Round 2
Rufus watches the thin mist as it roils around the ceiling.   His weapon drawn he nods tp Lucretia.  glad that Milo had managed to break Santanico's enchantment.  "Get the body into a shaft of sunlight!" he growls, before shuddering as the castle gives another groan and there is a distant sound of falling rock.   "Scrap that!  We need to get out of here as soon as possible!"  He moves to the window and starts to break more of the panes, tearing at the leaded lights to enlarge the gap that they came in through.

Blondung, believing Merrell's idea was the right one, unleashes his own Resilient Sphere, again trying to entrap the gaseous Santanico.  This time, she has less space to swirl away, and the spell forms around her, leaving her entrapped in a pearlescent sphere.

Yvandel prepares to move again, to keep Santanico guessing, when he sees her caught in Blondung's spell, "Excellent. Quick, cast spells to walk us out of here, and get the body into the sun. We might get away with this yet."

Looking over at Ceely, Yv adds, "Ceely, do you still have the slippers on? Fancy staying a little longer hanging outside, and seeing what happens to our vampire here when the Count is in the sunlight? I'll do it if you won't. I'm curious if the old tales are true"

A cheeky smile touches her face as she glances at the cloud of santanico, "Sounds like fun, can do."

Moving rapidly for the broken window, she stands next to it, ready to climb outside and watch those passing her by.

On a quieter tone, he adds
"I'll cast a spell to walk us down slowly."

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
Milo casts his spell of mass-wind walk, and the group quickly clamber out of the window, having a horrifying vertigo moment as they literally step into thin air, the cliff face dropping away below them some thousand feet or so to jagged rocks hidden in the shadows way below.

Behind them, Santanico coalesces into physical form again, inside the magical sphere of force, her eyes glittering dangerously as she glowers at the departing heroes.  With the sound of crashing rocks in the distance, billowing clouds of dust suddenly puff into the room from down the staircase, obscuring all sight of her.   Cracks appear in the windows that weren't already broken, and stepping further away from the cliff face, the group glance up to see the balcony where they had originally alighted some hour and a a half ago, suddenly sheer off with a deafening cracking noise and fall, the heavy stones passing them silently on route to their destruction below.

Stepping rapidly away from the cliff face, they look back to see another section of the cliff face also collapse, the castle above disintegrating into rubble as its foundations cave in beneath it.   The stained glass windows where they had just been, seem to explode outwards as Rughen's parent's crypt gives way and flattens.

The sound of falling rock is deafening as the top of the mountain collapses in on itself.

Stepping further into the sunshine with his grisly load, Lucretia is pleased to see the body start to smoulder, then burst into flame.  Running through the air to get him furthest away from the shadows of the mountainside, he bears the burning corpse for as long as he can before he is forced to drop it.  The acrid smell of burning flesh sears his nostrils and he blinks tears away as he steps clear of the smoke to watch the body fall away to the depths, crashing down into a field far below.  Although now in shade, he can see the flames and smoke continuing to issue from the now distant headless corpse.

"Where is Ceely!" Yv asks in horror, wondering if the lady had managed to get away from the falling rocks, and already regretting his suggestion to have someone stay to watch the demise of Santanico.

Glancing around the group hanging in mid-air, Yvandel is pleased to see that Ceely also made it out, though she is covered in rock dust from where it had billowed out of the collapsing windows.

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
"Milo, lead us down and away into the sunshine, I want to see what happens to our Count when the rays of the sun hit him!" Yv says, glad they managed to escape, and already hears Volo and Dolo writing the story he will tell in some inn on their further travels. Asking them to be a little quieter, Yv considers what they should try and do next. Personally, Yv expected some of the group to lead a treasure hunting expedition through the rubble, but he personally wanted to get out of there and back to the slightly safer life of a traveller going east. Looking down at the sigils, Yv wondered where they would ultimately lead them all. Feeling the beginnnings of the melancholy that came with thinking of Vaslin, Cleo and Larz, Yv changed the subject of his internal thinking to the treasure he had in his pocket. Hopefully Merrell and Blondung would be able to determine if it was of any use to them.

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard

Milo had quickly conjured the divine powers to grant the whole group the ability to tread on air as simply as if they were walking down some solid stone stairs. All it took for them then was a little bit of Faith in the Broken God, and a great deal of trust in their friend. And some disregard for common sense and logical disbelief. It helped that they had done it on the way up earlier that night, but somehow being able to see everything so clearly in the crisp morning sun made it more difficult. Seeing an assuredly lethal thousand-foot drop under one's steps did not help muster courage and confidence...

