Re: Safari II

The shock of being in the receiving end of a 100 mm round from a Main Battle Tank at almost point blank must be something really hard to recover. Conklin appeared to have been a lucky survivor. The poor elevation angle of the T-54's main gun probably saved his life. Still, he would be in need of some serious patching but the moment wasn't right.

Ok, just relax. We are not going anywhere for now. Keep low, brother!

Taras took the sniper rifle from the sniper's hands and gave him his AKSU. The sequence of shots fired previously kept the barrel quite warm. The smell of gunpower was still lingering in the weapon.

I'll return it to you in one piece!

A quick check of the chamber and magazine revealed a meager supply of ammo but Taras wouldn't dare to bother the poor gunny. With one round already chambered, the Staff Sargent adopted a prone position aiming at the intersection, safety off.

Taking the AK-74SU with his left hand, he slipped the sling over his head and shoulder, preparing to fire it 1-handed as it seemed his right arm wasn't functioning. As well, his eyes seemed to have trouble focusing and the pupils were dilated.

He slipped his left hand into his Ghillie suit and fished around, coming up with a pair of 10-round SVD magazines. "Here... For good luck... But now you gotta put out."

She brings her other arm up to check, and then flipping her selector to auto, she readies aim on the infantry from her current position, as soon as the rocket is aimed and fired, so as to distract the infantry from taking out her rocketeer, so he might get another shot, if need.

(100 M is reasonable rifle range, too far for a thrown grenade)

As they headed toward the school, Andy looked at the building to see how he would scale it. If they could get the Iltis into the courtyard and next to the building it would be simple to get on to the lower flat roof. From there it would be a quick dash to the upper floor that occupied the northwest corner of the building.

It should be simple for the two snipers to get onto the top flat roof and then get a view of the rear of the column.

As soon as he see the tank Andrews takes a knee.

"FIRING"

He puts the telescopic sight across the heavy armour and fires the weapon. He braces himself as the round leaves the tube.

Then realising the danger he was in he runs to the right and back into cover trying to put something between him and the tank. Only then does he reload the launcher.

The tank was coming back. If the crew was not buttoned up there was a good chance that Taras could get a shot at the driver or commander with the Dragunov. If they were hatched down then there was less possibility to be detected as they were in the ditch. If so, it could be easier to engage any supporting infantry.

Until the smoke screen between Taras and the intersection dissipated in a minute or so, he would be unable to see the tank, and vice-versa. It sounded like the tank was on the move, and the diesel exhaust gave evidence to this as it moved west to east on 56 Ave.

Re: Safari II

The wounded sniper was dragged aboard through the rear hatch with the assistance of Wayne, the driver. Then Taras climbed up into the small turret. Darek continued his measured firing bursts of 7.62mm from the coxial into the smoke in the middle of the road, and the trees, hedges and houses along the right. Shell casings rang as they were spit out onto the deck. The cramped compartment stank of cordite from the expended shells, it felt good to stick Taras' head out the hatch into the sunlight.

Outside, there was a thump and then an explosion as the smoke screen was starting to lift.

Not too far away, Andrews pressed his eye to the telescopic sight of the Carl Gustav. Without too much time to aim he took his best shot. There was a slap and roar as the rocket was spat out the front of the rifled steel launch tube with a flash and blossom of smoke. The powerful backblast stripped leaves and small branches from the surrounding bushes, trees and hedges.

The HEDP shell looked like it was in target, arcing in almost slow motion towards the tank. But just as it looked like it would strike, it continued on, just skimming past the left side of the rear hull, to explode somewhere behind and to the right of the tank.

The effect was still electric! The tank commander began swinging the Duhka mounted beside his hatch around to bear, and the tank itself swerved to the left, getting off the road (and likely getting set to ram the front of the store where Belanger and Hotel was holed up. The men riding on back bailed off, some into cover, some into the road. Those following the tank scattered, again on both sides of the road.

in the ditch on the south side of the road, Kelsey was a buffeted by the muzzle blast of the Carl Gustav being fired above and to her right. Andrews faded back towards the front of the house, getting out of view to reload. In a sense, the line of hedges and trees gave him and Tremblay more concealment than cover, so they were still vulnerable.

GM Note: You are on the south side of the road. The relative direction of the tank is to your left, that is, west. Some men are heading north (to the far side of the road) and south (towards the store, their nominal target).

It's not clear where everyone is on the south side of the road. There's not a lot of space there! Kel shouldn't really be in front of the Carl G. when it fires and certainly not BEHIND it! (Very strong backblast.) So I imagine that Kel is down in the ditch and Andrews is on one knee up behind the hedgeline, above and behind her so so speak, off to one side.

Andrews faded south, further back from the road. Tremblay was waiting with another HEDP round, ready to load. He unlocked the rear of the launcher, swinging that part of the tube and the now-hot venturi out of the way. He visually checked the breech, then slammed in another round, swinging the end closed and locking it.

Re: Safari II

While the Pole was hammering away with the coax Taras was trying to get a glimpse of the tank moving through the intersection. The smoke was slowly clearing, the menacing silhoette of the main battle tank could be clearly heard. The report of an antitank weapon was also felt in the ukrainian ears.

That must be them...

Confident that the Bishop element finally had joined the fight, Taras ducked inside the turret looking for a fresh shot of squash.

The tank must be there, Darek! Lets try to hit it again!

Now it was a matter of having the enemy's cavalry facing a double attack by bishop in front and knight in the flank.
