Re: Rad Recce Run Pt. 2
The wind seemed to be dying down but there was the occasional sprinkle of rain to contrast with the early morning sunshine. The dying wind helped Taras' smokescreen spread and he was able to deploy the second smoke grenade but it didn't quite go where he wanted. Still, things seemed to be developing nicely. He held the last of the prepared smoke grenades in his hand, ready to pull the pin and deploy.
lacking any obvious targets other than the rail cars where Taras' team was taking shelter, the SAW gunner above them continued to spray suppressive fire in that direction. He cut down to a couple short controlled 5-round bursts to remind them he was there and would cut them down if they broke cover. The personnel accompanying Taras held firm, not panicking but waiting for the SAW to run low on ammunition or the smoke screen to spread and thicken. Hopefully both. Bullets whanged off the metal and spanged into the gravel of the train yard around Taras' elements' cover.
Ducking down beside a train wheel, Sheeler risked taking a look for the SAW gunner. He was unable to spot the shooter, despite his risky bravery. The SAW gunner spotted him, though, and loosed a burst in his direction. The rounds came close but bounced off the rusty steel that Sheeler was taking cover behind.
The BTR's turret kept tracking left from the Humvee, engaging the group around where the RPG was spotted. The 14.5mm rounds ripped up the bushes and trees, showing the ground with murdered greenery. There was no sign of life from the Humvee, the driver and gunner dead where they sat or lay. This was a good thing for Kelsey, temporarily stunned by the bullet that was luckily absorbed by her flak vest.
The red smoke from the canister that Pütsep deployed at the rear of the BTR drifted east on the wind, obscuring the end of the parking lot where the Humvee sat. From that direction came the roar of an engine, like another truck or vehicle was pulling up.
Rachel didn't back up the LAV but instead dropped the ramp. Delaney and Mac dragged von Stahl up inside where the team's medic could work on him in safety. Bezhov kept moving to the waiting LAV. Fox couldn't see any targets but kept scanning anyways. Tremblay looked through the thermal sights, trying to decide if the heat spots represented active threats. With Andy remaining in his line of fire he hesitated to engage the area where the RPG was located, but the BTR was doing the job and shooting them up itself!
