In reply to Fusilier (msg # 905):

Sorry I've been playing catch up on my phone, and there's been some big moves since I last kept up.

Also, it's not like Mike has much say tactically besides "Change your socks and use a condom, but not for socks."

Edit:  Those Tampons would be handy though.  They make great bullet hole plugs.  No joke.  Corpsmen use that shit, and in another game I was in (playing a Corpsman) he accidentally grabbed someone elses seabag from a sinking boat.  It was a female, but the feminine products ended up being medical gold.

Ferro has them now.

I remeber in my youth doing Army Cadets. One of the instructors said that sanitary towels made great wound dressings - clean and reasonably sterile, individually wrapped and designed to absorb fluid! Good advice, but slightly uncomfortable topic for a teenage boy!

I think I mentioned that giving them to Mike if Ferro didn't want them

You did!

However, Caleb didn't think of that at the time, so it is now up to Ferro.

Sorry for my erratic posting - I've had a load of things going on which individually don't take up too much time but combined have rather overloaded me.  I'm catching up on RPOL now (or should that be "again" as I seem to have done this about 3 times in the last month) and I think that I'm almost through to the other side........

I hope!

Andy.

If memory serves, didn't the French actually end up in a bit of a quasi-war with NATO in T2K? Italians too

Mike Catchings:

I think that you're confusing the French and the Greeks (but I may be wrong).  From memory the Greeks ended up in a local war with Turkey and as a result Italy sided with the Greeks.  Greece was at fault so NATO sided with Turkey and that prompted Greece and Italy to leave NATO and join the Warsaw PACT.

That's why Ferro is technically a "PACT" soldier.

France withdrew from NATO for some reason (I can't remember why) and was then hit by a few tac nuke strikes to deny major shipping ports etc to either side.  I think that the attacks were by PACT forces but I could be wrong.  France has therefore adopted an isolationist policy trying to stay out of the War and that is why they still have a lot of high tech military gear left.  They've also expanded their territory, annexing Belgium and parts of Germany - I seem to remember that in Rae's Pirates game that we worked out that one of Konrad or Dieter was actually from a place now occupied by the French as that was a potential source of conflict with Jan.

Lastly if you know that 2300 AD game background then you'll also know that France are one of the major superpowers in the year 2300, primarily because they largely stayed out of the Twilight War.

Anyway, I think that I'm right here about France but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: OOC Thread 9

Just to clarify, what RPG and GL weaponry do we have? This will help sort out the teams for the forthcoming battle.

Caleb has a BG-15 GL with 10x 40mmS HE, 1x Smoke, 1x Illum.
Also various hand grenades.

I have a camo compact on me.  Frank will be also applying it unless it is deemed NOT necessary for his position with the RPG?

Luis: 40mmN HE Grenade x6 and 40mmN HEDP Grenade x5

Cooper: RPG-16 + HEAT Rocket x1 and 1 AT grenade

Fuse - there is a slight error here.

Fox was originally assigned the RPG-16 & HEAT Rocket x1 but that was swapped over to Ortega.

Cooper should be carrying RPG-16 Rocket x3.

Please see link to a message in this game message #12.

Ta,

Andy.

Fuse - sorry, but what is the scale on this map?

1) BTR-70 - facing west. Occupied and likely operational.

2) Modular Tent - Opening facing south. Occupied.

3) UAZ-469 and Zil-131 - Facing south. Unoccupied and likely operational.

4) Hidden MG nest/slit trench - Facing northwest. Occupied.

5) Cave opening

6) Roving Patrolman - moving west.

Re: OOC Thread 9

Per Kolstrup:
I see we have at least one LAW [Varis' RPG-22]

My apologies if this has already been pointed out but we left Varis' RPG-22 with him so we just have the RPG-16 (with 4 rockets) and the RPG-7 (with 5 rockets).

EDIT - Cymon - am I right that Billy has a telescopic sight on his SLR?

EDIT2 - Fuse - if the ranges are very long then the plan Ortega has just suggested is probably garbage.  From looking at the map I'm guessing that we'd be able to engage from about 100m though.  Hopefully that's reasonable.

Is there enough camo paint/sticks here for everyone?  If not then how many people can we camo up?

- Fixed the RPG-16 mix up. I was sure I did it when the trade off happened.
- The distance from each of the teams to their respective targets is about 150 meters.

L2A1 SUIT sight(Sight Unit Infantry Trilux) The SUIT featured a fixed-focus scope of four-times magnification setting, with an eight degree field of view. So not really.

Also we mite want to keep the attack fluid ie if it appears we have inflicted more damage then anticipated we may want to press our advantage. You never know we may take out the BTR, MG etc.. in the first wave.

That's a bit further than I was hoping for but I think that it means that we're still at medium range for most weapons.  If we close a little to the edge of the ruins what would that reduce it to?

Billy 'Crack' O'Brien :

Ah - for the purposes of what were trying to do though Billy with a SUIT supporting Per is still the best option I think.

Billy 'Crack' O'Brien :
Also we mite want to keep the attack fluid ie if it appears we have inflected more damage then anticipated we may want to press our advantage. You never know we may take out the BTR, MG etc.. in the first wave.

Fair enough and I'm sure that we'll end up improvising when the plan goes wrong anyway! <G>

My concern is simply that if we push forward to try to capture the location we'll end up having to clear trenches etc through an abatis and that just sounds like it will cause us casualties and will take time.  Remember the UAV almost certainly isn't being flown from this location so that means that the French (assuming that it belongs to the French) have a second base somewhere so reinforcements will arrive at some point.

My suggestion for a plan is therefore to hit the French hard, do some damage and the get underground without being spotted (hopefully).  When the French reinforcements arrive they will sweep the area around the monastery while we're still underground.  We can then hopefully wait a while and withdraw once it's dark (assuming that we've found the BM).

It’s certainly not a perfect plan (I can see a number of flaws in it myself) but I think that it’s the best that we can do under the circumstances.

Fair enough - thanks for checking though because 100m or less will make a difference to a number of the heavy weapons.
