Undercover Operations
Tyler's cover was as a nominal bodyguard for a Russian arms dealer, Koldan (a former Soviet pilot and western intelligence asset until he was brought in). Together over the last month, they'd formed friendships and alliances with bikers, mercenaries, criminals and various hangers-ons in the uncontrolled territories south and east of the Fraser River. There were also pockets of farmers and other survivors, trying to make it day-by-day.
One thing there was not were government forces, no police or military patrols had yet officially swept the unpacified areas, although the odd CIA/CSIS intelligence operation (run by Capt. Belanger) had passed through on the way to the US border.
Right now, things looked pretty hairy. Over the last couple weeks, government forces (military and police) had raided and taken out bikers and their mercenary allies in various strongholds and hangouts, mainly close to the river and New Westminster, the government-allied community farthest east (as they were penetrating the Fraser River Valley from west to east, and north of the river).
The Hells Angels now numbered several hundred, plus dozens of mercenaries, but there were some crucial weaknesses in the organisation. A "Regional President" ("Brownstone") had arisen and taken out all the local club Presidents in a violent coup. But Brownstone had yet to consolidate his hold over the entire club, and really only commanded a large (20 member) chapter plus a couple dozen mercs (US, Canadian, former Soviet soldiers). Brownstone needed a solid win to consolidate control over the non-government areas and the various bikers, criminals, bandits and deserters/mercenaries that dwelt there. (This information is known by your controller, Belanger.)
Around noon, Koldan and Tyler were summoned to a safehouse in an abandoned suburb. There was a squad of 10 or so mercenaries there, with a few Hells Angels. There were bikes, cars, and a V-100 armoured car parked in the cul-de-sac. They were told to wait for orders and not to talk. But talk they did, and the rumour was that other HAs and mercs had tried to ambush a government patrol in the morning, but they failed to spring the trap. Now, word came over the radio (an advanced SINCGARS digital set, a better model than the Canadian military used) that government forces had been seen to the EAST, in the HA's "rear area". Forces were being scrambled to cut them off and take them out. Once that happened, he could consolidate control.
Tyler and his partner were in Tyler's red '67 Cougar, a gift from his dad. Unfortunately, while they waited, they had no chance to get to the radio and warn their controller of the situation. Further, the implication was if they didn't show their loyalty to Brownstone's faction (HA club chapter) it would not only not be appreciated but fatal.
A biker slammed open the door to the Surrey town home that was being used as a safe house. "We got 'em! Let's go, they're at 248 St and 56 Ave in Aldergrove! Mount up, we're reinforcements, come in from the south, east on Fraser Highway and then north up 248. Get a move on!
"Ty, Koldan, you follow us. Try and keep up, go in front of me 'cause I'll be last in the convoy."
The dozen plus mercs and bikers grabbed their guns, Kevlar vests and helmets, then streamed out the door to their waiting vehicles. Only a couple would ride bikes (and not Harleys but offroad bikes for recce), the rest would travel in the V-100, a Ford F150 technical mounting a .50-cal and a Jeep CJ. (First were 2 offroad bikes, then technical, the V-100, Cougar, with the Jeep last.)
