Re: Goin' on a Safari

Mac, Kel and Hawke walked out the rear gate to the service vehicle lot. There the small convoy waited.

There were no strangers in sight. Tremblay informed them, "the native militia guys, they moved off in that direction. West. Towards the museum about a block away."

Inside, satisfied that the soldiers were doing what they could to help, Old Willie started to answer some questions.

a) Where are the Hell Angels located? Have they any prisoners or hostages with them?
"They's located in Langley. Got a modern club house there. A lot more of 'em been arriving in the last month. I hear a couple hundred! I haven't heard of any hostages or prisoners, but people are afraid to talk about 'em."
b) What are the shortcomings being experienced by the HA in their violent campaign?
"In the past, they didn't have really any shortcomings. Some of the bikers got rowdy in a pub in Aldergrove, assaulted folks. One even raped a girl. The Sergeant at Arms apologised to the owner and made paid restitution. The rapist was founded dead, killed execution style. The HAs said they did it as punishment. This was when there was only about a dozen or so. If they got a problem, it's keeping so many Angels occupied, they been getting restless. Plus, a lot of 'em are new, not as used to Angel discipline."
c) What is the HA operational and political planning?
"They been running a kind of shadow government. Not civil services, and not inside the communities themselves, but keeping the bandits and deserters in check."
d) What are the HA numbers, organisation, deployments, training, weapons and communications means? "I've heard a dozen to two hundred plus. I would say at least a hundred. They been "patching over" lots of other gangs and givin' patches to army deserters. They probably got small arms, but I heard they have some machine guns, an APC. Even a tank! Don't know what kind. They got radios, both CB and military, but I'd guess not a lot of skilled operators. So they like using bike couriers for important information. Keep it off the air."
e) How are the relations with the other communities around?
"The local farming communities of Aldergrove and Abbotsford aren't strong or together enough to fight 'em off. But they mostly leave each other alone. Without the farmers, the HAs got nothing to eat."
f) What is the magnitude of involvement of the HA against other communities including plans against the Government?
"For the most part it was live and let live. Run drugs and guns across the old border. Things have changed now, they got real big in a hurry. Like I said, they been hiring mercenaries, mainly deserters who kept their weapons. I think they're looking for payback."
g) What is the HA morale like? How are the conditions in their bases?
"I think they didn't like getting kicked out of Vancouver. They're getting restless. Can't say what things are like in their camp."
h) What are the HA's intelligence network details and priorities for operations against other citizens?
"They got informers all over the place. I hear a lot of independent survivors like hunters been used to watch roads, keep tabs on things for them. The natives don't like 'em, will trade with 'em but won't cooperate with 'em any further than they have to."

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 733):

They headed down the street towards the Langley Centennial Museum. It wasn't an old house but 2 slightly more modern buildings. Outside the main exhibition building were rusted examples of farm machinery, some dating back to the 20's and earlier. Weeds and grass grew out of cracks in the pavement.

The main windows were intact, but obscured with dust. Inside was the dim form of more machinery, displays. And, hanging from the roof... some kind of biplane?

A breeze rustled the leaves overhead.

Four native men in camouflage clothing stepped out from between the two buildings. Three were younger and wore bandanas over their faces and boonie hats on their heads. One was older, bare faced and clean shaved. They carried bolt-action hunting rifles with scopes and shotguns.

Slinging his shotgun, the elder held out his hand to shake. "I'm Chief Williams, of the Kwantlen Native Reserve on the island. Heard a couple of you came through. I was out fishing with a mate of yours. He's a soldier like you, there was a miscommunication when your guys came up the river, earlier. He was supposed to meet you on Barnston Island.

"He should be along any time, now."

Kelsey waits until the men seemed a little finished before offering her own hand as well, and offering her very best smile.

"Sergeant Kelsey Champlain, Royal 22nd Regiment, now out of Vancouver with the government.  Honored to meet you Chief Williams.  Is there anything we can do for you?"

She kept her rifle slung back, not ready, and that white handkerchief is hanging out of a pocket still where she had not quite stuffed it away.  She knew that the native americans usually didn't respect women much, but she was hoping the weight of her former unit might gain her a little respect.

"Little Hawk, huh? Great to meet a fellow Indian, and a Ranger. What band are you?"

"Thanks for asking, Sergeant. Can't think of anything at the moment. Van Doo, eh? Ah, my friend, he got a little delayed picking up his gear on Barnston Island, but is going to be along any time now."

Mac and Andy had put into Barnston Is. to talk to the UBC team, but no one had mentioned an RV with someone who would be joining them.

Kelsey grins and nods in reply "Vingt-deuxième." she winks after showing off apparent fluency in French and pulls out a pack of smokes, taking one in her mouth and pulling out her worn zippo with the royal 22nd coat of arms (A crown and a beaver) on it.  She offers the pack. "Cigarette?"

From the same alley way as the four camouflaged men appeared a series of grunts and the odd expletive can be heard until a older man appears and stops next to the native patrol.

He is dressed in British issued BDU's, PLCE webbing and an assault vest. His helmet is strapped to his webbing and in it's place on his head is a green beret and anodised Royal Marines badge. He turns to the Chief Williams:

"This must be them, sorry I am late just got your message."

He slings his rifle before extending his hand as he steps forward:

"Thomas Andrews, Royal Marines we heard you would be arriving and its good to see you."

"No thanks, ah, Little Hawk. I hear your people had a hard time during the occupation. The Soviets couldn't understand why the First Nations wouldn't side with them. Anything we can do to help, just ask!"

He turned to motion Andrews forward. "Glad to see you made it, Corporal. He's been a great help, getting our Warrior Society organised for local defense. But he says he's been travelling with you now?"

It looked like there wasn't much more to say. The native Warriors and the band Chief prepared to move out.

"Oh, Andrews, we got your heavy weapons at the guard post across the bridge on the island. Want me to have someone run it over? The rest of your stuff, it'll be safe at my place until you can pick it up."

It was still a warm, sunny afternoon. It was probably going to be above 20 at least.

Re: Goin' on a Safari

In reply to Kelsey Sarah Champlain (msg # 744):

As they moved out, Chief Williams radioed the bridge roadblock and had them run over the rest of Andrews' kit. This was mainly his weapons and patrol gear, personal items were still being kept at his farm cottage on Barnston Island.

Andrew, Mac and Kel headed the couple blocks back to Ft. Langley. The old (well, reconstructed) Hudson's Bay Company trading post was on a slight rise that was fairly wooded. When they got to the visitor's gate it was unlocked and they went inside. Andrews saw that his friend, Old Willie, had made more improvements. Even more greenhouses were set up, growing a wide variety of fresh produce, even fruit.

Members of the Canadian Forces recce team were waiting by the "big house", the large building once the home of the HBC factor. Of course there was the old coot who occupied the fort, Old Willie. He was talking with a man dressed in the local RCMP uniform but with an AKSU slung across his chest and a Soviet style ammo harness. Along with him was a man dressed in British DPM fatigues, a fellow Royal Marine.

OOC: I would assume that Andrews and Williams know each other, but this is by no means certain as they had different jobs and were not necessarily ever in the same geographic area. Up to you if you'd like to be acquaintances! It would make things easier, of course.

"Thanks. I was on a sub off the coast further up north that was hit. We were sort of an ad hoc landing party put together at the last minute. Anyway seemed to hit land just as the Soviets decided they wanted a piece and have been moving South since."

"Chef Williams was good enough to let me pass off some training for food and board."
