Help!  I can't find a game to play!

Hi, I am brand new to RPOL, brand new to play-by-post, and brand new to tabletop.  That said, I LOVE to write and I LOVE all kinds of story telling themes, like Fantasy, Mystery, stuff like that...  I'm a blank slate when it comes to systems, though I recently bought the D&D 5E systems, and have read up on some other systems.  I'm a quick learner. So please don't be turned off by my inexperience.

I have been striking out trying to find a game to play in.  So far every game I sent a request for was either full, or the DM was taking a break from playing.

So I thought I'd be proactive and try a different approach and that is, to advertise in search of a game master/DM.

I think a Solo Adventure might be the best way I can get my feet wet here at RPOL and play-by-post gaming, so if anyone has anything they're interested in running a newbie through, I'd love to hear from you.

As I said, I love the stuff I read, and I read fantasy, mysteries, spy stories, historical fiction, etc.  I'm not looking for those "adult" adult games.  Just not interested in that kind of writing/roleplaying.  Besides I'm 20 (as of 2 days ago) so I don't think technically I'm qualified to play in Adult anyway.  But I CAN play in Mature which is fine with me.

If anyone's interested I'd really appreciate hearing from you.  I've been reading the various game stories and I'm eager to dive in.

Thanks for reading,

Sara

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

Do you have an idea on the class or level of character you want to play?

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

Hi! Welcome to RPoL and tabletop in general. I haven't run a solo game yet, but I'd be interested in trying it.

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

In reply to Girl Interrupted (msg # 1):

Welcome to RPOL! I totally understand how much of a pain it is to find a game sometimes. I've been around for about 17 years now, and believe me: it's never easy!

I'm not a fast-paced GM, but I've got a few long-running games under my belt, and I could certainly squeeze-in a solo adventure, depending on what kind of game you are specifically looking for. If our interests align, then I'll definitely consider it!

I'm not against running rules-based or freeform games, though I've had my most luck with Pathfinder 1e games. Unfortunately, I don't presently have access to the 5e ruleset.
Do you have any specific interests regarding setting and theme? What sort of story do you want to tell?

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

Hi to everyone who responded, and thank you!

First, I'm not hooked on any rule set, because frankly, I have almost no experience with game systems other than my perusing my recently bought D&D 5E books, reading up on GERPS Lite and some Fantasy Fighter stuff online.  I would prefer the rules play a back seat, mostly handled by the GM behind the scenes. Though I WOULD prefer SOME kind of rule system, because I don't think I'd want Freeform where there are no REAL consequences.  I kind of like the risk and reward that Game Systems SEEM to have, from my reading the various game threads.

As far as "Level"?  I'm not super familiar with the concept but get the gist.  I would say I would prefer "Low" level.  In other words, I'd rather my character be nervous in a toe-to-toe swordfight with a Goblin.  Super high powerful people like Gandalf the White, Superman and stuff, would probably lose appeal to me...

I'd be up to play any game where the DM is a good storyteller and writer.  Where average people are tasked with doing extraordinary things.  Stuff like that.

Medieval Fantasy (lower vs. higher magic but I'd do both), Westerns, Espionage, Contemporary Mysteries (like Detectives), Survival type games like Walking Dead or games where I'm, like, crashed in the jungle and have to survive.  All these have an appeal.

Super slow posting games would probably not be a good fit for me.  If I find myself 'getting into' the game and it slows down to a  post every week or so, it might go too slow to keep my interest.  A post every 1 to 2 days would be okay for me and probably keep me satisfied.

Not sure if I answered everyone's questions clearly, but thanks for reading!

In reply to Girl Interrupted (msg # 5):

Just putting my two cents in. If you want an "easy" rule set use GURPS. It is about as easy as it gets and can be adapted to a variety of play types. And go to a million different angles. You could literally start in modern day and go to a sword and sorcery setting. Then crash land in the jungle and go to space and deal with alien cultures if you wanted with the same character. You would learn new skills and take them with you. Other systems are less flexible. Not that they aren't good just less flexible.

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

Hi Knight-Vassal, yes, I did take a look at the Gurps Lite rules and the system does look pretty cool.  Like I said, I'm a blank slate when it comes to system mechanics.

Hey everyone, I'm so overwhelmed and touched by the positive response.  Everyone is so kind and welcoming.

I now have more game offers than I can possibly handle, so if I didn't choose yours, its not because I'm not interested.  Its just that I can't play in everyhing, so I chose the first couple that came my way.

Thank you everyone.  What an awesome community!

I guess the game administrators may close this thread down now.

Help!  I can't find a game to play!

I really do feel theres just too much 'adult' adult games going around anyways, quite honestly I also feel its more cybering then playing table top games, so i completely get your disinterest in that.

would you be interested in doing kingdom making? like pathfinder kingmaker? or a fire emblem style game?

im looking at starting a game concept ive seen float around. people like talking about it but no one seems to want to really do it... so, time to just do it.
