturday and Sunday of this week.

Sound good?

Let me know who is still here to play, please.

So far we have:

Mondar Stonefist  (Monk - a returning PC and player)

Oswydd (Ranger/Fighter - a new PC and player)

and 2 other new players with new PCs coming in ASAP.

That leaves room for one more PC and player.

75 XPs to all players who:

Set up their bio lines like Oswyyd has and picks a portrait and puts a description of their character in the "character description" area (listing not only their appearance but also mannerisms, the sound of their voice, things the PC commonly says, etc.).

And to those PCs already here, please make sure you've done the above.  And for sticking it out, you can take the 75 XP award, too!

Don't forget about the RoA Christmas gift, wherein you get to rise a single stat score for one of your PCs in RoA by 1.  No stat can go above 18 from this bonus.  Let your DM know which PC you are giving the gift "1" to.

Re: May be away

Well, I'm back.

I caught some fish for the first time, but they were too small, so I put them back. I must be the only fisherman to apologise to the fish and try to calm them down, before removing the hook and gently returning it to the water. :)

I skimmed the adventure a bit, but didn't try to post. My sister is far too scary.

So now I'll catch up on things.

Re: May be away

It is fall in almost all of RoA right now.  Different regions are slightly ahead or behind other regions, but in Silver Marches, it is early Uktar (November), 1375.

This is also the time of year in the Waterdeep, Sword Coast South/Amn, Dalelands, and Savage Species regions.  Some other regions here in RoA are set in  Eleint (September)/Marpenoth (October) of 1375.

This is almost 3 years past the timeline and events mentioned in the Player's Guide to Faerun book.

That will depend on a great many factors (upon all of which, I could prevaricate at some length, and detail, and with some expertise), but I think it will be a very interesting few years of governemtn.  At any rate, we can expert the conservative minoroity to stand for at least 2 years, I think.  After that, enough things could have gone wrong or right for the coservatives that it's hard to predict where we'll be.

Re: May be away

Dm, question.

I was wondering if we could get a ledger/notes thread. A thread where players can jot down and compile useful bits of info that we have gained from the adventure threads. To make it faster to find passed info.

I know that each player has a scratch pad, but those can only be viewed by the individual, so not much help to the group as a whole.

In the game that I run here At RPOl we have a Ledger thread, were each PC gets to make one post, which they go back and update often when new info is gained. The players have stated that they really like having all the info easily at hand. I have found that it helps the Dm, as it becomes the player’s responsibility to track gained info, instead of the Dm having to repeat.

Just a suggestion.

BTW: really like the game. Being my first RoA game I wasn’t sure, but now I am working on my second PC ;)

Well all, I am afraid I must withdraw from this game.  DM Mike, you and the cast here are fun to play with but the post rate is too low for my liking.  I typically play in games where the post rate is multiple times per day, or one time per day for all players and GM at a minimum. Right now we post about once every two days on average with bursts of daily posts and some dry spells of three days or more.  It is hard for me to think about the story and enjoy the character without a more regular post rate.

I wish everyone here the best in this and all their worlds!

Goodbye Oswydd.

I could post more often (though probably shouldn't :) ), but don't want to be a screen hog, so I wait until everyone else has had a go.

I think it may be a simple matter of everyone slowing down to catch up.

Watch a group of people walking around together - the more people in the group, the slower they travel. Its not deliberate or even required, but it happens automatically. I think this may apply to online RPGs as well. :D

If it makes you feel any better, I think this game is going a bit slow too. But its still a very good game and worth the wait in my opinion. It could, perhaps, just be a spell. I have noticed in my time here at RPOL that sometimes the games seem to bog down, usually at an inappropriate time. But it is better to play in a slow game than to not play in one at all.

Re: Notes thread up

The typical pace of posts on RoA is 3 to 4 times a week.  That is what we expect of our DMs and players.  If players or DMs post more, that's cool.  If they have to post less, it is up to the DM on how to handle things.

So far as I know, I have been posting at at least that rate.

We need DMs badly right now.  Besides this region, I am DMing in Waterdeep, Sword Coast South, the Moonsea, and the One-Shot Adventures thread.  I am also running one other game on RPoL outside of RoA.

Besides work and family, I give as much time as I can to RPoL and RoA.

So I'm happy that I am pleasing those who are pleased and sorry that I'm not pleasing everyone.  But I know of nobody who can please everybody.

Re: 20,000 Posts Under the Game

Congratulations (I think). :)

Chatting away is fun for role-play and everything, but I guess that it probably slows down the storyline.

