Bringin' in the Herd

The men from the NBO head back toward the Drovers Cottage, with JEB navigating the streets as if he has been here for some time. Passing the Alamo Saloon again, they walk alongside a small group of shacks and tents.

With their minds on a meal, the men are startled first by a man's exclamation from within a tent not 20 yards distant, then by the appearance of a wild-eyed Indian woman who scrambles out of the tent, with a large, bloody knife clutched between both hands. She doesn't seem to notice the cowboys in the slightest; rather, she turns and runs toward a row house along the thoroughfare.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

In reply to Judge Messalen (msg #1):

Art moves toward the tent. "Somebody done got stabbed. Sheriff, you should follow the Ingin woman, I'll check in the tent."

Artemus approaches the tent and calls out "You alright in there?"

Without stepping into the tent, Art pulls back the flap to see inside.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

Loathe to head in a direction that doesn't end at food, Randy is equally loathe to let his trail mates head toward danger.  The sack of apples might jostle a bit, but he keeps a good hold as he starts out after JEB and Travis.

His spurs go jingle jangle jingle.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

Ayasha spins around when she hears the commanding voice behind her. The short deerskin dress she is wearing shows not only her slender legs, but also the bruises that are marked on her tanned skin. Her bare arms sport bruises too, and there is blood around her nose and the remains of a black eye. Most prominent is the blood spatter around her cleavage though, it looks as if she was shot through the heart, but since she is still standing, that is obviously not the case.

Her eyes dart back and forth from the two men following her and the tent she just left, before they go wide when she recognizes the men. Before it seemed she was about ready to attack the men following her with the bloodied knife in her hands (which are tied up with a rope), but as soon as she recognizes them, her features relax visibly.

"Oh. It's you.", she says, then she drops the knife.

In reply to Artemus Carson (msg #2):

Not wanting to leave Art without any backup, Cole moves to support his friend. He quickly  positions himself a few feet behind Art's shoulder, but with a clear view of the inside of the tent, when Art moves its flap.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

Travis, JEB, and Randy find themselves face-to-face with the Cheyenne woman they battled back at the Red River crossing. The three men and the female warrior stand on the back side of a row house, with the group of tents and shacks creating one of those empty lot pockets they saw on the walk toward the market.

If they hadn't already noticed, when Ayasha drops the large knife the men see that her hands are tightly bound with rope and her injuries appear severe.

Meanwhile, Ayasha recognizes all three of the men although she can't remember their names.

---------------

Artemus pulls back the tent flap and sees a large man--not quite as big as Randy, but sizable enough--laying on his back, with gushing chest wound. At first glance, it appears as if the man has bled out, but it might not be too late to save him. A closer inspection is needed.

Artemus attempts to stabilize the dying man. He believes the man is still breathing, but his efforts to stop the flow of blood are failing.

In reply to Judge Messalen (msg #9):

JEB slows down and closes the remaining distance to Ayasha slowly. He raises both hands with palms outward in a gesture of amity as he speaks to her: Senorita, I know our history aint amicable but we're here to help you. I'm gonna pick up the knife and cut your bounds, alright? Then we'll see your wounds and talk.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

In reply to Judge Messalen (msg #11):

Cole moves in to assist.

Art, lemme take a look.

He then attempts to administer what first aid he can.

Not confident that he can help the man without a medical kit, Cole looks around to see if there is anything in the tent that might be of use.

Re: Bringin' in the Herd

Ayasha's eyes are still darting nervously back and forth between the two men in front of her and the tent. When JEB speaks, she nods, but her body is shaking noticeably.
