Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
She smiles to the couple that helped them drive the vampires off. "I am glad you joined the battle also and wish you natures bounty and many off spring to your mates, but of a truth my feet and eyes are yearning to once again press onward and see new lands and face new challenges.

Mayhaps another town or village will need my companions and myself to drive other dark foes from the homes. Peace to you Elwin."

She had already brushed and saddled her mount and knew that he was also ready to burn off the idleness of the past few days. She mounts the horse and enjoys looking over the vista upon the wild lands not tainted with houses or farms.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Yv stood there frozen, his heart beating hard and fast and his jaw was open at the unexpected event that had just occured. For a moment he felt the urge to run, but instead he looked over Elwin in a new light, one he rarely used.

Swallowing hard, and then licking his lips, Yv stepped forward awkwardly, his hand extending out towards Elwin, and yet stopping short. Turning to the side, Yv took a deep breath and moved to stand by Elwin, his hand gently taking hers, hoping against all hope that she would not snatch it away. Dolo and Volo both wanted to speak for him, but Yv knew that for this moment, he had to be Yv. Yv was surprised that where he would normally feel fear at having to be himself, he felt it was right.

Turning his head towards Elwin, Yv simply said, "Thank you", trying to hold her hand in a way that expressed his appreciation of her, her words and the feelings that were running amok within him. Yv so wanted to walk Elwin towards a quiet spot, so they could talk without worrying about others hearing their words, but was unsure of how he could raise the subject or even carry out that simple task. For the moment he was content to be with Elwin.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Elwin glances around as she feels Yvandel take her hand.  Turning towards him, she smiles sadly at him, realising he had perhaps taken her emotional kiss for more than it had meant.  "You will always have my gratitude for your heroism," she says softly, lifting his hand to hold it in front of her with both of hers.  "Appearing out of nowhere to strike the Count down..."  She shakes her head in almost disbelief as she recalls the moment.

Yvandel can sense the "but" coming.

"...But you do know our lives are destined for different tracks, don't you?"   She glances down at the sigils still crawling on the back of Yvandel's hand, and almost as if by drawing attention to them, Yvandel felt their tug, the need to keep going, to get to the east and the next sigil.  "I have work to do here, and, ah, other things are driving you on..."

She releases Yvandel's hand and lets it fall between them.  "Travel safely and may Kelemvor keep you safe."  Seeing Milo watching, she grins.  "And Ilmater of course!" she adds with a chuckle.

Looking back to Yvandel, she smiles sadly again.  "I do hope we'll meet again one day, though Kelemvor only knows when that might be."

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Yv feels the lump in his throat growing when Elwin takes his hands, and then realises his fears were real. Being pragmatic, Yv had perhaps allowed his inner hearts desire for someone in his life, like Ceely and Milo had for a while, and now knew things were not the way he had thought.

Standing up straight, Yv says, "Elwin, I know we are on different paths, at least for the moment. I hope, if I survive whatever these damned tattoo's take me through and you survive your mission to aid others, that perhaps I will be able to find you again, and we can sit and chat about our lives after this point. If the gods will it, then it shall be so. If not, know that I admire you immensely for what you have tried to do here. I may have been guided in my strike, by whatever of the gods decided to watch over me yesterday, but you stood their with me. As I admire Milo's faith in Ilmater, I admire your faith in Kelemvor. I have had little faith in anything for a long time. May your path be smooth and straight, and your life fulfilling in what you do from this day. I will always consider you a friend, as well as your brother. Go in peace."

With that, Yv turns away, afraid he or his inner voices might say something else and make this harder than he wanted it to be. Moving to his horse, Yv quickly mounts and moves off into the day, leaving the others behind as he rides off. Not looking back, Yv hopes that one day, when this is all done and the tattoo's no longer have a hold on him that he would be able to find Elwin again and he could spend some time with her.

Dorn did not really hold any hope that Elwin would be able to remove the tat's, but you don't know if you don't ask.  Shrugging, he readies himself to leave the town.  It felt good to remove so much evil although, it was ashame that nice castle had to come down with it.  A few years of fixing that place up and it would have been spectacular.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
With farewells said, the group finally gather their belongings together and leave the village of Orlbar, satisfied that they had managed to defeat the vampire menace.  With their sigils nagging them to press on with their journey, they rode out into the Greyvale, returning towards the inn where they spent the night and first drawn them off on this side-track.

