Traveling Bards

I would like a campaign where the players take the role of Bards and skalds. We have a small wagon train of followers and guards and go from town to town plying our trade, playing music, but occasionally deal with bandits, or local lords who seek to imprison us, etc?

Depending on the system, I could see myself playing.

Would you be open to other concepts/classes that are mainly support but are not bards? Or maybe concepts with strong ties to music?

Like a sorcerer with max ranks in perform or a marshall in D&D 3.5

Depending on the system, I could be keen to play. I loathe D&D.

This group could be a number of different concepts, depending on culture and time period. Skalds and bards in the dark ages were traveling entertainers, but also deliverer of news and respected Lore keepers. Alternatively, this could be a group of mostly entertainers, along with some rough young men, fortune tellers, perhaps a horse thief or pickpocket or worse...

Did this with another group, way back, set in a fantasy version of 6th century Europe after the fall of Rome.  We were "The Argentos Travelling Show".  It was pretty cool, if very low combat.

sounds interestig, i would offer three games/settings i would run this in:

1. a near future apocalypse where the party travels between communities to survive. this would be focused on 'entertainer' of the party such musicians, singers, dancers, maybe a DJ, animal acts, knife throwers, wrestlers, et cetera. i would prefer to run this in GURPS using the 3rd edition rules (sorry, i'm not a fan of 4th.)

2. a traveling road show in the 1920s where everyone plays carnies, such as clowns, acrobats, animal handlers, musicians, et cetera. this would be ran with a Call of Cthuhlu-ish bent, you know supernatural horror. this would be easily set up in Call of Cthuhlu 7th ed standard rules.

3. a fantasy setting on large, vastly under populated world with the usual fantasy races where the party is part of a travel company of entertainers, i.e. bards, traveling to small towns, villages, cities, et cetera performing for locals. this would work best in a game like DnD (either 3.5 or 5e) just because it is easy to set without a lot of homebrew/custimization for many other systems.

I have no experience DMing online, but this would be a fun campaign for me. My offline players describe my campaign as a campaign ran by a bard. I have Bard competitions, and take my time to flesh out my bard NPC's. Currently, we're building up to a bard competition in Sigil, the City Of Doors.

My preferred system would either be Rogueland or something rules light though. I might not be able to play or DM, but I would love to pool ideas

Did this ever turn into a list of interested parties and a GM?
