HERO System superheroes

Would be lovely to play in a HERO system game of any edition. I currently GM one and am very happy to do so but would also be nice to be a player.

For my personal taste I would prefer something in the Champions style at the lower end of power level for starters. Either a more golden age theme without getting too camp or Justice League cartoon which has touches of realism and developed plots without going for the grim dark and gore soaked edge of the boys/invincible.

Holidays may not be the best time to look at starting this but if there are any like minds/takers please let me know.

I would second this. As a faithful Hero player, I would jump into almost any Champions game.
Consider me a second player.

Heh. I like playing superheros but after joining a HERO system game recently, it may not be the system I want to jump in again. A lot of crunch there, so not sure.

I agree. The system may not be for everyone. Lots of numbers, lots of design choices, and vast, voluminous amounts of crunch. But that is why I like it. =)

I recently did the McKay Anniversary Road Trip and subsequently bought every single Hero System 5th Edition book (but 4) so I'd be all in on a 5th ed game.

My preferences line up with the OP about perfectly.

I WILL say that Hero Designer is AMAZING. It's the only reason I was able to make a character for the Hero game I'm in. I'm not opposed to trying again. But it helps to have a GM (or another player) to help with getting things settled and formed well.

In defence, I understand the perception but I don’t think to actually play it is much more numbers intensive than D&D

While character creation has more maths this is only proportional to how specific you want to get in customising your powers. It can be set up to be as cookie cutter as D&D if the group wants.

I would also like to play in a Champions game.  I will also likely try running again, but not for a while.

The funny thing is, in a lot of ways, HERO System is very close to FATE.  Both are front-loaded games that require you to define your character at the start of the game.  FATE has fewer numbers and no fractions, which helps explain why it's more popular. ;)
