Star Wars FFG - High Level - The Great Sith Wars
The Great Sith Wars (Old Republic)
Chapter I:
Exar Kun is waging a war against the Jedi. He and his apprentice Ulic Qel-Droma have successfully attacked Coruscant. Following this battle Kun and Qel-Droma seek to launch an assault on Ossus, in an attempt to raid the planet of its Jedi artifacts.

5 Jedi Masters (700 starting exp) stand to defend the planet. Can the Jedi safely defend their precious planet and prevail over the Sith or will they succumb to their overwhelming powerrrrrrr?

Star Wars FFG - High Level - The Great Sith Wars
This sounds like a blast. I don't have any experience with the system, but if this were to find a GM, I would certainly dive into the rule books to get familiar with mechanics.

I would definitely make a character for this game if it starts up.

Re: Star Wars FFG - High Level - The Great Sith Wars
In case a GM would be interested in running a FFG Star Wars game at higher starting levels, but didn't like the proposed story in the OP, I'm putting down some other ideas that I had:
  1. Go to the opposite side of the timeline and start around 130 ABY, Darth Wredd was supposed to be the last Sith. But maybe there was another faction working in the shadows which declared a war on the Jedi. It's pretty much a blank sleight.
  2. That same story but instead of the PCs being Jedi, they're Sith agents who want to overthrow the Jedi.
  3. We take it back a little less far in the future and bring it closer to the Mandalorian timeline. The PCs are the Empire/Sith (either remnants of Palpatine or a totally new faction) who will fight Luke Skywalker when he's in his prime & his new Jedi order. Or the other way around, the PCs are Luke's generals and are attacked by the Sith.
  4. We can also do a Star Wars episode 10: Palpatine's death by Rey causes an empty seat for the title of Dark Lord of the Sith. We ignore the entire storyline of what's supposed to come after that and create our story. Could be either light or dark side.
  5. We ignore all of Star Wars stories and start from scratch. Maybe about the first Sith Lord who ignores the Rule of Two and creates an army of Sith to stand against the Jedi.

@potential players: feel free to pick your favorite from this list or the original, that might give some guidance to what the most popular flavor is

@potential GM: feel free to reach out via rmail in case you would like to discuss some topics

700XP is well past the point where the mechanics of the game break down. Any GM for this better feel comfortable adding Adversary 6 randomly onto everything the PC's fight and not mind accidentally disintegrating PC's who didn't build "correctly".

Thank you for expressing your concerns. I've been playing d&d for quite some time and I remember back in the day that there were concerns regarding starting higher level games as well. Now they're quite a normal thing and people are even starting more and more high level gestalt games. Especially in PbP this seems to be the case, because things go so slow compared to real life games, that you just never keep everyone together long enough to get to the "Jedi Master" level where you fight the biggest baddest Sith Lord toe to toe, not even if the game starts at normal experience level and goes up to 2-3 years without losing any players (been there).

Starting at 700xp in FFG Star Wars is like starting a lvl15 d&d/pathfinder game. It is true that the GM won't mindlessly throw low level minions at the players, so they'll have to maneuver accordingly. Therefore it's probably best that the GM for this one is already experienced with the FFG Star Wars system. If the party is of similar strength, then it's just a matter of simply adding more stats, hp or as you indeed point out well adversary ranks.

It is also true that in higher level games there can be a power difference between players if some players build flavorful concepts with strong mathematic character choices and others build flavorful concepts without caring much about optimization. That's why I think communication is key between potential players and GM to see where we want to land things according to power level. I'm confident we can work through this with the group to be able to have party balance.

Re: Star Wars FFG - High Level - The Great Sith Wars
I got quite some players who pm'd me about different types of storylines now, for a star wars ffg game. We've been taking these discussions to Discord for ease of communication. A lot of excitement going on, although it all vanishes soon without a GM to run it. Feel free to reach out, even if you're not 100% set on running as a GM yet, and just want to get a feel for the storylines, players & how we'll work together to balance things out mechanically at higher level.