The journey is uneventful, and almost in response to their success, the sun shines all day long.  As evening falls, the group enter again into the quiet hamlet that surround the haunted inn.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
She had set the pace for the ride at a fairly comfortable ride but not punishing due to them not having to get comfortable once again to the saddle.

Still she was enjoying the ride and that she was still alive and had been part of these heroes. Smelling the land around them she could pick out the faint parts that had the scent of civilization close enough to the road that it overpowered the wild clean smell of pure nature.

She had shifted her quiver to the horse as she road and watched the road for other riders or wagons because that was her nature to see them first before they spotted the group.

Suddenly her eyes caught the sight of the strange inn they had stopped at before turning off on her quest. "Inn up ahead, hot food for the night at least."

As the group approach the Nighthunter's Crossing inn, again, the doors pop open and the alert innkeeper pops his head out.  He oggles the group with a surprised expression on his face, then shakes himself, half turning to call behind him.  "They came back!" he blurts to those inside the inn.

Turning back to the party he bobs a greeting, a wide grin on his face, and hurries to open the stable doors so that the group can stable their mounts.

A short while later, the group have settled and groomed their horses, and find themselves again in the tap room of the Nighthunter's Crossing Inn.   The landlord busies himself preparing their drinks and ordering his daughter to sort out rooms and organise some food, whilst all the time, firing questions at the group, trying to hear more about what had happened in Orlbar.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Yv had kept his own council on the trip. preferring to think on the things that had happened and on the tale that needed to be told. Yv had even sat quietly when they stopped to eat, and even Volo and Dolo had kept quiet, even when the others had tried to open up a conversation.

On arriving at the inn, Yv had cheered up a little, aware he was potentially going to be called upon to entertain the crowd. Yv was happy enough to do that, as he knew it would distract him from other thoughts going through his head.

Yv took a moment to ask the innkeeper permission to do his act again, before taking a moment to get his trusted friends ready for the performance, and those that knew Yv would have been a little surprised by the darkness in his face as he began his tale...

As they travelled along the day, the solid dwarf is completely quiet and seems distant, even for a dwarf.  If asked, he says he if fine, just thinking.  By the time they reach the inn, he seems, at peace, as if a weight has been lifted from him.  As food and drink is served, he seems almost pleased.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Yv begins with a light rolling voice, his own set low enough that people strain slightly to hear and therefore take more notice of what is being said, “Gather close, stoke the fire and listen to the tale of Orlbar and the evil that once resided there. For this is a tale, a new one at that, that will send shivers down your spine and send you to your beds aware of the evils of the world.” With that, Yv hums a note, setting his voice a little higher and sings a light refrain.

Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar. Of the sister and brother. Of the evil they faced. Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar, and take it as warning of the dangers they faced.”

Dolo came forward, his face looking out at the crowd as Yv’s head bowed as if at sleep. “Listen well indeed fair people of the Nighthunter’s Crossing Inn, for tonight we bring you the first ever performance of the Tale of Orlbar, that town not far from here, but far enough to spare you the dangers we have witnessed and the site of great valour of a simple woman and her brother. For this is the tale of the fight against evil, the fight for life over death and the fall of a Lord. Listen well, so that others may learn and not accept the same fate of the people of Orlbar.”

Dolo’s head turns and for a moment looks out again at the crowd, before Volo comes to the fore. “But know brother, your tale will cause many a fright, so good patrons know I will be here to add some light to the darkness of this tale. So let me add this little item to your minds view. Our heroes are a brother and a sister, set upon their task by a hardship they have both suffered at the hands of the evil they seek to destroy, fair Elwin brings her heart to the fight, and her faith to the aid of others, and her brother Rufus carries with him weapons to back up his sisters faith with actions worthy of a heroes recognition. Know they both are true of heart and full of faith in the protection of those enraptured by the evil that they sought out in Orlbar. Not the simple persecution some suffer from distant lands, but that of an ancient evil worthy of your dread.”

Dolo takes up the story again, the darkness almost descending from the ceiling as he continued, “Before you sit those witnesses to the evil, and how it was vanquished. This band of Unknowns travelled to Orlbar, seeking the story told here in this place. They found a terrified town, held under the power of a great evil. But within the town stood two heroes, our fair Elwin and Rufus her brother, standing tall against the potential disaster that could fall from the castle above on any moonlight night. Our visitors were invited to take shelter in the inn, its entertainment proved to be enticing and horrifying at the same time. As we band of unknowns stood before the revealed evil presence, our heroes stepped forward beside us and fought off the attack. It was then obvious to all that the evil that held sway over the town was that of Vampires!”

Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar. Of the sister and brother. Of the evil they faced. Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar, and take it as warning of the dangers they faced.” Yv sang lightly again, before Dolo continued.

In the darkness of the night, our heroes stood with us few unknowns and stared down the night stalkers until the sun arose and the fiends fled back to their holes. At that moment, the heroes and unknowns came together and determined to end the threat to man, woman and child, by stalking the vampires back to their home in the castle above the town. The gods answered the call and the air itself allowed the party to walk to the very confines of the castle without notice of the unholy guards the vampires had in place. Entering the dungeons through a hidden entrance, and guided by a new light, they came across many undead, fighting for their lives as they sought out the Lord of the vampires, determined to ensure his demise and those he had risen against the land.”

Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar. Of the sister and brother. Of the evil they faced. Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar, and take it as warning of the dangers they faced.” Yv sang lightly, before Dolo continued again.

You’ll notice my brother remains quiet, for there is little light from this tale, for fighting vampires is dangerous and nearly took the life of some of us here, but for the actions of Elwin and Rufus. Taking on those undead creature that align themselves with vampires, the group came across a locked and barred room, ornamented plainly, but obviously for one of power, and finding no way in but through the use of magic, the unknowns found themselves fighting fog and golems and the fear of the newly awoken master of the castle. Whilst the Lord slipped out of his hole, the unknowns fought for stay alive, and the fair Elwin slipped into position to catch him unawares. Her whip spun out its wicked sharp tail, but not to cut but to take a hold of the vampire’s leg and to trip it up onto the floor. From the other side came Rufus, wooden stake in hand, and he fell upon the fiend, his aim held true by Elwin’s faith and perhaps a guiding hand from the gods above. The wood struck true, and through the undead heart it went, and for a cry that rang through the castle in such horror as the Lord died, all were shaken. As the Lord crumbled as his years of evil caught up with him, the call from Elwin and Rufus to us sat here brought us to the horror of the collapsing castle and the life’s at risk. They guided us back to the entrance we had used, and again the gods answered our call and on the air we walked back down as the walls and towers of the castle fell in place and the dust of many evil creatures met their final end.”

Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar. Of the sister and brother. Of the evil they faced. Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar, and take it as warning of the dangers they faced.” Yv sang lightly, before Dolo continued again.

Although one evil ends, others will find goodness and descend on it. Know that our two heroes have vowed to defend those in danger as they find them on their travels. We unknowns are thankful for their help, but as we move on we will tell the tale of fair Elwin and Rufus, and know that they may heed your call if you need it, if their travels bring them close enough to hear.”

Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar. Of the sister and brother. Of the evil they faced. Come listen to me, of the tale of Orlbar, and take it as warning of the dangers they faced.” Yv sang finally, raising in volume to the end, of both the song and the tale he had told.

Yv sat for a moment, before lifting his head and looking around the room, taking in the faces of those that had listened, hoping to see hope in their eyes as well as the fear he knew they should feel.

Yv knew the tale was not finished, as it needed more gore and more heroics, but he had desired to tell the tale tonight, and with these people knowing of the town nearby, Yv had held back somewhat on the power of the evil that had held sway. So Yv had held back, allowing new words come to mind even as Dolo told his tale, aware these words would add to the impact and the story in the months to come as they travelled wherever the tattoos took them.

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
The locals listen closely to Yvandel's tale, both caught by his skilful use of ventriloquism, his artfully crafted words, and their own  burning desire to hear news of Orlbar.  As the tale draws to a close, there is a moments silence, then spontaneous round of applause.  The mood in the inn is at once both sombre and celebratory as the conversation resumes - questions are fired at the group from all sides.

"Where are the siblings now?"
"Is Orlbar now free of all undead?"
"Are the vampire what has been causing all the caravans to stop in the Greyvale?"
"What was the castle like?"
"What did you mean about walking in the air?"
"Were you scared?"
...

The group answer the questions as best they can, and the evening quickly passes.  Food and drink just seems to appear, their preferred choices from their previous visit automatically being provided with no call for cost.  As the evening winds to a close, the landlord announces that he'd got their rooms ready for them, and the group prepare for bed.

