Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Gabino begins to float upwards as a rest mist permeates the air all around, going quiet. His blood seems to be totally removed, yet he remains contorted in his final struggle. A thrum begins to resound in the earth, and the machine parts begin to move.

Prime once more begins to course in the machine, and lights of some sort begin to blink all around. They are a dim, hellish red casting against flashing runes on the wall. The thrum begins to pound faster and faster, rattling the ground itself. Shi comes close to her, taking her in his arms. Fear is in his heart, and his hands grasp her hard.

They watch as the machinery begins to change... almost morph in the blackout periods. The machine all around begins to take on a more organic appearance. The scales and shiny black remind her of some amalgamation of reptile scales, the colors of that of a wet beetle. Portions of the complex begin to fill in with coiling spires rising up randomly in the ground. They make a rich, oily, grinding sound as they come looking like two, black, scaly spears that have intertwined with their sharp ends hooked toward each other. A dim, white light appears between the points, screams echoing in the chamber.

All in all, the two see the chamber is colossal in size and scope, though the shorter ceiling retains the feeling of claustrophobic space. The red lights begin to turn to a pale, white and the runes disappear. For the amount of lights in the area they are surprisingly dim, offering little in the sense of visibility. Still, they can see the lights carry on for what could be thousands of feet... just how large is this place?

Before they can answer, though, Gabino begins to move. The pillar they had seen earlier, one of the larger ones, is one of many. It suddenly bursts with a glorious light, one of crisp, white prime. A powerful, powerful node has suddenly burst into existence and she can sense it's feedback course through the once dead ley lines she could not previously sense.

Blood begins to course in thick rivulets and veins in the floor with many black tendrils clawing up through the air into Gabino.

The room goes black, and a smell of wet rust billows through the chambers. The air grows excruciatingly heavy, making it difficult to breathe. She can feel Shi's heart hammering in his chest, and his teeth chatter. He senses something...

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
When the lights begin to turn on again the prime font has dimmed, but where Gabino was is another entity entirely.

The veins and tubes retract, and a reborn evil stirs. The metal-demon stands as the white-spear-spires scream again, souls consumed within their vacuous void.

I live.

It turns its head toward the two magi.

You have done what I asked. To each of you I will allow one boon, one... heart's... desire.

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Seeing Gabino defeated, Lucy dismisses her weapon with a sigh of relief. However, her relief is short-lived. She is visibly disconcerted by the changes around her, and grasps one of Shi's hands in her own for support. With her eyes darting in every direction, she takes in the activity around her, and then looks fearfully into Shi's eyes. She begins to question her decision to use this device, and her apprehension only grows when she sees the being that re-purposed Gabino's body. But all of her fears are not enough to stop her from blurting out a desperate response to his question,

I want Susan back!

And in a whisper, she excitedly addresses Shi,

And now you can regain your soul! This is what we always wanted, right?

She realizes that Susan would probably have approached this situation more warily and tried to gather additional information about the consequences of her actions before committing to anything, but Lucy was always one to wear her heart on her sleeve. She'll find out soon enough if this was all some horrible mistake...

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Then you agree to the requisite conditions you were given. Bask in the glory of my power, for this forge lives after epochs of silence. Once the machinations of this bastion marched against God and the Host... but first... a humble task for mortalkind...

Lucy feels something tug at her soul followed by a strange, artificial sound. It is deep bass that rapidly rises then falls in pitch, fuzzy on its edges. A whirring, chugging sound rapidly gains speed and the air thickness drops into a breathless ionic vacuum. The image of her avatar is near her, though in the other world. It responds with a tilt of its head at the reveal of its location, the barrier between worlds surgically opened. The machine rises to a fevered pitch, the thrumming hammering into the ground.

Long, inky-black, carapace-sheathed arms appear to come out of the ground and grapple her avatar. Soft, pliable black joints line the length of the limbs at varying one or three foot lengths, each one with organic rivets, vented pads, and other nodules and tubes. Each is as black as sin, shining with an oily sheen. The avatar struggles some, her eyes open wide in terror. The machines hiss and pound all around, likely forcing the two mages to cover their ears.  Thick heaving pumps erupt from the earth, pushing between the arms. A mucus-like fluid begins pouring out, covering the spirit in a rapidly gelatinizing material. The arms move, spider like, to keep the gelatin in a sphere shape as it coagulates.