After a few hesitant steps and with the encouragements of Milo, they all start moving a good pace.
"Remember, this charm will only last for one hour... at the end of that hour, we had better be on solid ground. So start walking down! We should aim for somewhere on the road to the village. Keep moving!"

Like a celestial shepherd, Milo takes the lead and guides the other towards a safe clearing right by the road.

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
With some trepidation, the weary group "march" down the invisible slope of air towards the village below.   As they get closer, they can see figures in the streets, the villagers staring up towards the mountain top behind them where bits of rubble continue to occasionally rattle down.  Glancing back, it is clear that the castle no longer graces the skyline.

As the party get closer, the nearest villagers squint up at them, blinking against the morning sun behind them.  "What have you done?!" exclaims one person.   "You've killed us all!" laments another.

The innkeeper who had welcomed them when they had first arrived in the village the afternoon before (my, it seemed a long time ago now), stepped forward.  "Did yer do it?" he asks hopefully.

Elwin steps forward, and up a few steps to address the crowd of people that are gathering nearer.  "The Count is dead!" she proclaims loudly.  "Really dead - like dust in the wind!" she adds, perhaps even a little gleefully.

She turns in air and gestures at the Unknowns, her wave taking in her still battered brother Rufus.

"It was a hard fight, and without the help of these kind heroes, my brother and I would never have been able to persevere.  They have my thanks." she adds sincerely, looking at each of the Unknowns in turn.

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
The slimy leader of the local militia approaches at a run, late as usual with his sloppily dressed guards behind him.

"What's going on?" he demands, before he does a double-take, spying the destroyed castle behind the party.   His mouth opens and shuts a few times.

One of his guards places at one of his companions.  "Does this mean we can finally get to leave this god-forsaken place?" he asks.

She had watched for any sign of the snake vampire female before racing down as fast as she could safely move in the spider shoes and then join up with the rest as they hurried back to the small town.

She was sick and tired of vampires and wished that they had finished off the snake vampire but she did not know for sure so maybe the tramp would come back for one more shot at the group.

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
Yv was almost tempted to say to the guard that the place wasn't god forsaken, as Milo was there, but he suspected that the guard wouldn't understand.

Finding Dolo and Volo in his hands, Yv stepped forward to answer the captain, the puppet coming to life in his hands as he cleared his throught and began...

"Fine Captain, you see before you a lucky group of adventurers, who have walked away from the confines of the collapsing castle and its denizens of evil. We didn't bring the castle down, but we can claim a little adventure that made our hearts beat faster and our trousers need changing! For we have danced with evil and walked out the other side." Yv fell quiet as Dolo came through the puppet.

"Fine ladies and gentlemen, listen to the tale, of the Unknowns and their walk through the darkness that held sway on the castle above and the fine people below. By the power of our magic we walked upon the air, stepping as if on the shoulders of air elementals to face the enemy."
Volo butted in "You mean Milo got off his ass and cast a spell."
"The Unknowns went forth to find out who held sway over this land, who harvested the inhabitants and who was causing the troubles."
Again Volo butted in with, "You mean then went in search of treasure and found trouble instead."

The commander blinks at Yvandel, finally tearing his gaze away from the dust covered mountain top and its changed skyline.   "You went..." he finally blurts, before being interrupted by the puppets.

The locals start to gather closer, peering at the puppets and Yvandel as Yolo starts his tale, with Volo's interjections.  Smiles being to form at lips and the tension that had been in the crowd starts to ease.

Stepping down from her raised position, Elwin smiles beatifically at Yvandel and nods, appreciating his art.  Hearing Dorn's comment about resting up for whatever might come that night, she purses her lips.   "Even vampires might find a million tons of rocks difficult to deal with" she smiles.  "I doubt we'll have trouble again..."

Catching Milo's question to Blondung, she shrugs before the older mage can answer.  "My Brother and I will stay here for a while - to make sure that things settle down and that nothing crawls from the ruins.  But I'd guess that with Count Rughen finally gone - his curse that was preventing people from leaving this place would probably go as well..."

Re: 29th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Takard
The crowd draw closer to Yvandel and his puppets as they tell the tale, soon forgetting that they are listening to mere painted wood.  An air of celebration seems to build and soon, the party are being treated like heroes - with even the Zhent guards showing smiles.  Tables are brought out of the inn and set up, and food is gathered.  Someone starts playing an instrument and soon there is dancing and cheering, laughter and tears of joy.

The whole village turns out to celebrate the death of the count and the destruction of his castle and despite the party starting in the morning, it is long into the night that they continue.

Tired, but pleased with their work, the Unknowns take a cautious rest, keeping watches as if on the road, but the night is quiet and morning comes with the palpable feeling that a cloud has been lifted from the village.
