Re: OOC Thread 6 (group 0)

John Jameson McCarthy:
The evac point is an attempt to pick up those who can't make safety under their own steam in time.

This is correct. There is no time to hoof it back to the main defensive lines. The vehicles on the other hand can - but a detour to go up to the river extraction point first, would increase the chance of losing them (the enemy are reported to be funneling through the gap in Waterloo's broken position towards the rear in an attempt to cut off escape).

Jed Black:
The UAZ is already gone isn't it?

There was a LAV-25 being worked on by the motorpool somebody reported a while back. What ever happened to that? (I think it was before the motorpool got shelled).

The UAZ is with the Hummer (both are carrying the mortar team).

Unknown, but most of the vehicles in the motor pool were saved before the fires got too intense. Mike would say its probably still non-operational.

Something worth stealing later when we leave the city anyway... ;)
The UAZ did a hospital run though didn't it? I haven't been paying a lot of attention to that part of the field, so didn't notice it came back.

Aw shit. That's corect - it left with Fox. I forgot to edit that detail on the map and kept going with the UAZ being on location.

I will need to edit the post.

So only the Hummer is at Bravo, loaded up with the mortar det.

Presumably it's best for the rearguard to go for the river extraction point then?

Yes. Very much.

I thought that was the plan for you guys. The fellas at Bravo were the ones I was questioning. But yes, for the rear guard you really should make for the river at best speed.

In reply to Fusilier (msg #53):

I was always under the impression that Oskar et al would evac with the mortar team in the vehicles, and that those at the townhouse would head for the river. As the trucks have to evac anyway it seems pointless them dropping people off.

I'm sure Oskar can sit on the roof of the Hummer if needed!

There seemed to be some discussion starting about the rearguard trying to make it to the vehicles but that's obviously wrong.

Quickly fighting our way through to the evac point sounds like it will be fun! <G>

I'm ready to write up the turn - most rolls are done. Just need a couple more players to put in their actions.

Going for the river was always my intent. Fighting through the enemy inflicting as much damage as possible on the way is just a happy bonus. :P

Re: OOC Thread 6 (group 0)

Fuse - is it ok for Rooke to respond to Jed's instruction this turn or do you want me to wait until next?

Also am I correct that where Rooke currently is the wall is about 8 feet high but that towards the southern end of the alley it's effectively less because there is rubble from the ruined townhouses on the ground which you can stand on?  I think that that is where Rooke originally entered the townhouse complex and is therefore something that he knows but please correct me if I'm wrong.

In reply to Andrew Rooke (msg #60):

Err... critical rolls have been made already. Sorry, no more action. I'm pushing on with the results as I've already worked everything out.

The wall is about 8 feet yes. And yes, further down the alley where the debris spilled out from the bombed out sections (see map), it raises the "ground level" a bit.

Re: OOC Thread 6 (group 0)

Alternatively to moving down the alleyway, Rooke could just jump up and catch hold of the top of the wall...
That may be a better option rather than risk bunching up with Meyer and Ferro and potentially get everyone taken out by a single grenade.

Note that it's quite possible for a three man team to cross a 12 foot wall - even just two men have a chance of doing it (although not particularly quickly or with any real grace). Just because we've got 8 feet of brickwork in front of us doesn't mean it's impassable.

Of course that presumes nobody would be shooting at us... :(

In reply to Jed Black (msg #63):

Rooke is in the lead with Meyer though - he's not "bunching up" with Meyer and Ferro as Ferro is following on behind them the pair of them.

It's an academic discussion though - Rooke can take a look over the wall the next turn.

Re: OOC Thread 6 (group 0)

True, but my thoughts are that Meyer and Ferro would be leapfrogging Rooke to link up with JJ while Rooke peeped over the wall.
Rooke would still technically be in the lead, but he'd have PCs to both flanks up and down the alleyway.

We've got to cross that damn wall eventually though. :(
It'd be nice if there was a hole to crawl through and avoid waving ourselves around like a flag on a pole!

Re: OOC Thread 6 (group 0)

Ok... brace for impact.

Sorry Andy, but the war has come to an end for Rooke. This is the final entry for the Green Jacket. Celer et Audax

The rear guard has been caught exposed in the alley. A while back, I determined the number of turns it would take for the enemy to organize the assault on the townhouse, including coordinating between the different squads and moving everyone into place. Your breakout occurred just shy of that time frame and have been hit by the cut off element of the Soviet force.

It's a basic assault, with a main force gaining entry into the townhouse from the courtyard in an effort to either destroy you in place or force you out the rear. Meanwhile, cut off elements have been set up to complete the encirclement and prevent escape through the back.

Considering everything, the rear guard has gotten off relatively easy. The next turn will be crucial though.

*** I've numbered the enemy. Please use these indicators to let me know who you are targeting. ***

In reply to Fusilier (msg #69):

Balls!  I knew Rooke should have run earlier to save his own skin! <G>

(Just so others know at the start of this battle Fuse and I worked out the conditions under which Rooke would desert and they were never met, which I'm actually pleased about because those conditions were Mitch dying as Rooke's only remaining loyalty was to his fellow Green Jacket.)

He was an interesting and fun character to play and I'll miss being an arsehole at points! <G>

Fuse, no need to apologise about Rooke dying - a game without the risk of character death is toothless and not fun to play in.
