One morning, after her husband leaves for work, Elizabeth visits for a chat. After she does, Susan receives a visit from Lucy Hayes.

Lucy Hayes is an indication that, though Susan lived for several years, her fate is beginning to unravel. Susan's fate may have been wrought from Magog, but it is far from perfect.

As it would turn out, it would be the Benefactor that had Rory brought to Susan's home. Ordering Gary to bring Rory to the apartment, he arrives to pretend to silence the man by mock killing him in front of Susan.

It would seem whatever organization the Benefactor runs, he has need of Gary. With Rory as a plant, laying low in the apartment, he keeps an eye on the mysterious Susan Moore.

One such quasi-hallucination has Susan keeps her late after work, away from Gary's eyes. As the pressure to mind his own empire mounts, his organization allows him the option to eradicate Susan. Though he does not, he falls to abuse behaviors to try to keep things under control.

Unfortunately for him, his wife in another fate, Madame Moore, discovers this and kills her husband in that timeline. She begins the process of eradicating Gary, hoping to detangle his fate from Susan's, though even this is to the Weaver's will. She is aided by Guiseppe Romero, both convinced their organization has become too intertwined with local crime family, The Virgilios, in Chicago. She contacts Tobias, a gangster associate disgruntled with Gary, to supply weapons for an assault one one of their money laundering facilities to weaken the family and harm Gary's influence. What Tobias and his mutineers didn't know is that Lucy was aware it was, in fact, a drug creation facility for Black Salt.

Meanwhile, Gary tries to woo Susan into his work, to keep a better eye on her, demonstrating the responsibility and clout he wields. Having found out she works at the bank his previous launderer worked, he tries to persuade her to step in that role. This fails, and he returns home to drink.

The dinner conversation is followed by a paradox backlash, and a thread of Madame Moore's fate coalesces with Susan's following a similar dinnertime. In another fate Mrs. Moore fails to convince her husband to kill The Benefactor and end the relationship with local criminals. The individuals, location, and circumstance fuses several tangential fates into one amalgamation that plague Susan with nightmares.

Susan is immediately assaulted by Gary when she arrives home. After nearly dying, Rory tells her that the operation is collapsing; this is made all the more clear when Gary decides to literally chain her to the apartment.

I'm one of many fates that joined the shadowy group called the Technocracy. In fates I exist, I had betrayed my love, Shi, sacrificing him to Gog to bring Susan back. Under the employ of the Technocracy, my grand intellect and aptitudes retained, I embrace the idea that I am an agent for the world's betterment. I extend this to Susan, and rather than heed the warning of The Machine, I also try to better Susan's life. Unfortunately, the Technocracy has sent a small team to the very city that contains the Machine I used to return Susan.

Things are getting out of control. This is about damage control now. At any cost.

This whole thing's fucked, and I'm tired of playing these games. Sometimes I'm talking to Susan, sometimes it's to Lucy. I'm pretending to be under Lucy's control, but really I'm at the whims of the Benefactor. Lucy thinks she can tackle the freaks amongst the Virgilios by going rogue, but when the time's right I'll slip the noose and boss will kick the chair.

Lucy, furious at Gary's stubbornness, harmonizes strongly with Susan, whom is outraged at her treatment, in a thread where she procures a poison to kill Gary. While there, Lucy picks up the firearms to distribute to Tobias.

After retrieving the poison from Romero, she contacts Tobias, sets the time and place, informs him she may be suffering from a form of amnesia, and that the plan will continue regardless.

She brings the poison and weapons home, then pens a note to herself to not eat the stew using the code phrase "extra vegetables" to indicate arsenic trioxide. As the paradox backlash settles and fate-threads continue to separate Susan hallucinates that she sees Lucy "leaving" while she remains.

Gary returns home, consuming the soup during her fugue. Unfortunately, he dies there before Susan after finally admitting his desire to escape this life.

The Benefactor removes his corpse, leaving Susan alone for a time, also mourning the death of his closest ally and friend.

Late in the evening she's visited by Sarah Brooks. Sarah, also a widow whose husband dies mysteriously constructing a building near downtown, Westinghouse Tower, decides to join Susan in learning how to shoot. Visited by Elizabeth the next morning on a Saturday, Susan finds the weapons cache, complete with date and time, while searching for firearms to practice with. Rory arrives, and the four get some practice in.

The next day Susan decides to get answers by first investigating the firearms note. Unbeknownst to her, Tobias was Gary's right hand man before Rory. Tobias kills Donald, an associate of Gary's that Susan met at the club, indicating that a purging has begun. Romero gives Susan a hard time, filling her head with doubt, when to his surprise Madame Moore appears. As the Weaver continues to cull Susan and Lucy from existence, she spins two threads together.

