D&D 3.5 or 4e

I have quite an array of characters I've refined to pretty much any level.

I would like to tailor my character to the game somewhat, but if the game is neutral, I'd want to play a:

3.5: Gestalt Sorcerer/Fighter/Dragon Disciple//Half Elf Paragon/Human Paragon

4e: Deva Wizard or Invoker

I have many other concepts, not hundreds, but dozens, and they are really fun to play even without gaining any levels, or gaining every single level that could be thought of. Between 3.5 I have around sixty (60) concepts, some which look the same on paper but have different outlook. With 4e I have about fifteen, that divide into more as sub-choices change and history is incorporated into mechanics.

I'm not picky on books allowed, but would like 60% to 40% combat. I enjoy having good fights in D&D. That said, I want to have fun and let the other PCs (and NPCs!) have fun to do things outside combat or to better the lives of those around the party.

I'd rather a more mini-series type, than a huge overarching storyline; but I know those are appealing. Something that starts small at first, and then starts to line up to bigger plots connecting previous smaller plots would be ideal!