So I had an idea - a separate thread for IC chat and discussion. In the main story thread we do the adventure, just as we are doing now. In the IC thread, our characters can chat, tell tales, role-play crafting and training and research, play music, etc etc, all in character. All the non-story based stuff, really. Discussion here could be assumed to take place in quiet-time in the story (around the campfire, whilst riding and so on).

So, good idea or bad?

To be honest I don't specially like that idea.  I like the idea of talking to people in same thread I fihgt people in.  both are part fo teh story.  Phylsophy aside, seperating them has the potential to generate confusion regarding timeline.  If I come on and find posts in both threads, I don't really want to ahve to wonder whether i should be talking about my childhood, or slaughtering orcs with my longsword.

We used this sort of thing in another game, using HTML tables.

Re: Battle!

Well, just quote my post and you'll see all the HTML code for the table. Copy and paste, and edit as you like.

Each entry has a label such as 6F to mark its place. Edit the entry as required to place in a symbol or letter.

A purple A would mark in Alec, and a k1 could stand for a krenshar.

Everyone posts their position, like 6F, then says where they'd like to move to, say 10F, and thus they get moved.

Some familiarity with HTML would help, but it's not too hard to pick up the basics with this.

In the other game, one of the players was made keeper of the battlemap, updating it as required when anyone, player or NPC moved. I could do that, if you like. I've monkeyed around with HTML tables a bit, and I'm online far too much.

KOol map Alec. I dont know anything about HTNl, though.

So I use this type of map:

It is very easy to work with if you have Paint. I also use a PNG program for the PC and Monster Tiles.

But this type of map requires an image host.

DM if you would like I can send you the blank grid.

Re: Battle!

I think I get the initiative situation: all our initiative scores go into a group initiative score, and whichever side wins acts first, yes? It sounds like a nice way to handle initiative online.

I grabbed Improved Intiative for Alec however - is it still worth having? (Probably more so if it gives us all a chance to act first.)

========================

FROM DM

It sure is, since it can add to the total average modifier for your group.

In other words, say you have an adjusted init. of 7, someone else on your side has one of 4, two others have scores of 2, and one has a "0" for a score.

15 is the final initiative.  Divide it by the number of PCs to get "3" as the final average.

Without your "improved iniative" boosted score, the average would be dragged down a bit.

Hi

Hey all. Colmar, merchant and mage extrordinare, here. I was one of the characters involved with the Oliver story, but I had to drop out to focus on school. And then the game stopped right after I left, I guess it just wasn't the same without my gnomey goodness.

Anyway, Schools finally finished up and I have free time again (yay!) so I was wondering if I could get back into the game? I just skimmed over the last couple of posts but it sounds like you are looking for another player. Colmar's pretty good as a combat sorceror and he even has a wagon for everyone to ride around in.

So can I join? Pretty pretty please?

Re: Hi

So long you do not poorly or even good way imitate Britney Spears style, then I am good DM for PC bard performances :). I like rythmical basso's music and also Nightwish, Era and occassion Gregorian (bit about myself). Altough I had DM'ed only three four years I have following books as source wise;

Cores + MMII&MMIII, Complete series (not complete psionic yet but soon), Races series (including Races of the Dragon), Heroes of Horror&Battle, Spell Compendium, Expanded Psionics, Stronghold Builder's Guide, Sword&Fist, Epic Handbook, Libri Mortis and Weapons of Legacy.

These were only the core stuff and which can be implanted on everything (including Faerun). Now comes faerun sources; FRCS + Races of Faerun, Player's Guide to Faerun, Magic of Faerun, Lost Empires of Faerun, City of Splendors; Waterdeep, Lords of Darkness, Champions of Ruin, Champions of Valor, Monster Compendium; Faerun, City of Spider Queen, Underdark, Unapproachable East and Silver Marches.

I also have collection of Eberron books; Eberron Campaign Setting, Races of Eberron, Five Nations, Explorer's Guide, Magic of Eberron and Sharn; City of Towers.

So yes you can imagine what all nasty I can bring to encounter, and I do not even need monsters or combat or somecases traps make adventuring a risk business......

Re: Hi

I've tried 3 times to get into an Eberron game. One DM vanished, the other aborted when we complained about railroading, then started again, and seems to have vanished as well. Three characters, I've made.

