Re: OOC: Characters

If your using standard radio's it becomes an issue but if your using a secure net or freq hopping it's almost impossible to intercept and decode. Best bet is to just jam a major band of freqs and take the radios away from your opponents. Strict control on who has radios and making sure they are all returned or accounted for is key.

My opinion on radio calls is keep it simple. Last thing you want is someone struggling to remember proper radio procedures and call signs while taking rounds. Granted in a gaming sense, they can just refer back to the post. Nicknames and often vague references are enough to get the point across but not give away any real info to a unknowing listener. Knowing the person on the other end helps a lot in this. Take this as an example.

"Potsie to Ralph... Potsie to Ralph. No burgers found at store 2. Headed to store 3. Please advise if reschedule is made on the birthday party. Out."

"Potsie to Ralph... Potsie to Ralph. Hamburgers found at store 3. Headed to check on kids meals. Will call for taxi. Don't wait up. Out."

Without a point of reference you don't have a clue. But to those that know the plan of action
Store 2 = objective 2.
Burgers = what we were looking for.
Kids meals = checking on Kids a vague reference but easy enough to figure out if you knew the plan.
Birthday party was was a possible raid being planned.
Taxi was the extraction. which is easy for most to figure out but since only the two parties know where it is and only I can start that process then it's  almost useless intel.

This was over freq hopping radios so there is almost no chance of intercept but even if someone overheard either radio at the source they haven't a clue. Potsie and Ralph are references to Happy Days characters my character and the other would probably be familiar with due to our ages. You can substitute hobbies, regional backgrounds or just about anything to make these up.

None of these call signs were discussed before the mission.

Tony, did you have any trouble figuring them out?

This form also allows some creativity to come through as well.  But again, that is just my opinion.

In reply to Robert A. Conklin (msg #152):

it's cool.. but...

this little party will have a lot of guests....

honestly, it is more important to keep order and a clear net than to have security.

the civs will likely be a whole batch of folks unused to radio ops, and to break their call signs down via team number is simply efficient.

I do get a bit of fun on the road reading bumpers off military vehicles myself

2/7 CAV  -----  HQ-6  *point point point*  That's the colonel's jeep!  Check out the radio antennas all over it too!
A panel van or expandable duece/five with 4/77FA ----- B-7   Check out the tail end charlie, that's maintenance!

some people love watching license plates, I love reading bumper numbers.  Count me weird I guess?

Rick,

I kind of figured it out, works for me.

In this case, the channel is unsecure as most of UBC's radios are hand-held Motorolas, and the personnel are indeed not idiots, but not experienced.

Rounding off CUF and OODA values:

Read the rules, can't see it anywhere in Characters, Combat or the Checklist.

I would say round mathematically, so .5 is rounded up.

Anyone have a different interpretation?

I THOUGHT it was in the main rulebook but I just looked for it and couldn't find it.  We always rounded DOWN.

This is up to the GM now.

Rounding down works for me!

It's funny. Several people in the group (myself, Lee, Hawke) all played The Morrow Project 3rd edition. TMP is a real dog's breakfast when it came to rules. (Javier also helped me designing and running my SPECIALTY QP-11 (PSYOPS) campaign but this is actually his first RPG ever.)

Actually, in comparison, 2013 isn't that bad compared to previous versions.

T2K has always been a complex game... gaw.. what will we call it?  T... um, nevermind

round down works, it makes my 10 and 8 in those stats matter, right?

Re: OOC: Characters

To reiterate:

New PCs (Hawke, Stone, Lo) are Veterans and start per the book in terms of skills.

Continuing PCs (McRae, Champlain, Shevchenko) get 10 rolls (max 3 per skill) for experience checks. They also get 1 bonus point for "training" at UBC. Finally, they've been in enough combat to a +1 to either OODA (initiative) or CUF (Cool).

Thanks for all the help Tony.. that was painful, but I learned a lot in a short time, and I think this new system might be pretty cool.

Max,

Excellent! Something to add to the errata, perhaps as a clarification.

Lee,

Not quite ready to begin, if you have a monster post why not put it in the fan-fic thread? Nothing saying fan-fic can't be about your own character!

As for characters, here's what we have:

Taras: Complete
Kel:   Complete
Andy:  Still waiting (I understood there would be a delay)

Matt:     Character done, need gear and more background.
William:  Character done. Need gear. Need background.
Wayne:    Need character, gear, background.

Re: OOC: Characters

Team,

For a random blood type, if the book doesn't have a chart you can use the one in the Morrow Project rule book (TM 1-1) if you have it. If not, you can use the following link, which will also generate height, weight, etc:

http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

Max: could you please email me with the excel spreadsheet, and I will provide a link through this game. Thanks!

In reply to helbent4 (msg #164):

There was a place to roll for blood type.

You also roll for Height and Weight, and weight and build decide how much you can carry, and how many calories your body needs a day or it is 'starving'.  To get "athletic" build you have to have attributes to back it up.

Crazy huh?

Oh, I wouldn't mind that level of detail. Probably a little too detailed about the caloric intake but it's still just "units" of "food" no matter how you want to slice it. You could lose weight by limiting caloric intake, maybe go on weight watchers.

I didn't do the caloric intake but will calculate it if you wish!  Kelsey's body needs a fair amount of calories to operate, since she is very athletic.

I totally 'dug' the way to do the rest, it was a lot of work, but I was smiling when I did it.  This system has some cool details in it.  Few games do anymore.  A system for hardcore gamers, I guess?

Lee,

Correct, anyone with Aquatics (and really, that should be almost all of you) get the SCUBA qualification for free. I guess if you don't have Aquatics at all you can have a free level in that instead.

Mark, Lee, Joshua,

As the last step in the free givaway, all CF soldiers get 1 free level in Language: French.

Max: in your opinion, would there be a team bonus? Matt is coming in from outside, as is William and Wayne. Other characters have been together for a while and have worked as a tight-knit unit. Years of play in real time, maybe months of game time.

Too funny!  Kelsey is now better at French (very slightly) than she is at English.  I took advantage of the free doubling of languages to pick both up at 6 initially, then added 2 points to each to make her 'pro' fluent in both
