Equipment

In reference to the battle between the original eight and the captors of Kett and Michelle...

All helmets and armour were stripped from the prisoners and are included in the list. While helmets and gas masks are listed under the Geneva convention as allowable protective equipment (prison camps do get shelled occasionally) flack jackets and kevlar vests most certainly are not (can be used in an escape attempt to help protect from the guards bullets).
Besides this, no self preserving soldier would pass up the opportunity to improve the protective equipment they have. eg. replacing steel helmets with kevlar for example.

~My spear and magic HELMET!~

Nuked:
...Besides this, no self preserving soldier would pass up the opportunity to improve the protective equipment they have. eg. replacing steel helmets with kevlar for example...

Well, we had to wear our k-pots (helmets) all the damn time (outside the wire and sometimes on the FOB too) and personally I hate it.  Thank goodness we had the new ones so my poor noggin' wasn't being crushed by that useless sweatband in the older PASGT 'fritz'.  You would be surprised how much soldiers don't want to wear the helmets -- it was hard enforcing the constant wear of those damnable things, especially when I wanted to chuck it myself.  Oh the beauty of a boonie cap.  The attitude of many was, "if they get a head shot on me without it on, well congratulations to them, they got me."  Mostly we didn't want to put up with the bullshit of getting in trouble with our bosses for not wearing it.  I didn't want to be responsible for telling the family of one of my soldiers that he got his head blown off because I failed to enforce the standard.  Now, I'm seen times where it did save a life or limb -- RPG shrapnel nearly took off one guys ear (could've been his head but the helmet stopped it), a gunner was thrown from a blown up vehicle and landed on his head (concussion, not dead, probably b/c of the helmet), my own gunner had his helmet blown off of his head when we were hit and he escaped with only relatively minor injuries (to include two ruptured ear drums) -- so it works, but we still hate it.  The special forces guys run around with no helmets or at the least only those skater/climber helmets that probably won't stop a 9mm.  Anyway, just thought I would comment (however longwinded).

Re: Issued Equipment

The first list is items not allocated to individuals - it's available to be claimed if you think you need (or just plain want) it.
The second list is a conglomeration of everything individual characters are either charrying or have claimed as their own - it's everything found on the individual character sheets.
The numbers refer to how many of each item/unit there are. For example, there is a total of 11 full thirty round 5.45mmB 30rd magazines for the two AK-74 rifles carried by characters. Who has what is something for you to inquire amongst yourselves or has been described in various posts and character descriptions. I have supplied the second list simply so you all have some idea of the equipment that is available to you as a whole.
