Cyberpunk D&D 5e - TechnomancerÂ’s Textbook

There is a FREE D&D 5e supplement called Technomancer’s Textbook - https://www.reddit.com/r/Unear..._275_page_book_full/

The book seems rather well made, and not crazy over-powered like some third party stuff. I think playing a D&D 5e game in a fantasy cyberpunk-like setting akin to Shadowrun, or Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty would be pretty fun!

I would love for a DM to emerge from the shadows to save us all with a glorious game!

That sounds interesting. I don't have time to GM something like that right now, but I'd love to play in it.

Definitely looks interesting ... reading up to see if it is something I could run, or if I'll just want to play when the time comes.

I uh am quite taken with that book.  Makes me feel like I did when I first read Shadowrun, back in 1989.  Lemme read it a bit and I think I could run something.

Cyberpunk D&D 5e - TechnomancerÂ’s Textbook

Okay, so a few more questions for peeps.

Should this be on Earth, in a recognizable form?  Should I use Shadowrun's background but D&D's rules (from the book linked in the OP).  Should I use another established D&D setting?  A world of my own devising?

I'll probably have a game setup today, I'm digging through RPG books currently.

EDIT: Another question.  Do we play with just the technomancers textbook or are we also playing with the full D&D 5e rules?  So all the magic, classes, etc.?

If you were to do it, I would suggest your own setting. The mechanics of Shadowrun tie directly into their metaphysics, which D&D lacks. Essence, Shaman vs Mages, Spirits, Free Spirits, etc.

My two Nuyen.

In reply to DJ-Anarchy (msg # 14):

Well, it would be easy to modify it so that it works, substitute in D&D metaphysics for SR ones.

But that's fine, I can work with creating my own.

Cyberpunk D&D 5e - TechnomancerÂ’s Textbook

So I've asked around, and gotten different answers.  Some folks have said that the Technomancer's textbook can stand on its own, but to me the book is lacking enough to stand on its own.  The author of the book got back to me and said that it was meant to be an addon to D&D.  But it seems a bit incongruous, only certain subclasses have technology, while the base classes are just... regular D&D classes.

So yeah.  Do we use D&D 5e with the Technomancer's Textbook, or do we just use the Textbook on its own?

I think the 2 are needed to work together...but content of the technomancer take prescidence.  Ie. Only the subclasses in the textbook are permitted, to maintain the cyberpunk technomancer feel.

I'd suggest the full D&D catalogue + the Technomancer's Textbook.

I would suggest that the regular classes are permitted too.  Except that everywhere you'd have medieval weapons and clothing, you replace with cyberpunk options.  Ancient weapons are still usable, if you can find them, but pretty much everyone uses modern/futuristic weaponry, clothing and gadgets.

Re: Cyberpunk D&D 5e - TechnomancerÂ’s Textbook

So this is the introduction to my game:

Far below, the sounds of traffic and the nightlife were a dull roar.  The wind pulled at a few stray hairs, and Salvador aka Point Five tsked, tucking them under her hat.  Dressed in a black, thermo-regulated jumpsuit, the assassin focused on the task at hand.

On the other end of her scope, a private cocktail party, on the penthouse level of a corporate plaza building.  A gathering of Night City's top executives, city officials and diplomatic envoys.  Rumours had been circulating for weeks that the city was going to secede from the Union of City States.  Rumours had it that it was being announced officially at this party, and then tomorrow morning to the world.

The sound of wings flapping nearby momentarily distracted her and she tensed, trying to see what the source of the noise was, without moving.  She relaxed a few moments later when the crow let out a few raspy caws, which were answered from a building nearby.

" ... Eyes on target.  I've got the bird." scrolled across the bottom of her vision in dull text.  "Seems like one of your feathered friends."

"Shut it." was her reply.

Back across the several block gap, the party seemed more animated.  Someone'd just arrived, and the other people were gathering around them.  Several signals popped up in her scope, indicating with a ninty-seven percent certainty that this was the target.

Point Five waited as drinks were circulated, and as the drinks were raised in toast, she held her breath and squeezed the trigger.  A thump was more felt than heard, the silencing system including enough magic to limit the sound of the weapon to a very small radius.

Her pleased expression quickly turned into one of shock, as the round flattened against the side of the building, the wall surrounding the impact area turning a bright blue, rippling like a stone tossed into a still pond.

"Impossible!  The runes were weakened!  Ge.."

The assassin shut off the feed, zeroing in for a second shot.  Then a heavy weight landed upon the barrel of the rifle, the muzzle quickly pointing down.

"QUOTH THE RAVEN: nEvERmOrE!", screeched the bird.  The assassin grunted in surprise, but fluidly swung the rifle around, dislodging the critter from her gun.  The move continued with the stock of the rifle sending the bird across the rooftop, where it crashed into the HVAC system with a metallic sound.

Aiming the scope at the party, she was pleased to see that it had descended into chaos, as multiple security teams struggled to get their clients out of the line of fire.  Then a recognizable face appeared in her scope, one that seemed to be looking right at her.  The Dwarf grinned suddenly, and winked.  Raising a hand, he mimicked pulling a trigger, his index finger pointed right at her.  That's when the spotlight highlighted her position, and it took all of her speed to throw herself from the top of the building.  The sound of impacts followed her, dimples appearing in reinforced concrete.

Spreading her arms wide as she fell, the suit began to inflate, and deploy small wings.  As she began to glide away from the building, she turned her feed back on, waiting for a pause in the stream of text.

"... The run was compromised.  The target had extra security in the form of Night City's best troubleshooters.  Zero point five alpha."

Salvador switched the feed off again, and moved to quickly toss several pieces of incriminating equipment to the wind.

"Always wanted to know what Sunset Cove was like this time of year.."

For a few Credits More is a cyberpunk game that uses D&D 5e and the Technomancer's Toolkit.

Players play troubleshooters, characters from a variety of backgrounds out to earn a few credits.  They are hired by those who would not dirty their hands with the tasks at hand, be it data theft, corporate kidnapping, destruction of property or outright murder.  As such, the characters keep to the shadows, on the edge of the knife so to speak.  (Think Shadowrunners or Edge Runners)

Characters will start at level 3, and use both the base PHB as well as the Technomancer's Toolkit.

What do you folks think?  I'm going to get a few threads created and then I'll edit this post to add a link to the game.

EDIT: Also, what game rating did people want?  I'm leaning at least mature, but possible adult since the world may be quite dark in places.

EDIT2: link to another game
