And Fox is armed with....?

Start at the eastern building (#5) and work west I think. Exactly how entry is to be made etc I think we can leave up to our "expert" at this sort of thing, Zhang Lee.

Jeeze, you asked about Lee and McRae, I gotta do everything?  ;)

Granted, I don't think Brandon publicly posted his gear. It looks like a C7A1/ELCAN.

I'll give the other players a chance to post, then do the building-clearing.

Are you going to leave the smaller outbuildings alone? They are located by Building #5.

What, you want me to make ALL the decisions?   ;)

I think we'll see what's found in #5 first but I'm sure it's a good idea to get to them sooner or later.

I guess this is the kind of decision you can easily make on the fly.

Personally I doubt there's much of interest there but we (the characters) need to be sure.

Times like this I wish we had more cannon fodder NPCs.   :S

I'd like to post the building-clearing op tomorrow, so please post-up by then.

If need be, I'll NPC any characters who've not posted. Hate to do that, but the show must go on!

Rae,

Not a problem at all, it's mostly Jinny that's on the spot, anyways.

Absent player input, Lee will probably go with the SMG and Halligan entry tool (for quieter but slower breaching than the shogun). In Rescue Services a Halligan tool is paired with a fire axe to make a "married" set.

This is from a document obtained through the freedom-of-information act, regarding ERT sniper teams that were deployed around Parliament when some controversial anti-gun legislation was enacted:

RCMP’S DESCRIPTION OF FIREARMS

   1. The ERT [Emergency Response Team] .308 rifle is custom made here in the Armourer shop. We use Winchester Model 70 rifle actions. We mate the receiver to custom barrel, fibreglass stock, custom scope base and a Leupold Vari – x3 Police scope.
   2. Heckler and Koch, Model MP5A3 submachine gun, 9mm x 19 calibre with a selection lever for semi-automatic fire only, a multipurpose carrying sling, two 15 round and one 30 round magazines. Barrel Length – 8.85 inches (325 mm), Stock - Retractable butt stock, Sights – Dioptre-Rotary rear sight, adjustable for windage and elevation, rigid front sight.
   3. The Sig/Sauer Pistol is a 9x19mm semi-automatic pistol with a 15 round magazine. It fires double action from the first shot with subsequent shots being single action. The Sig/Sauer P226 pistol is being phased out as new members are trained on S&W and join the teams.
   4. Smith & Wesson, model 5946 semi-automatic pistol, 9mm x 19 calibre with three (3) 15-round magazines, double action only, and a safety. Operation – recoil operated, locked breech, delay blow back. Barrel Length – 101mm. Overall Length 197mm. Sights – three (3) dot, Novak-style flat black, green coloured, tritium night sights.

Note: in T2K the gloves are off and the RCMP ERTs will have burst-fire trigger groups installed (a simple operation).

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

Hopefully, we can have IC posts by tomorrow at the latest!

Absent player input, I will assume Lee is leaning towards low-impact over safety for all structures.

That is, she will be making a verbal announcment before entering a building, looking for an unlocked door instead of forcing an entry, making a positive ID before engaging a target.

This will lower the chance of an unfortunate incident occurring, but anyone inside will be warned ahead of time of your entry.

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

That's the general idea. It's not a warzone we're in, at least as far as we know, so a gentle hello is the preference at this stage rather than a full explosive entry.

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

To reiterate that article on the Emergencies Act I posted not too long ago, the law of the land is the most extreme level. Although there is now a civilian federal government in power, these provisions have not been rescinded.

Basically, you pretty much have free rein to do what you want. The Charter of Rights is revoked and the Constitution is suspended, you can detain individuals without trial indefinitely, there is no right to associate, etc.

Technically, you don't need a warrant to enter private property either.

It bears reminding that throwing your weight around will generally be counter-productive!

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

Group,

Thanks for posting your equipment! It should be a great help. (If Rae wants me to, I will be happy to post Andy's gear for him to save him the trouble; he's got his own highly cool game to run!)

On an aesthetic note, if you haven't chosen a background theme colour for the RPOL website I highly recommend "Dark Green".

Go to "User Preferences" in the upper left. Go to "Your Control Panel > Your Color Scheme" and select Dark Green. Looks pretty spiffy for a military-themed game!

Although we have the ability to throw our weight about, we certainly don't have the numbers. Maybe if we had ten times as many people....
I think the overall idea behind the mission is to go in, see what's still working and whats not, who's in control of the various resources and facilities and try to make friends. Bursting in through every door with weapons drawn is a recipe for a bullet in the back.

Andrew,

That's basically the mission from the DRI, at least from a military perspective.

You've also been assigned a "political" goal by VIC (Vancouver Island Command) of liaising with the community at UBC and establishing a base of operations there for the future (either by you or someone else).

It's uncomfortable mixture of political and military goals.

Ha! C'est la guerre.

I took a personal look at the Celtic shipyard and Deering island yesterday.

The narrow channel between the island and the shore is far too narrow to admit a ship, as I suspected.

On the north side is a marina, on the south are pleasure-boat docks. Neither of which would possibly support the weight of a LAV!

Deering Island itself is interesting, it's a single "suburban" street lined with large upscale houses. They have no front yards; they all have awesome back yards (the ones on the river have great views of the river and the airport, most of the ones on the other side have boat docks).

As a last note, "tactical blocks" in combat (name, weapon/ammunition, location, action) are nice but not mandatory. With only 4 PCs to keep track of, it's not as crucial as other games! I may require them later, if I feel they would be of greater help.

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

I now have some pictures of the Celtic shipyard and surrounding area, including Deering Island.

Unfortunately, my camera batteries died.

Even more unfortunately, I'm far too tired to post them.

Absent more player posting, I will have a GM post out some time tonight.

Re: Gear Post and Tactical Arrangement

I was waiting for a more conventional "go" signal.

Being so tired, I didn't notice that this was not the plan!

Okay, ground floor is clear.

Lee and Fox are inside, Jagelis and McRae are outside. Splitting up like this is not really tactically advisable, but understandable under the circumstances.

Again, sorry for missing my cue!

Celtic shipyard at dawn from the east end of Deering Island. The structure in middle left is a boathouse and a marina on the far shore.

My pleasure. Sorry about the silhouetted pictures!

The tall 3-story structure in the middle is #3, in the middle. It seems to be the main building.

Building #2 (from west to east) looks like the main offices of the yard.

There's no problem!

From my experience, comms difficulties and missed transmissions like this are not uncommon.

I am much more used to PBeMs, which seem to be faster-paced.

If and when players post, I generally try and post a reply without waiting. So it's not meant as a comment or critique if a player can't post as often.
