Dawn broke. The animal and insect life of the green Fraser Valley awoke as the sky became lighter. It was still a cool and dewy morning as the team made breakfast.

"You guys grab some grub. I'll stand watch while you do.

"We got some eggs, ham, bread, potatoes, veggies and butter from the farmers in Aldergrove. See if we can't make some kind of breakfast from that, huh?"

Breakfast was cooked over camp stoves. It was hearty and delicious. At around 0900 it became obvious that no one was coming.

Getting ready to mount up again, Darek mentioned to Taras, "you know, my friend, we really need some kind of intelligence about planned smuggling. We could stay here and set a watch for days.

"Do we know of anyone that might be able to give us information on what's going on across the border? Specifically criminal activity. Because for all we know, we might accidentally light up someone just looking to do some trading."

Comms were established with unit HQ at UBC.

The response was that there was an undercover asset, "Gearbox", that had established a cover ID as an arms dealer and black marketeer in the Fraser Valley area.

"Gearbox" was the code name for Koldan, the former Russian pilot and CIA/CSIS asset. He and Tyler, the young American paratrooper-turned-mercenary (ahem, "armed contractor") were living on a farm in Port Kells (Surrey) on the border with Langley. Along with them lived Tyler's dog, Howard Hawks.

Ahh.. those smart Aeroflot types! hehehehe... I guess is time to pay a visit to our old friend!

Kelsey looks irritably at a confection in her ration and then smiles.

"Ah.  Koldan, good show."

Thomas is glad of the tea after the long night. He accepts the cup and uses it to warm his hands before taking a sip and letting it warm his insides. He stays standing with his rifle over his shoulder as the others talk about what to do next.

Thomas is not from around here and has not been with the unit long enough to recognize any of the names so he stays silent with his tea.

Still at the radio, Darek replied, "I have the information to contact him via radio. What time shall I say we will be arriving?"

Dang! I don't know! Is Surrey right? Should not take long. If he's on the radio we can provide updates!

Keith checked his watch. "It`s 0930 now. It could take us maybe thirty minutes. Darek, I'll use the radio. See if they're awake."

After several minutes calling, Keith got Tyler on the radio. They were home, and were happy to receive visitors in about a half-hour or so.

Davayets! Off we go! It's going to be fun to meet the tovarisch and Tyler again!

"Ok. Looking at the map, it's not too far. It's in Surrey, on the border with Langley. Close to the Trans-Canada.

"Want to take the Trans-Canada again? If someone is keeping tabs on us, we are taking that route a lot and that could mean an ambush. Otherwise, uh, I guess there's Fraser Highway west through Langley township, then north on 200 street."

Like most of the Fraser valley south and east of the river, Langley was a farming community with a township at the centre. One they had not yet visited.

Abbot had a cup of tea and a full stomach.  He enjoyed the cool peaceful morning from his watch position on top of the customs building.

Stanley finished his tea and climbed down with his gear.  He walked to the Humvee and stowed it in back.

Lets take Fraser hwy. then. Better be not too predictabe.

"OK. Looks to be about thirty klicks. We haven't pioneered the route yet. Should take us about an hour. We'll be going through the middle of Langley city centre."
