Re: Out of Character 1

Sounds very much like Australian law up until about 10 years ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P..._massacre_(Australia)
Inspite of the tighter gun laws, I know of many people who still have weapons made illegal after the events above. I won't comment on whether or not I'm one of them, but I will say I didn't hand anything in....

A few years after leaving the army I ended up working in a gun shop in Sydney. That was a real eye opener! While I knew there was a thriving black market, little did I realise just how widespread it was!

Re: Out of Character 1

Anyone who wants their character to go to the pub should reply to my post!

It's hard to say what the law would be like in regards to firearms under military rule. Most likely, they would be banned for all civilians except if special dispensation given from the government and military. As well, private citizens will probably still possess them anyways, figuring the chance of being charged or arrested slim, under the circumstances.

Most likely the RCMP/military would be most interested in confiscating weapons that are either military grade or in the hands of criminals or undesirables, particularly handguns.

Game Pace

Group,

I'd like to keep up the pace if at all possible!

Rae's making a post every 2 or 3 days. I'd like to do the same.

In fact, as most players (with the exception of Javier) are involved in Rae's game, there is no particular reason not to post in both games one after the other.

If anyone has a problem with this, please let me know!

Thanks,

Tony

Re: Game Pace

Javier, well done my friend!

I trust that all players will respect what their characters will be able to "know", even though they can all access the same information!

I would also like to move the game ahead, so both sets of players will soon be playing from the same sheet of music.

Please bear with me, and I hope you can all follow along!

Re: Game Pace

Thank you, Tony.

I'll try to make only a few more posts displaying the day to day life in the Faculty while the team arrives. No real rush. That will help to have some preview scope on the University and its characters without having to extend briefings for too long when everybody arrives. Please let me know what should be the frequency of posting so everyone can follow up.

Javier,

That sounds good, I understand what you are getting at any appreciate it.

Posting will be from me every 2 days or so. It's hard to define a "day" for me, working graveyard!

I took the liberty of moving your latest post back to the previous "Prologue" thread because it takes place chronologically on the same day (Saturday) while the "Cowichan Bay..." thread is taking place on Sunday morning.

When you post actions and dialogue for Taras that occur on Sunday, then you can post those to the latter section for clarity.

Re: Game Pace

I believe everyone should have an individual tactical radio except Kelsy who's lugging about a manpack PRC-77 (or whatever it is). Therefore we should all be able to communicate with each other without actually being face to face.

Who's up for nuking the man with the boat just to be on the safe side?   :P

Javier,

You're welcome!

Actually, I can usually post daily. I will be glad to speed up the pace if the players can keep up!

I will "cue" you as to when Taras gets directly involved in the story. I don't mind players adding in dialogue for NPCs (Non-Player Characters like Angela, etc.).

Be patient, my friend.

Correct, the manpack radio is a PRC-77. I added a Motorola hand radio to Chris to be sure. It's unscrambled, as are all your personal radios.

Checking the tides, the current is actually slack where you are (the incoming tide negates the river's current). The ship can easily maintain it's position for quite some time. That was part of the point of arriving at this particular time.

I'm assuming Lee is wearing her duty uniform or assault fatigues. The latter will be quite warm in this weather.

Re: Game Pace

From memory we bought an extra tac radio with the group allowance to provide one of the two NPCs with comms. As Chris has a hand radio, Kelsy should probably get the tac radio so that she can leave the much heavier manpack with the LAV while we're working in and around it.

Naturally as the tac radios have limited range (about a kilometre I think) the manpack will be carried each and every time we move a significant distance from the LAV (more than 750m just to be safe).

Also, as I've previously posted, we'd be absolute fools to leave the LAV unmanned at any time. I envisage the LAV, once we've arrived at the Uni, will essentially become a static base of operations unless long distances (more than a couple of kilometres) need to be crossed to achieve some goal or other.

The radio mast, barbed wire, sandbagged emplacements etc can stay in place even when we do drive somewhere (radios would be disconnected and taken though).

