Re: OOC5: Son (or Daughter) of OOC

Ok.  Since Taras has designated Abbott as the team lead; he's probably going to want to see some initiative in planning the patrol.  Here is his tentative plan.

Our route will start out taking the 10 down to Langley and then east on the Frazer Hwy  to Aldergrove where we drop off the lady vet.  We stop and check out her place to make sure everything is secure.

If everything is good there, we turn south and zigzag along the streets (256 and 272) that parallel hwy 13 to the border crossing where we take a look around to see what the situation is there.

Then we head back up 13 north to King rd and turn west.  We continue west to either 208 or 200 then turn north through Langley to connect back to the 10 north and back hone to the Fort.

We can make some minor twists and turns as necessary to make contact with as many citizens as possible to collect intel and fly the flag so to speak.

We can designate about a dozen or so map locations as checkpoints in advance to call in so that we can update the Fort on our progress as we go or they can be rally points if something somehow goes wrong.

Edit:  In light of the lack of recon in Langley, we can change it up.  We follow the first part of the plan to drop off the doc at Aldergrove.  Then we go west back up the Frazer Hwy.  We get off at 40th ave. There, we will be able to choose between either 40th ave or Old Yale rd. heading west to 208st or 200st north through Langley and then to Hwy 10 north to the Fort.

Basically looking for people living along the areas contemplated in that route. You may come across farmers, traders, fire coming out of a chimney... More a meet and greet rather than a border patrol.

How does CASTLE know that there were 6 horse mounted passing there and why weren't we briefed on that?

In reply to Stanley Alistair Abbot (msg # 968):

Fair question. I gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and so assumed Mac passed this information along, therefore Abbott did as well. CASTLE was just summarising your SITREP.

This only goes so far; retroactive actions like this will not necessarily be valid on this basis unless I agree or make it clear it's ok.

I did say "Six riders, maybe more" when reporting in from tracking, so the other could have passed it on!

Re: OOC5: Son (or Daughter) of OOC

A slight correction. The terrain on Zero Road by the border is much flatter than I realised. The hills in this area are low enough you can still see for over a thousand meters. While the forest on both sides does start up about 1 km from the border post LOS down the road itself is relatively unobstructed.

This is what it looks like now. The USA is on the left. In 2001 imagine taller weeds and trees are more grown out after a few years of neglect.

In reply to Stanley Alistair Abbot (msg # 973):

Fair point. To reassure you, your characters will not be punished by the wrath of an angry GM if you do not go that particular way. And this is just what it is like near the border crossing, it might well get more closed-in further west.

The suggestion from Taras is to maybe send Mac at some point (either now or later) to do a foot recce. If he precedes your detachment (element) it can be combined as route recce. But if not, no big deal.

(Also ,as a matter of local terminology Avenues are referred to as X Ave, e.g. 16 Ave (i.e. no "-th"). As well, I've never heard of 16 Ave referred to as King road although it indeed does appear that way on the map.

When I heard that the "world's deadliest sniper" was headed to Ukraine I thought it was hyperbole. Then I realised they were talking about a legend who served in JTF-2 in Afghanistan and Iraq and it made sense. Give 'em hell, Wali!

That man probably had a bounty put on his head the moment he stepped foot in Ukraine.  It would be best that nobody knew he is there.  On the other hand, after a few sniper hits, any russian who gets sniped could be rumored to be killed by him. Could turn into a PSYOP thing.

In reply to Stanley Alistair Abbot (msg # 979):

It doesn't seem like assassinating Putin is realistic.

Operationally, it would absolutely be best if the Russians didn't know who he was and that he was coming. That's your basic NATO-style OPSEC. Wali is a bit of a showboat in my opinion although I do cut him some slack because he doesn't come across as a psycho or macho douchebag. He has already written a book about his experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq and is aware of his brand. His face is already out there for better or worse, and he's been interviewed so the OPSEC ship has sailed. The Ukrainians are probably very happy to have him and likely think if he can't be a secret weapon he can be used to boost morale on their side and panic the Russians.

No problem. I had the same experience, I had a post done and went to dinner and my stupid computer downloaded a "communicative security update." and then restarted. Yes it can be enough to give up for a few days.

Yeap I’ve had RPOL eat my posts as both a player and GM.

It’s Frustrating.

Came across a video or a pair of soilders, one ex-British Army, and the other ex-US Army Airborne regarding their kit and tactics used in Ukraine.
