Water and Desert Heat
All,
Rend asked for this, and it seemed like a good idea to post for everyone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Temperatures on average range up to severe heat (111 to 140) this time of year in middle Anaurouch (late Elient) in midday. The southern Sword can get into the extreme range (141 to 180).
Usually as long as travelling activity is restricted to early and late hours say 0600-1000 and 1600-2000 (which we have been doing, in general), and you wear desert robes and light armor or less, I have been allowing 1 gallon per day (horses require 2 gal per day). The Endurance feat can also help. Significant activity, wearing heavier armor or a heavy load, or not taking minimal heat protection precautions increases that to 2 or even 3 gallons per day.
I believe I have ruled as follows (though it may not be completely realistic) - native Bedine require half the normal human amount, and camels require half as much as horses (i.e 1 gallon per day). So, usually a minimum of 2 gallons per day will get camel and rider through a normal day.
You can purchase 5 or 10 gallon water casks (filled) designed to be carried by camel or packhorses at 4 gp and 8 gp respectively (though giving them heavy loads will increase their water requirement). Also you can get a 2 gallon waterskin for 4 gp. Other heat protection or desert gear may be available (i.e. parasol, sand tube, distillation kit, etc.)
Not meeting your water requirements may make you subject to CON checks, fatigue, and non-lethal damage. Once you are fatigued from dehydration, damage becomes lethal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Assume you have at least enough food and water for 3-5 days travel, assuming Aelynia Th'wil casts create water a couple times a day. Ha'laam's pack camel carries 4 5-gallon casks, plus his own camel carries 2 5-gallon casks.
Honestly, I don't wan't to bog things down in 'water-math', but I would like it to be somewhat of a survival issue. Overall, you should be ok unless something disrupts your water stores/supply. Feel free to dispute or ask questions.