Donald won't be the only casualty, and the plan to take one of the Virgilio's holdings, a speakeasy called Fernidad's, begins. However, as they descend it becomes rapidly apparent that someone else has been here. Those they intended to fight are dead, barring two. Both are under the control of spirits, evidenced by one of the possessed having the voice of Tobias' fiance. There plan was known however, and Tobias, Lucy, and Susan become trapped after one of the spirits shatters the stairwell and sets the gasoline soaked room aflame.

Lucy moves Tobias and Susan into a freight elevator. White Gloves, henchmen of the Weaver, ensure Madame Moore stays to burn to death. Her thread is cut short, and the rip sends Susan unconscious. The police were tipped off ahead of time, and as the rebellious mob members are coralled Rory picks up Susan and Tobias and takes them to a hospital influenced by Gary. Rory contacts Elizabeth to tell her she's at the hospital in case the apartment was compromised, and gives her directions.

After awaking to Lizzy and Rory, Susan discovers that Gary had killed Tobias' fiance after she had found Susan's residence. Susan also discovers the overarching parties at play. The Capones, the Virgilios, and a shadow organization in the background. With nothing else to say to him, Susan attempts to contact Giuseppe in jail but a Technocratic agent called previously posing as his "best girl" to extradite him has beaten her to the punch.

Feeling well, Susan, Lizzy, and Rory leave. Lizzy takes a moment to berate Susan for the current mysteriously criminal circumstances her friend is in when a vehicle approaches. The Virgilios, having discovered Susan is alive, wait for her to leave the hospital and assaults the trio as they drive. Thanks to Susan's efforts and Rory's driving, no one is killed but Elizabeth is injured.

They approach the car to find survivors. A gunman nearly shoots at Susan with unnatural speed, but he himself is shot by the driver.

Alright, hey, I'm finally in. So, me and Rory go back. I knew Gary too. I'm not into this violence thing. I just wanted to make money and make my grandpap proud. What with the families warring? I decided to go with option three.

I reveal all the familias. There are Naccaratos, deep rooted family that preceded just about all the others. Battaglias were Scicilians, ex-war vet boys from the wars. Us Ricci's are the newest, grandpap was a chemist, a pharmacist, back home. Rest of us are here to help him help the family, you know?

The ravages of World War I brought me much pain, and I had to make difficult choices. Suffice it to say, I abandoned my previous allies but even by doing so I am distrusted by my new ones. Susan meets Mr. Fredrich, and has to given Elizabeth over to him for care. He is friendly, and minds her while Susan returns to her usual duties at the bank.

Unfortunately, though she knows her job is retained for now, her peace is interrupted by Derek Granger. They convene to have a cup of coffee, and Derek Granger intends to grill her for information.

He is unsuccessful, despite having a lead on her many dealings, Susan appears a victim of the mob's shenanigans. She does procure a strange death certificate of Lucy dating to the time she fell off that fire escape.

Susan returns to Fredrich's home briefly to check on Elizabeth, and finding her in good sorts, returns home to rest. Upon awakening she's given a check with included donations, collected by Sarah Brooks, as the tale of her hospitalization got around.

Susan, wanting to ask Sarah about the possessed mobsters she met prior, goes to have dinner with Ms. Brooks at her home. They chat briefly before the conversation turns to the mafia. Both begin their plan to investigate the mysterious tower. Sarah reveals she's taken several items from the construction site. Unbeknownst to Susan, the site that was the very asylum Lucy was once interred within and now sits above the very machine that brought her to life.

As they rummage through the papers, they find an invitation written out to Andrea. When Susan holds it up to the light, a spectre is summoned named Evocatus Appius Otacilius Paetinus. It reveals it was bound to the purpose of killing an individual named Amadora Ricci. Susan decides to barter with the ghost, promising to kill Amadora for information on her dead husband. Intending to use its boon to speak to Gary, she lies to Sarah and tells her she will use it to help her speak to Greg again.

The following day Susan stops to visit Elizabeth, then to downtown proper to pick up a bite. All the businesses around the tower are closed. When they navigate the alley behind McAllister's smokehouse, they discover skinned cats and a container of rancid meat that produces a jeweled ring when investigated. It is marked with "AAdaaz"

They depart, finding a diner further from the tower, then stopping in at a local jeweler.

Amadora Ricci comes to the jeweler's shop. Amadora reveals her sister is missing, and the head of her family is searching for her. When Susan reveals the location, she feels it is confirmed her and her cats were murdered. She reveals her father was brought from Italy by the Don of the Virgilios, a skilled chemist and pharmacist. She also tells Susan about the power beneath Westinghouse Tower, confirming Susan's suspicions.

Armed with this knowledge, Susan and Sarah return to the tower, but finding nothing, wander back to the smokehouse. The walking corpse of Greg Brooks is awakened within, and it snatches up Sarah and drags her within. Susan pursues through piles of bodies, and upon finding Sarah, is ambushed. She fires, but latent gas and methane causes an explosion. A brief firefight ensues before they finally fell the undead.

