Re: Undercover Operations

Tyler says, "Okay, let's go.  I'll get in the ditch, and you take them from the street.  Wel'' get them in a crossfire."  Leaving Howard behind in the ditch but on alert, Tyler leads the Russian across 248 St. to the yahoos who'd been cheering on the tank, pausing between the two vehicles as if taking cover from observation or possible fire from the north.  Leaving Koldar by the forward vehicle and glancing south to see if anybody else has a line of sight to this position, Tyler drops down into the eastern ditch behind the mercs, as if to confer with them.

Re: Undercover Operations

In reply to Tyler Gabriel Hope (msg # 31):

Tyler and Koldan made it safely to the vehicles left in the middle of 248 St. Tyler then proceeded to the shallow ditch on the side of the road.

Unfortunately, Tyler could see at least two men further south, looking north towards the intersection of 248 and 56 Ave where the smoke rounds had gone off (not in the intersection itself but slightly to the north). No one seemed to be looking at him directly but he and Koldan had to have crossed their line of sight while transiting from one side of the road to the other. Where he lay in the ditch with the 2 men he was out of line of sight as long as they kept low.

He could immediately smell what these men were doing. "Want a hit, man?" The biker offered a joint. The man was wearing a black T-shirt under a LBE and Kevlar vest, blue jeans and a Nylon helmet. A bushy brown beard shot with grey covered his face where the helmet didn't. "Takes the edge off. That tank's fuckin' gone, I suggest we do the same, eh?" He was armed with an M16A2, as was his companion. His companion looked more like a mercenary, if only that he was wearing US BDUs.

Re: Undercover Operations

Tyler replies, "Yeah. you do that."  He then raises the suppressed Beretta Koldar had given him and fires a double tap at the mercenary first, thinking the biker would be a little less likely to react as quickly (both because of lack of training and discipline, and because he is probably more under the influence of the cannabis).  If the merc falls, he then fires a shot at the biker.  Otherwise he fires again at the bearded man.  "Howard!  Marker!" he calls, bringing the dog to alert.

Re: Undercover Operations

In reply to Tyler Gabriel Hope (msg # 33):

Because he couldn't bring the pistol up to use his sights, Tyler fired 2 shots at his head (because the vest protected his torso) but both missed. The next shot found its mark and he switched his aim to the biker, who (in slow motion) had dropped the roach and was grabbing for his own pistol, rifle forgotten. Tyler's next 2 shots went wild and he saw the other man yank his own pistol out and begin to bring it up. It was s nickel-plated Colt M1911. Koldan fired a burst from his Skorpion while he waited behind the vehicles in the road, and miracle of miracles, a red wound blossomed on the thigh of the biker's blue jeans! He fell backwards, pistol in hand, injured.

Tyler thought that this would probably attract a little too much attention from the nearby watchers, but at this time, MG rounds started zipping down the road. Someone to the north was firing down the street, although who was firing was concealed by a smoke screen. This caused the men to the south of them to duck their heads and look for cover. At this time, Tyler could hear the roar of the tank engine behind him.

"Holy shit! Someone's firing at us!"

Skorpion in one hand, AKS-74U in the other, Koldan sprinted the rest of the way across the road and landed in the ditch beside Tyler, Howard and the 2 men.

"Did I get him?"

Re: Undercover Operations

Meanwhile, Mac pulled into the parking lot of the Blueberry Creek Community School. He was successfully able to manoeuvre the Iltis into the courtyard, where it was beneath the edge of an overhang that would allow them to get on the roof.

Somewhere to the north, an MG started firing, but from where they were they couldn't see anything.

"Right," said Mac, parking up. "You coming onto the roof?"

Slinging his rifle, he scrambled up, reaching up to pull himself onto the roof and staying low as he crawled across to peer towards the action.

Re: Undercover Operations

"Roger that," Andy said.