When fully thickened, the sphere is brought closer to the floor, cradled in the dread arms. Shi starts, five horseshoe-crab-like hellions crawling on the floor, their rear ends consisting of an intestine-like tube trailing behind it. They scuttle to the sphere, attaching themselves to its surface. Long, barbed needles push into the gelatin to the avatar, all moving simultaneously and reaching the avatar's surface at a single moment.

The avatar opens its mouth to scream when a white fluid pumps through the tubes, into the crabs, then assumedly into the needles. The sphere suddenly becomes white, its surface hardening like glass.

The universe and its secrets immediately withdraw from Lucy's soul, and a deep, deep emotional pain takes hold of her. The spark is gone.

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Steps crunch on the earth, Shi shivering. No...

A beautiful man comes into the light, his movements fluid, his steps well timed. Not a speck of dust appears upon his clothes or his face. Even as the machine whirs and thrums he appears wholly immovable. In his presence Shi's blade hums.

The great demon in the room does not flinch at the person's presence. Acolyte, my dearest acolyte...

His words are like honey, words Shi struggles against. You would break our bond.

As he speaks, the syllables pulse in the blade. Indeed, one could rapidly discern that the voice truly speaks from the blade. What the figure is before them is unknown, but likely some apparition. You will complete the contract.

I will do what I wish!

Then savage the bond. Do it, you mewling suckling.

I shall! I...

He looks upon the orb, the swirling, milky fluid containing the dead energies of the source of Lucy's power. Such a sacrifice...

Child. You will complete the contract, then I shall release you.

Shi looks into his own two hands, clenching them.

Lucy falls on all fours and begins to sob loudly. Her loss is more painful than she could have imagined. But she tells herself that she must endure it. After all she is only losing a piece of herself, whereas Susan lost it all. She only half pays attention to the new face, as her eyes are glued to the sphere where her avatar is being eradicated.

It slowly occurs to her that this man must be Shi's master. When the connection is made, she immediately spits at his feet as his image approaches.

Shi doesn't belong to you. You can't just bully people around! He won't obediently follow anyone's commands. He is his own master!

Looking up at Shi through blurry eyes, she continues,

So what do you want to do, Shi?

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
The orb hums loudly, a loud, bass-thrumming sound pounding the complex.

-=BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWW=-

White-hot prime lightning fires off from the nearby pillars, casting themselves against the highly reflective orb. They caress its surface, flaring with the ear-bursting sound resonating over and over.

-=BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWW=-

A klaxxon begins to fire off, a sound totally alien to Lucy. A mid-tone 'woon-woon-woon' accompanies the white lights flashing on and off, bursting bright then rapidly dimming. Magog raises his arms, reveling in the power hammering this plane of existence.

-=BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWW=-

The arms around the globe begin to constrict, the globe squealing under the pressure. Lucy and Shi, despite their efforts, would find themselves thrown to their hands and knees. The rattling begins to sink into their bones, their eyes finding difficulty focusing, their sense of balance shattered.

-=BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWW=-

The sphere breaks, chunks of opaque glass flying about, the rattling and thrumming of the complex finally dying down. The white gelatin is now merely as milk, splashing all over the black ground like white-wash. Magog approaches the sphere, his footsteps like thunder. His immense, heavy form moves with frightening ease and he raises an arm to the orb.

He casts his hand upward...

A figure begins to rise out of the fluid, the substance falling away like water from oil. A pulsing vibration sinks into the floor.

The room grows dim, though a dim white light still blinks above the shattered egg.

Magog steps back, allowing Lucy to approach.

The figure does not move.

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Lucy shows her disappointment in Shi with pursed lips and downcast, tearful eyes. But she assumes that he has his reasons. For instance, maybe it's not safe to sacrifice his avatar with his master present? Theoretically, he can always make the deal later...

Are you sure about this, Shi?

But then Susan rises, and all such thoughts are pushed from her mind. After all, her redemption stands before her.

Susan?

The chamber of horrifying sights, the creepy machine man, the pain of her lost avatar, Shi's hesitation, and the apparition of Shi's master don't seem to matter anymore. Without rising to her feet she she scrabbles quickly across the floor on her hands and knees, climbing over the remains of Susan's egg. Then she springs forward like a cat, jumping into Susan's arms with a giddy laugh.

Susan!

In her enthusiasm she forgets to temper her strength. The force of her leap should be enough to tackle Susan to the ground. Her tears continue to flow, but they are now tears of joy and relief. Lucy starts to feel like this is some kind of wonderful dream, and one exultant thought keeps racing through her mind: My Susan is finally back!

