With some decent D20 modern mods for 5e, it would be pretty baller to run a Ravenloft setup in a modern day setting. Barovia could be some weird European country and Stahd could live in a skyscraper.

I’d love it if someone wanted to run with that.

System is up for grabs. I’d do straight d20 modern, or something else entirely.

The world set-up would be fairly easy since the domains of the Core basically already were a (mostly) European analog, albeit a Europe when viewed through a creepy gothic lens.

Barovia = Transylvania
Mordent = England
Dementlieu & Richemulot = France
Forlorn and Tepest = Ireland and Scotland, respectively.
Borca = Italy
Lamordia = Germany

If you squint just right ... you can make the rest of the domains into some sort of real-world analog as well (except perhaps Sithicus and Darkon as they are more traditional 'fantasy' realms).

The characters could be a group of american backpackers traveling across Europe. They get lost in the woods after some rave and pass through some mists, ending up in this gothic punk alternate Europe. Everything is familiar but off. Names are all different.

Then stuff goes bonkers when they wind up at a haunted mansion.