He slung his rifle and pulled himself up onto the roof. He was surprised, as usual, by how much nature had reclaimed the flat roof. Dirt had gathered in the guttering and the weeds that had gathered there had caused more airborne soil to gather behind these barriers.

He crawled quickly to the higher roof section. Hopefully it would mask them for now but their next assent would put them at risk of observation.

Re: Undercover Operations

In reply to Tyler Gabriel Hope (msg # 40):

The biker was wounded in the thigh and lying back, eyes closed. Tyler was forced to lean over him to put the suppressor against his cheek for the kill shot. Otherwise, his vest or helmet would protect him. As the muzzle brushed his skin, his eyes opened and he looked up at Tyler, fearfully.

"Oh no no no no, please, don't don't do it, I never killed no one man don't do it please I got a family I got a wife and kids please please please don't kill me..." He jerked convulsively as the bullet sheared through bone and mushroomed in his brain tissue. He sighed, warm breath caressing Tyler's face, then immediately became still. Beneath his staring eyes was a small black hole on his right cheek. There was a stench as his bowels let go.

In reply to Tyler Gabriel Hope (msg # 40):

Looking over, eyes wide, Koldan said, "holy shit... hard core, man." He finished reloading the Skorpion and cocked it. "What we do now?"

The odd bullet still skimmed down the road. They could hear the tank behind them somewhere near  the intersection of 56 Ave and 248 st to the north. It was getting noticeably louder, like it was coming east down 56 Ave.

Re: Undercover Operations

Up on the school to the south, at the intersection of 248 St and 54 Ave, there was bad news. The roof was covered in patches of moss, even grass, so it wasn't that loud on the gravel. It was clear when they pulled themselves up that clumps of trees on the corner and along 248 st blocked their LOS to ground level along 248 St.

Above the intervening trees and terrain, they could see a cloud of white smoke from a smoke screen laid somewhere near the corner of 56 Ave and 248 St., A plume of black diesel exhaust as a large vehicle (likely the tank) moved east along 56 Ave towards the corner where Belanger and Hotel were pinned down.

Looking unsure, Koldan nodded. "I understand. You first, comrade."

He made sure his AKS-74U was securely slung, and then held his Skorpion at low-ready.

Koldan handed over 2 magazines. "Sub-sonic." He rummaged around the bodies at their feet and came up with a couple more, as the merc had a 9mm Beretta in a drop-holster. "2 more, regular."

Re: Undercover Operations

The ditch drained south to a forested stream-bed running east-west. A grated culvert led under the road. It was still clogged by debris and a large whirlpool had collected there. Dark water swirled and gurgled, over rounded stones. A few slippery-looking rocks peeped To pass by it they would either need to detour deeper east into the woods or move out into the road.

Koldan looked over at Tyler, then down at where the dammed-up stream pooled at the partially-blocked culvert entrance.

"Well. Are we going right, onto the road, or left into the woods?"

OOC: Tyler still has the RPG, spare rockets in a backpack, suppressed Beretta and CAR-15? Quite the load...

"Right," said Mac, swinging down to ground level and loping off towards the trees. He looked carefully to pick one that was both easily climbed and which should afford a good view.

Re: Undercover Operations

In reply to Christopher Little Hawk MacDonald (msg # 53):

Mac was able to swing down from the roof without killing himself, then proceeded to run across the road. Climbing a fence, he ran across a wide (and overgrown) grass lawn until he reached a medium-sized tree that was overhanging 248st. He scrambled up into the branches, and although he wasn't very high (maybe 3-4m) it brought him over the fence to where he could observe 248st, where there were engine sounds and people yelling.

He saw several vehicles moving out and up the road, heading north. In the lead was a V-100 armoured car, followed by a technical (armoured pickup truck with M60 mounted on a post with a gunshield) with a Jeep coming up the rear.

Where they were, Tyler and Koldan heard those same vehicles approaching them. They were currently in a noticeable dip or hollow in the road on the east side, in something of a depression that followed the stream.
