Exalted, Infernal themes.

Because everyone loves to hate exalted.
I have a character concept I never had the chance to try in an Exalted game - probably because I'm kind of lacking in groups that won't run away screaming at the first mention of the system. I'm fine with playing both second (2.5E, please) edition and the fan conversion for third (I'm pretty sure there's at least one in a playable state).

Anyway, here's the pitch: a Fiend - possibly even somewhat a decent person at heart - off to play a very political (and ridiculously large-scale) game - things like:
 - Currying favor with the courts of elemental and terrestrial gods to expand the scope of the Fiend's diplomatic immunity. And from there, who knows - maybe to Heaven itself.
 - Fight improbable legal battles in favor of (at least) first circle demons to give them rights and protections more similar to a summoned Elemental - and on the other end forge world-shaking compacts to start bringing lesser forms of Elemental summoning into the purview of Infernal Sorcery
 - Play things closer to home and 'simply' cajole more Yozi into opening their charmsets to the Infernal Host, with bonus 'super hard' achievements involving travels to weird what-if dimension to unlock powers that could have been (Theion) or Bigger and Weirder names like Gaia, Autochton and the assorted Neverborn (a completely different problem for a completely different moment involves finding out if 'I have robocancer' and 'I'm stuck in a tomb and can feel only pain' are actual parts of the charmsets of the latter two and what to do about it)

They're all ideas we can tinker with, and any of them can by itself form the basis of an entire campaign - but it clearly has to be a campaign where it's at least POSSIBLE to do that kind of thing through sheer awesome politicking, not 'make your own version of Shinmaic Calibration and spam that until the world is in your image, pleb'.

Multi-splats and other characters: I have nothing against multi-splat games, and in fact I feel this particular one would only have to gain from it. Characters don't even have to be an actual Circle - just to have aims not particularly at odds with each other and the willingness to call up a supposed enemy from time to time for some reciprocal back-scratching. We have all read and/or watched Good Omens.
Though you're a bad person if you only watched it.

Even then, Exalts are larger-than-life characters, and with the right GM I feel they play better if they have interlocked-but-separated adventures. But this is a matter for after I do get an interested GM.

About high-Essence stuff: well, the Fiend anima power is probably going to be pretty central to this character (No, not the ability to pick Principle of Motion - the other part of the anima power), so I don't see him rushing for Devil Tiger.

On the other hand, the whole 'I have a Soul Pantheon now' part of the Devil-Tiger set (WHY is it locked behind Devil-Tiger, damn it!?), along with the 'Maybe I won't actually die at 100 even if TED is a dick' bits are really cool, so... we'll worry about it if the game A)Starts and B)Gets to that point.

About homebrew material: I'd like to see these AT LEAST not hard-noped, both for developing our own custom stuff and for access to some of the awesome things you can find on the internet.

It's a great system. Those are bad people.

Hey, it's already hard enough to manage to find some not of the "Give me Pathfinder of give me death" crowd around here, I can't be too picky!

Still around and still looking!
Just to add extra info, I can join Adult games, and I probably wouldn't try to cram the game at levels below Mature - but I'm open to ideas.

It's summer, and free time is once again in the list of things that exist!
As such, I'm curious to see what happens if I pick this pitch up once again, brush some dust off, fancy-up some of the formatting and toss it out in the wild once again.

Re: Exalted, Infernal themes.

I'd love to actually play an Infernal for once... pretty much every Exalted GM has run away screaming at the mention of an Infernal PC.

Re: Exalted, Infernal themes.

Surely a Fiend would need backup! Especially if it's a rules lawyering Cecelyne/SWLIHN infernal helpfully supplying one trillion obscure bylaws that the gods are possibly bound by as fuel for our antihero's arguments.

You wont get far in Creation without the help of mortals. They all have their own wants and needs. So easy to ensnare, so easy to gain their love just by giving them their hearts' desire.

In reply to Larhas (msg # 1):

I love Infernals and to ST. I will be available Fri-Sat, evenings CST. From 7pm on. I have actually written fanfic and stuff about this... I think my favorite thing about Infernals is the twin themes of failure and rock star excess. You screwed up but you have the chance to double down or make things right. You can contain multitudes or serve. You can burn bright and die young or build smart and beat the system that has been set up in ways that hurt you.
The world is broken. But that's why you're here.

Is your fanfic stuff online?

EDIT: AFAIK rpol is focused on play by post, not so much play on a discord server together (I am happy to be corrected).

Re: Exalted, Infernal themes.

Apologies for not being about, I wanted to be sure I could do adult rated games and clear my schedule for you. I have a short about a Sidereal getting played by a gentiman (written before details about gentiman were revealed) and a long piece involving multiple exalted that I started writing a while back.

Here's the long fic:
https://archiveofourown.org/wo...878/chapters/3253388
There's an older, unedited version of this on FF.net under SoulSailor. You'll notice the third chapter was posted the same day on both platforms.

Enjoy the read and let me know if that kind of narrative style is one you like!

Due to my work schedule and timezones being what they are, I can only do PbP games, not online games on Discord in real time, just so you're aware. Will take a look at your fanfic.

Of course, of course. That's what I had in mind. It's good to take a step back and slow down once in a while. It's been a long time since I've done PbP and I'm actually super stoked about it.

Welp, put up your ad for the game when you’re ready to go. I’ll apply - been itching to play a semi-loyalist Infernal for some time.

Re: Exalted, Infernal themes.

Excellent to see the ad actually spawned a game while I was hiatus-ing from rpol!
A bit less excellent since I don't think it actually went anywhere.

But still, I'm back and still with similarly themed itches to scratch - and with a little bit of 3e experience under my belt to boot! (except we didn't touch Craft for reasons).

Nownownow, let's not talk extreme measures yet!
I remember trying to stat out NPCs for Exalted, and I'm not looking forward to it - let's give this thing a bump cycle or two before resorting to stuff like that ;D

Tip for stating NPCs. Don't. Give them whatever you need them to have to make the story work. This includes for combat.

Also I'd be down to play.

I'm aware of that, I'm just more comfortable eyeballing things in other systems - probably just a matter of experience.

I dont particularly want to GM, I've only GM'd Exalted a handful of times irl and never on a PbP board. Also, I really want to get the opportunity to play an Infernal character.

Re: Exalted, Infernal themes.

Well, this has not been a fun few months.
I tried getting back into rpol in december, but it didn't EXACTLY work as intended, and now I'm ready to give things another shot.

I'm currently not interested in gving Essence a try here - I'm leaving the pleasure of beta-testing it to other people for the moment!