Susan does embrace Lucy, falling to the floor with her. She clutches onto Lucy, almost as if she were about to fall...

I See You.

A voice echoes in her mind, and she feels the eyes of a predator upon her. The Weaver will come and slay her and it occurs to Lucy that no matter where she goes, the Weaver will hunt and kill her.

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
The facility begins to light up red, Magog reaching his hand out. A thrum begins to hammer into the facility, and the feeling of imminent dread is gone. Magog's outstretched hand begins to collect silvery strands, millions dancing across his fingers, disappearing and reappearing until one is left.

He tilts his hand, palm upward until the threads connect to Lucy. He clenches his hand, strands exploding around her head into a sort of cosmic halo. Each moment that passes, strands begin to disappear, one by one.

So. You have desired to usurp the will of a god to bring your most valuable treasure back at the cost of your own power. Such noble sacrifice.

He tilts his head down, the lights flashing red. He clenches his other hand, more silvery strands appearing. However, as time passes, many turn a golden white. So. You fancy yourself a Weaver of fate in our absence. You dare slink into my realm to disject your filthy messages into my ward.

I defy you, "weaver", as I defied powers beyond your reckoning.

One of the prime pillars begins to split apart, revealing a "woman" inside. Her ivory skin is riddled with lines across her various biological hemispheres, filled with segments, nodules, and other alien seams. She sits, straddling a round machine between her legs, black as the rest of the room, a ribbed tube running from its crown into her parted lips. Her "hair" appears as a mass upon her shoulders and back, a solid, heavily ribbed mass that gleams under the white light. Waves of prime shudder through it, directing power into her head and down into the device she straddles.

Her arms reach out, fingers moving delicately, the various strands of fate tied to Lucy coming into being. The machine rattles and groans, the lines, ephemeral at first, are birthed into sight. Magog directs a silvery thread from Lucy's halo into her hands. She draws her hands in and the pillar closes once again, glowing red now. The screams of the dead begin to swell in the air, and the strand is pulled into it. When the strand disappears entirely, he reaches forward and touches one of the thousands of dying strands around Lucy, then draws his finger back.

Sparks fly from his clawed, armored fingertip as a new, golden strand begins to form.

I shall reforge her fate from yours. But here she shall be no more. I shall hide her in my own strand of fate, separate from the prying eyes of a vengeful god.

Susan finally speaks, gasping. Lucy! Be careful! I almost fell!

Lucy knows Susan's time here is short, but her mission is fulfilled. Though Magog may have defied the actions of the Weaver out of rebellion, his acts may have saved Susan from an untimely fate. How cruel, though, that the Weaver still denies the two total happiness together.

Lucy grips Susan tighter as it becomes clear that she is about to be ripped from her again.

Susan, oh Susan! You did fall, but you're alright now. This must seem like a bad dream to you, but it's really happening. The full situation is too complicated to explain right now, but the bottom line is that we're going to be separated. A powerful being, the Weaver, wants you dead. She thinks you're dangerous for some cockamamie reason! This man here, he's going to protect you from her, but it means that we're going to have to be separated. Oh this must sound like complete nonsense to you...

She looks over her shoulder at Magog, and desperately asks,

Thank you for bringing Susan back, and for protecting her too. And even though I don't understand exactly what you're going to do, couldn't you hide Susan, me, and Shi-- together?

No, child. Your soul is cursed. You are a shining beacon, and to illuminate Susan would spell her rapid demise. I shall instead forge her fate anew, so that she may be forced to comb the billion, trillion fates for her. Your mortal life is so short that she may slip by unnoticed, dying an old, peaceful death.

Take heart, she lives child. If all mortals had your propensity for such tenacious courage and fortitude, and love... this world may have been different.

He looks down, thinking. You, man.

Magog crosses his mighty arms, Shi looking up. If you shall not shatter your bonds, perhaps you would be willing to break her curse. Feed my great machine, cast fuel into its belly, so that it may shatter her bonds.

Lucy's disappointment at Magog's denial of her plea is plain to see on her face. Her ongoing tears intermittently drop from her chin onto Susan's face below her. With a shaky voice, she says,

Oh, I see. So undoing the Weaver's spell takes as much energy as it does to bring the dead back to life...

She looks down at Susan with an apologetic moue. Then she faces Shi as he justifies his refusal to use the great machine. She nods as she replies,

Shi, I could never ask more of you than you've already given. I am surprised that you don't want your soul back, but I wouldn't wish for you to experience this overwhelming emptiness. When Susan died, it tore a gaping hole in my heart. This feels very similar...

