GURPS Fantasy

Hi there.. I'm looking for a couple more games to get into, and I'd really like to see a GURPS Fantasy/Medieval game in my list. If anyone is looking for players, please pitch something here.

I'd be most interested in something high-fantasy, perhaps (but not necessarily) with some TL4 elements. Ideally, I might be interested in some sort of Gun-Mage, but I'm open to other concepts and games. The Gun-Mage is just something I've had in the back of my brain for some time.

So, please if you are looking for another player, you've had some drop-outs or no-shows, let me know, and let me take a look.

Thanks!

Well, I don't have 3e anymore, so it would have to be 4e from my perspective. And the point value would have to depend on the GM. I would imagine a range of 150 to 250 being the most common.

Re: GURPS Fantasy

why so high? wanting to start with uber characters?

i prefer third edition if i were to run it.

tech three, high mana world setting, fantasy races and monsters, standard magic rules, no psionics or chi abilities, no hybrid martial arts characters.

medieval into renaissance/early tech 4 feel, but with fantasy elements

it would have more european feel, set in world with a few big kingdoms/empires, plenty of city-states, and plenty of wild lands in between.

characters would need to be more than a collection of ah-hah i can do this traits - who are they, where are they from, who do they know, how do they make a living, why are they adventuring, what they do they want, do they have enemies, etc....backstory details that will also help flesh out the world.

I personally think 150 point characters are more standard. In 4th edition, 150 points doesn't go as far as in 3rd edition. 250 points is the standard for GURPS Dungeon Fantasy, which is supposed to represent "Experienced Dungeon Delvers". I'm more comfortable on the lower end of the scale, at least to start. And frankly, I'm less interested in Dungeons than I am in Adventures.. which can of course include some dungeons, but I digress.

Your premise so far sounds very close to what I was looking for. And while I always start off with a "this is what I want to do" outlook on making a character, I usually find myself developing ideas for the story of the character as I build it. And often enough, as I write a background I'll go back and juggle points to make the character fit the final draft. It's kind of an evolving process for me.

The only problem I have is that I don't really have any 3rd edition materials anymore. Might be able to find my basic set and the compendiums if I search enough in the attic, but I'm not sure what else I still have.

Re: GURPS Fantasy

I find it interesting how preferred starting points can vary so much. For the type of games I generally run, 250 points is low for the kind of breadth and competency I expect in the characters of my story. And I usually GM fantasy stories.

But the last campaign I ran was about normal college students running into the supernatural and it started at a much lower point cost.

Normally, I would jump all over GMing this game (I only play 4th edition though), but if everything goes according to plan, I will be unavailable most of next year and I don't think we can do anything but a very short game in six months.

Re: GURPS Fantasy

I've got an idea for a Nomad who's headed south to make a name for herself. They are a 150 point character and the idea is that they are a Chieftain's daughter out to prove that they don't need daddy to be awesome.

It's a good game, and the different point brackets are in different groups, so the lower point characters don't get outshone by higher point level characters.