Maybe we could have Warforged in FR? They could be mechanical men from Lantan. And Doppelgangers are not uncommon in FR, so there could be Changelings. And lycanthropes are a big deal, so there could Shifters as well. And Artificers would also be Lantanese. Well, a man can dream. :) I've tried (or tried to try) Eberron, but I just keep being drawn back to the Realms.

Anyway.

We seem to have collected a veritable zoo:
Alec
Colmar
Galain
Silifrey
Taman
Lucia
Thrusk
Crusk
Dog 1
Dog 2
Raven Familiar
and however many horses we currently have.

So what's the deal with Thrusk and Crusk?

Thrusk and crusk are level 1 half-orc warriors, bought as trained hirelings. They won't be playing much part in any combat unless my wagon is ambushed. Basically they are a reason I can leave a fully loaded wagon to go adventuring and not have it, or it's contents, stolen. Same goes for the two dogs.

Re: Away

According to the King, Raiden's at either -2 or -7 HP (depending on fire resistance), and bleeding out at 2 HP/round, unless he gets certain heal spell or a heal check in time.

I'm not too worried about this, Raiden was a bit of jerk (I liked him though), and sucked as a Rogue. And cursed too. If he dies, it's no problem. I'll move him to another game and wait for Alec to be raised.

I've put "Some Demon Prince" as Raiden's patron diety. There's an infinite number of layers of the Abyss, thus an infinite number of demon prince gods. So there's bound to be one to suit Raiden.

Anyway, he's being a jerk for jerk's sake, and doesn't get people being nice to him. Feel free to yell at him or try to convert him.

Personally, I think that with the lack of a map (and perhaps because of some of the descriptions), it's been really hard for us to know where precisely we are, what our options are, etc.  That has led to people basically just twiddling their thumbs on this game.

Just my two cents.

Big huge dungeons can get confusing without a map, I agree.  Still, its not a requirement.  I think the main impedement has been that so much time goes by betwean resolving each enconter, meenign that its difficult to keep a mental image of whats going on fresh in one's mind.

Re: Away

Aha, ok. I can give plain answer that the area where you are was not area what you passed trough before you encountered the crystal (despite you used exact same route altough reversed order go back where you came from). There was crossroads in the section where the elven statue is in clearing.

So, accesible areas now in the maze are; Crystal room whit stone table and chairs, clearing whit artistic dancing elven statue and clearing where is tall rose bush.

C = Crystal + table and 4 chairs
S = Dancing elven statue
RR = Rose bush (it's quite huge pillar, about 10'ft high)

Yep if you dont count climbing atop the bushes which all are around 10-12 feet tall. But above the bushes is small gap between bush top and roof so you could see rest of the maze and tower level that waybut not that well to figure out how to get out of the maze via land route.

The harp is my self-made item and it is eguilevant of 1,200gp item. It's effects are non-magical in nature, it is just sheer quality of the harp which makes the bard's skills better (so the suggestion bonus applies only if bard plays the harp while doing the suggestion examply, merely carrying it is not enough).

Anycase I list them again and give prices of the items (changed Scry spell CL because it is 4lvl spell and not 3lvl as I firstly recalled :P);

2x +2 ring of protection, Price 2x8,000gp
1x Headband of Intelect +4, Price 16,000gp
1x +2 elven chainmail (basically mithril +2 chainmail but it is elven design), Price 8,150gp
1x Elven Minstrel Harp (basically masterwork elven harp which gives +2 bonus to perform; String Insturments but if you have 5 ranks in that skill you get +3 instead. Also increases daily bardic music ability by +1 and increases save DC of  bardic suggestion by +1), Price 1,200gp
1x Gloves of Dexterity +2 (dark green elven gloves with golden vine details), Price 4,000gp
2x Vest of Resistance +2 (elven design, one dark blue+silver lines, other dark red+golden lines), 2x4,000gp
3x Scrolls; Scroll of Scrying (7lvl, price 700gp), Fly (5lvl, price 375gp), Scry location (9lvl, price 1,125gp)
2x Wands; Wand of Magic Missile (3lvl, 35 charges, price 1,575gp), Wand of Cure Disease (5lvl, 15 charges, price 1,350gp)
5x Potions; 3xCure Moderate Wounds, 2xInvisbillity, Price each potions cost 300gp

With the 5000 gp of gems, that comes to a grand total of 66474 gp by my calculator. There's 4 of us (you still here Taman?), so that comes to 16618.75 gp each. Ooh boy, that puts us well up over the wealth-by-level guidelines.

+2 ring of protection, Price 8,000gp