Yv follows the story of Orlbar with the tale he had already told in the inn, that of the destruction of the dragon, hoping to cheer up an obviously disappointed Luc.

The drink was nice, but Yv didn't drink much, preferring to stay awake as much as possible. Appreciative of the food, Yv enjoys tucking into that, whenever the chance is given him by the people asking questions. Overall, Yv is content to have the prospect of a quiet nights sleep.

The evening wears on.  Soon enough, Yvandel is talked out and the locals inevitable thirst for news sated.  The rest of the group, also feeling the urge that drove Blondung to an early bed, feel their enjoyment of their recent triumph marred somewhat, but do their best to enjoy the evening.

The innkeeper's daughter, Lanandra, is particularly awe-struck by the Unknowns, and latches onto Lucretia, despite her father continuously sending her off on errands into the kitchens or stables.  As the evening draws to a close, she complains about how boring Nighthunter's Crossing is and how she wishes she too could live the life of an adventurer.

OOC: How much does everyone drink?  There is a celebratory air to the inn and the drinks are flowing freely :-)

He engages the young girl with question on adventuring such as: is she proficient in any weapons? does she know magic? what talents does she have? what she considers to be a life of adventure?

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Lanandra professes to knowing nothing of magic, though she declares somewhat proudly that if needed, she was very capable of defending herself.  In her, perhaps somewhat rose tinted view of the life of an adventurer, she envisages life on the open road as somewhat idyllic, exploring new lands, discovering ancient tombs and defeating evil!  The reality of blood and gore, walking footsore in the rain and dealing with the constant threat of death seems far from her vision.

As the evening comes to a close, she makes her excuses and slips out of the side door into the stables...

Re: 30th Eleasias (Highsun) 1370 - Year of the Tankard
Milo had settled into the evening, letting the chance to really relax sweep over him and he enjoyed a few mugs of the landlords finest ale, before settling on water. Milo watched over the group, as he did many times when they had a chance to relax, letting his own mind wander over to Ceely, and wondering what she was thinking about. Milo certainly didn't think it was him, although he had spent many a quiet moment thinking about her.

Milo enjoyed Yv's attempts to bring news and tales of daring to the crowd, and was appreciative as always when Volo and Dolo paid only a little part in the evening. The puppets still worried Milo when they appeared, as Yv seemed to chance slightly in his attitude. Milo had no real concerns, but he feel happier when the puppets were left in Yv's backpack.

Blondung's early night was a usual event, and Milo worried his friend was perhaps playing the outsider of the group too much, but certainly their growing closeness to Blondung's previous life was one that worried his friend.

Milo was tempted to challenge Dorn again to a drinking competition, knowing the crowd would have perhaps enjoyed both of their abilities to drink copious amounts of ale, yet Milo remembered another event, not that long ago, when Larz had been in the group and Milo had used his spells to prove a point to both of the dwarves. They had taken it in a good spirit when Milo had explained his ability to drink as much as them, but knew tonight might not be a good one to bring up the fact that Larz was no longer with them.

With the thoughts of Larz, Milo's thoughts went to the others that had lost their lives along the way, and decided he needed to change his view on life for the moment.

Taking out his holy symbol, Milo took a few moments to send a prayer to Ilmater for his help in defeating the evil in world, and asked that he continue to be blessed by Ilmater as his agent to reduce the suffering in the world.

Finishing his water, Milo took himself to bed, a good nights sleep after a hectic night and day would serve everyone best.

The celebration that was rising in tempo was fun after their harrowing bruising battle in the vampires castle but as much as she might have liked to play the plucky hero, the noise and people shouting for their rescue drove her to wanting the peaceful forest or the rolling combs of ocean water under her feet and the silence of early morning watches.

She drank a little to not insult the host's and she danced a couple of swirling dances with the locals and traded small talk about what it must have been like within the castle of vampires.

She did manged to ask her friends did anyone have a thought where their sigals were sending them next?.

The evening continues late into the night, ending earlier for some than others as large amounts of alcohol are consumed by those who stay up, joining in with the locals to celebrate.  Even the landlord joins in, joining Dorn and the local smithy dwarven lady to quaff some of her home made dwarven ale..

Eventually however the evening ends, and the final members of the unknowns make their way to their individual bedrooms as the various locals stagger back to their own homes.