Andrew,

Bueno!

The NPCs will also allow you to keep a crew with the LAV when leaving it. Both Chris and Kelsey can drive it, as it's a wheeled vehicle.

Radio Call Signs

I forgot to add this:

Assigning call-signs is the responsibility of the Signaller. They change every day. For the sake of security, the OC ("Officer Commanding") is generally not "6". For the sake of argument, we'll assign the following call signs:

Uniform 1-1: Lee

Uniform 1-2: McRae

Uniform 1-3: Jagelis (also "Uniform Actual")

Uniform 1-4: MacDonald

Uniform 1-5:
Champlain

Uniform 1-6:
Fox

Push (Channel) 1: Team Tactical comms (all tactical/pack/vehicle radios; unscrambled)

Push (Channel) 2: Secure Team Tactical comms (pack/vehicle radios; scrambled)

Push (Channel) 3: Long-Range comms (Team and DRI/VIC channel; scrambled)

Push (Channel) 4: Alternative Team comms

Push (Channel) 5: Alternative Secure Tactical comms

Push (Channel) 6: Alternative Long-Range comms

Notes: the local hand-held tactical radios are unscrambled. They can be patched into the long-range net so that (say) someone not immediately beside the vehicle or PRC-77 could be relayed by the long-range sets.

You don't have to worry about "correct" radio protocol. We'll assume you're using the correct terminology, etc.
"Push": slang for channel/frequency.

Re: Radio Call Signs

I think we can all assume that radios will be set to channel 1 as a default. The actual frequency will change at least every 24 hours, more often as required.
One of the two vehicle radios (I'm fairly certain there's two) will be set to channel 3 by default.

A second SOP (Standard Operating Proceedure) will be the carraige of weapons at all times. This may only be a pistol or SMG while in secure areas, but weapons, unless otherwise specifically required (diplomatic meetings, etc) will be carried by everyone.
Just common sense really, but a reminder that needs to be given, especially to new recruits until it becomes second nature. If nothing else it will prevent small children etc from picking them up...

Tony,

Would you be willing to make an open team intel thread for the posting of items such as the radio freqs and call-signs. I won't remember all of them and I'd rather not have to come back and search the OOC.

Thanks.

I second that. Definately a good idea for a "notepad" for info we'll all need to refer back to in the future.

Not a problem. I'll start a new thread now and  then repost reference information there when I get a chance.

For example, not only call signs and intel but team gear and links to maps.

By the way, how are the map links workin' for ya?

Marching order!

I mean, how do you want the "stack" (nickname for a tactical unit in FIBUA) arranged?  I'm not too sure how how the military does it.

If it's like SWAT/ERT, then the 4-person element would have 2 pairs. There would be a scout/keyman/breacher. They usually have an SMG and a mirror, and/or a shotgun for shooting off door locks. They would be paired with a cover man. Then comes the stack commander and lastly the rearguard.

Definately pair up I think. Ben with McRae to act as fire support while Fox and Lee team up as the breachers.

I've posted Ben's equipment in the info thread, or at least the items he's made public. Could everyone else please do the same, especially weapons and useful items such as NVGs and medical kits?

I think I saw somewhere that Lee has a shotgun and I believe McRae carries a sniper rifle of some type. I know it's all probably listed somewhere in the OOC: Characters thread, but I'm lazy and prefer not to trawl through dozens of posts.   ;)

"Umm, yeah..." Who are you, freakin' "Lumburgh" from Office Space?

No need to thank me for posting the information. Happy to oblige!  =]

All kidding aside, there are 5 large buildings in the shipyard. #1-5 from left to right. Which order to search? Also,

there are 2 smaller buildings that look like houses on the property. Search them? East then west or vice-versa?

Lee has an MP5A3 SMG and Remington 12 ga. shotgun. Either or has tac-light attachments.

McRae has a C3A1 rifle and C8A1/ELCAN carbine.
