Re: OOC4
In reply to helbent4 (msg # 67):
They have "bread" in them, as well as honey, tea, and a bunch of other stuff that actually tastes good. They put corn in the beef stew, for example, as well as other vegetables, and they aren't one consistancy: mush.
As opposed to MRE's, which taste like the package, and are the same consistency going in as they are going out.
I use them at Pennsic, because it ensures that I don't have to eat things prepared by people who don't know how to camp, when I'm not back at my camp. Since I do a lot of things, like first aid or fighting, and the site is a half mile by a quarter mile, it means I can throw a meal in my bag in the morning, and have lunch on me wherever I am when it's time to eat. They save me from a lot of "quality" time in a port-a-john in early August, in Pennsylvania. There have been years where it's 125F in the shade.
The water at Pennsic has a high iron content, so it causes gastro-intestinal distress for some folks. I try to avoid that, too.
