Re: Getting up to speed

quote:
One outstanding issue is for the Krokodil's 12 dismounts to be designated as internal or external passengers.

My understanding is that the BTR’s armour wouldn’t stop much above small arms fire so both doctrine and practice was to have people ride outside rather inside as much as possible (there’s a reference somewhere (I think in Nicolai Lilin’s book about Chechnya) to Soviet troops referring to it as the Coffin).

Therefore, if there are no objections, and presuming we’re using the squad assignments that Andy suggested earlier, let’s have Fischer’s squad and the militia squad riding externally and Benucci’s squad inside.

Re: Getting up to speed

Updated map.

Not sure if what I hoped would work turned out any good. The layout of the ground is very different than it is naturally. Buildings are razed, there are berms and rubble barriers, trenches, etc...

If using google maps isn't practical for you (phone users or whatever), here is a screenshot to help out a little. The red arrows indicate Fischer's planned axis of attack.

Let me know if there are any issues, or if this idea just doesn't work well.

Re: Getting up to speed

Fuse,

Depending on Fischer's answer to Tosh's question is it ok for Tosh to have brought the 3 RKG-3 Anti-tank Grenades?

Also am I right that we don't have any rockets for the RPG-7 and that's why it's in the Iltis rather than in the BTR?

Ta,

Andy.

Re: Getting up to speed

I’ve got people staying this weekend so probably wont be able to post again until some time Sunday.

@Fuse, Kessler will direct Meyer’s fire on to any targets that he spots (or the dismounts identify and call in over the radio). Instruction to Meyer will be to use the PK unless directed otherwise (targets that would warrant a short (5-10rnd) burst from the KPV would be vehicles, groups of 4 or more, or anyone confirmed as a leader / RPG man).

Perhaps one. They're large stick grenades. Would he have anymore room in his webbing, you think? Looks kinda full.

Yea, I was thinking 2 in the spare grenade loops of his webbing and one in his butt pack but they're probably too big for the loops so he'll just take one.

I'm sorry that I didn't get a post up earlier. RL is getting a little hectic. If Tosh accepts the frags, I'll remove them from Varis' char-sheet.

Rae,

If we find a mousehole, I'm looking for us to clear it using limited entry/limited penetration as opposed to stacking up and pouring through the door.  If we don't find a mousehold, we might have a use for that RPG-18, assuming we can get enough stand off distance to arm the warhead.  :P

Re: Getting up to speed

Edit... again (shit, I messed up twice on this).

I drew four units for each building in the layout map above, but there is supposed to be six, as mentioned in the previous turn.

I've updated the main map, with a screenshot here...

Re: Getting up to speed

Ok, turn is up.

If you already read the initial portion I posted earlier, you should read it again, as I've had to adjust some things based on the arrival of the Krok and Humvee.

Basic summary, the enemy (1-2) inside the intact residential building have not been directly observed by anyone, but they have reacted to the gunfire directed at their suspected locations. They are currently suppressed. I stress currently because the suppression may be dependent on whether continued fire being directed their way, or not. The only man actually seen was outside. He's still alive, appearing and disappearing at that spot.

Re: Getting up to speed

Hey fellas,

Turn is up... kinda rushed. I concluded the engagement for two reasons.

One, it's essentially over and I didn't want to drag out the clearing of empty building. There were only eight enemy here. Two booked off at the very start, leaving six in two-man teams. You killed three and the others split. I believe even if things were played out, those three would still have managed to break contact... though Tosh did get a chance.

Two, I'm on vacation tomorrow. Some of you knew that but others didn't. I wanted to leave things where we could have a fresh start when I return. The game is paused until around the 28th or so... but I have no clear date yet. That gives the group more than enough time for everyone to get in IC posts to sort things out and prepare for the next push.

I'll be in the middle of nowhere for most of my absence, so my ability to reply to PMs and such will be severely limited.

That brings me to the next issue. There is a problem with players not reading turn posts as well as other players' posts. This has been brought up in numerous frustrated and disappointed PMs, and I have noticed it myself. It's very frustrating as a GM or player to put in a lot of work only to find it being overlooked, apparently by skimming over content.

I'm not sure if this is a result of the turns getting longer, and there being more players/characters, so there is more to read and people are getting overwhelmed. Or are people just getting bored and putting up routine habitual posts... here but not really here. I understand that a number of you read via phones, as I do often, and perhaps that's a factor as well, but it's clear on my end that the problem needs to be brought up.

If people are getting bored then maybe this week will be a good time to consider stepping out. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk when I say that. We've been going at this for a long time and people may understandably lose interest. The door will always be open for anyone one of you to return should you decide to take a length break and there will be no hard feelings.

In any case, the issue with people skimming over posts needs to be fixed.