Two corrupt officers arrive to the scene, tailed by Derek Granger, revealing Greg was a product of Rachael Virgilio.

Not wishing to encounter the corpse within, they opt to leave for a time giving Susan and Sarah a chance to escape. She calls Rory, and he arrives to take her back to Dr. Fredrich for much needed care.

Susan awakens, and discovers Derek Granger had followed Rory from the phone near the restaurant. He visits daily until Susan awakens, and when she does he grills her on her activities. He drops that Greg's body was taken to the morgue days ago, and at Susan's insistence, he follows up on its status. The mortician is dead.

The group begins to plan on finding Greg and destroying the body. Susan, however, still bent on returning Gary to life, wants to try to find a way to salvage Greg. They return to Sarah's home, leaving Rory and Derek to investigate more grounded leads.

Susan and Sarah begin the process of combing through her extensive library for something useful. Finding one appropriate piece, they spend the evening crafting some reagents well into dawn. Susan returns home, goes to work, then returns to check on Elizabeth. They meet briefly before Tobias shows up, indicating the insurgent gangsters have been without leadership. Word is out that Gary is dead, and when Susan attempts to calm him Tobias becomes increasingly violent. Any alliance she had with the common gangster is frayed now.

Elizabeth, seeing Tobias wrap his finger around the trigger, jumps on him and stabs him to death.

In the days after they continue picking up reagents, and note to find a translator for their Oriental occult studies. After preparing a lamb for sacrifice, both Susan and Rory visit a Church for confession. In another timeline, Lucy also visits for confession, and their fates attract and imperfectly merge, granting her a vision of the burning of the Corinthian Church by Shi.

After a proper confession and lunch, Rory drops Susan off with Sarah to go to Chinatown with several scrolls. Here they meet Yusheng Sze and her grandfather, the owner of the shop, Renshu Sze. Renshu attempts to use mind magic to keep the scrolls at the shop, secured, but spooks Sarah. She resorts to visiting another scholar, Mortimer Schmitt, this time as museum curators. He reveals the scroll speaks of some demon, an ally of a Maeda person, but cannot translate the others. Maeda, however, mysteriously arrives.

The meeting of the four is fraught with suspicion, but Shichiroji and Sarah Brooks manage to come to an accord. In exchange for a documenting of the scrolls, she will return the sacred texts back to their proper owners. Thought a demonstration of spiritual power, Susan requests that Maeda make contact with no other than Sarah's dead husband.

Leaving Shichiroji to do his work, she comes home to find Lizzy relaxing and sniffing Black Salt, the drug a new fad. She goes to bed, and unbeknownst to her, the last 60,000,000,000 fates of Lucy, Susan, and Gary are being wiped from existence.

After work, she visits Sarah in her home, lost in a blood ritual. She reveals she cannot sense Greg anymore. After consoling Sarah, she calls Renshu to find out Shichiroji managed to bring him from death... but he's not necessarily alive. She makes a date to meet Renshu and Shichiroji.

She calls up Amadora Ricci. She says she had her cousins investigate the tower. A sickly man looking for Arawn is killed. He has the address to a Virgilio holding, unbeknowst to the cousins. They break in, finding cultist activity. Nereo Virgilio, finding out she sent the cousins, reveals to her that they speak to the dead and that the entire family is meeting soon. She is given invitations, though Susan warns her not to open them. Amadora offers Susan money for hired guns outside the family's realm of influence.

Susan calls Elizabeth, but gets in touch with Lucy instead. Lizzy is ill from the Black Salt. She tells Susan to meet her at the diner, Susan arriving at 8:01.

The diner is the last stand of the remaining Susans in existence. As the weaver snips and cuts distortions appear as webbing and temporal upheaval. A frantic Lucy tries to leave notes for Susan, and a game of cat-and-mouse forces the presence of White Gloves, a manifestation of the Weaver to rapidly end Susan's life.

Susan dies many times, billions of times, until the last 147 with a modified watch of Gary's creates a temporary haven. They decide to head to a radio tower to amplify the haven's effects. After a shoot-out with the White Gloves, the trio makes their escape. Once the Benefactor enters the tower, leaving Susan and Lucy alone, they converse about their pasts.

Lucy tells Susan after the operation their fates will separate, but their conversation rapidly changes. The two friends, embracing their true love, decide to make their own fate. They abandon The Benefactor to the tower, not knowing he is dead and an ambush lied-in-wait for the two women. Deciding to assault the Westinghouse tower themselves, they stop at Sarah's for the building's blueprints.

They see the time is eight now is 8:00. Sarah awakens, and Susan tells her Greg's been resurrected. The three decide then-and-there to visit Sarah's husband, and then make their move on the Tower.