She glances at Susan, wondering if she's said too much. Then she looks back to Shi and continues,

Anyway, don't fret about it. You know what they say: There's more than one way to skin a cat. We'll figure something out.

Then, staring into Susan's eyes, she promises,

No one, not even the Weaver, can keep us apart forever...

Magog extends his hand outward. Child of mine, you will carry this knowledge only for a short time longer. I am pleased you recognize your companion. She has gone through much to bring you here.

Who are you?

I am Magog and all this... is Gog, The Machine, The Spark, the Legion Forger. You were once dead. Susan pauses, taking in the hellish environment, but another memory takes form. Her eyes glass over, putting a hand to her lips.

... I was on... I was on the fire escape...

Magog interrupts. You perished, but now live again. Your companion, Lucy the Indomitable, your savior above all others, traversed the limits of Creation to return you here. When denied she found me. The power she had to acquire was sacrificed to reforge your soul and body.

Susan holds Lucy tighter. You will not remember this meeting soon. The same power that forbade your existence would slay you if found... so I must hide you away. From one of Lucy's own fates I have forged a new future for you.

I... I don't understand...

Our time has come to an end.

Lucy has time for some parting words.

Re: Eroom Nasus fo Srepsihw
Lucy's mouth twists in anguish as she tries to silence her crying while Susan speaks with Magog. When he proclaims that their time is up, she feels an awful wrenching in her heart. Lucy clutches Susan tightly and wails loudly as hot tears drip onto Susan's left shoulder.

Ahhhh-- hahahhhhhhh... Susan, I'm sorry, so sorry... for everything. This is all my fault...

She takes time to sniff noisily.

I-- I didn't want it to... be this way.

But we have to say goodbye again. And I guess you won't even remember this!

She laughs raucously, then wails some more. With her voice repeatedly cracking, she continues,

Oh, Susan, this is-- this is so hard... But you're going to be OK; that's the important part. I want you to live a wonderful life, to be happy. I'll catch up with you someday; that's a promise!

She nods her head over and over, trying to convince herself of her bold words. Then turning her head to look over her shoulder, she addresses Magog,

Thank you, mister, for this... opportunity. Just seeing her alive again is more than I deserve! And you made it possible; you performed the impossible. And thank you too, Shi! None of this would have come to pass without you...

The she holds Susan's head in her hands with the urgency of the dying, and stares into her eyes. In a low voice she fervently states,

Susan, I know you won't remember this. This must all be like some kind of nightmare to you! But for me, it's a dream come true...

Oh, I know you won't remember this, but I want you to know that I love you. Just know in your heart that I am always with you, just like you're always with me.

She draws Susan's head near, and forcefully plants a drawn-out kiss on her forehead.

I will come back to you; this separation is not forever... I love you so much...

I love you too! Referring to when Lucy said it was her fault, she shakes her head. A howl begins to form in the air, and Susan has to nearly scream to speak to Lucy. Whatever it was, it wasn't your fault! I forgive you! Whatever it was! Best friends! Best friends forever and ever!

The pillar opens up, and a golden thread pours out from the hands of the "woman" inside. As Susan fades more and more, the thread floats outwards into the air. Time seems to slow, sound becomes nothing more than a muffled mumble. As the thread passes him, he reaches out and plucks it...

It makes a happy, single note, vibrating more and more until it fades. The lights immediately dim.

Susan is gone.

As she continues to regain her senses, she feels the pain of the medical procedure that was done to her while she was unconscious. She works her jaw a little in an attempt to wet her parched mouth and lips. She grasps Gary's hand in her own, and gives him a weak smile.

Gary, my love, it felt like I was a million miles away. It felt like another lifetime...

Virgilio sends his regards, you rat!

Gary scarcely has time to respond as the thunder of gunfire erupts, and Lucy only has a few moments to see a fair-looking, fedora-donning gangster and his drum-fed Thompson. Gary's body erupts with bullet holes, as does Lucy's. She feels the stinging impact of bullets striking her with incredible force.

Gary falls on her, blood all over the white sheets, mingling with shattered glass. She feels no pain, her body going into shock. She feels colder by the second, her heart beating erratically. Her body struggles to stay alive desperately. After a few moments of confusion, she can see a thread hanging diagonally from floor to ceiling. A portion in the center glows brightly, then bursts, casting each side into the air.

Lucy, Gary, and her unborn child die.
