As Cole brings the rifle around, the Starr slides into Travis' hand and tracks Rasmin.

It happened quicker than the blink of an eye, as things usually did when Travis did what he did best.

The rifleman turned away, his eyes searching for the hunter whom he remembered as being skittish during one of their previous incidents.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

Garrett Rasmin closes the remaining distance on Cole Trayne, reaching melee range. He has something in his left hand, but he makes no attack.

Like others seeing Rasmin's play, Pete Haverty readies his carbine.

--------------

OOC: ENS and Haverty act at the same time. I added Haverty's action here, so it is the professor's turn to state his single action for the Fast Draw round.

The Old Man scanned the situation as his age spotted hand strayed to the Old Navy pistol he had tucked in his waistband. Like the professor he wished to avoid bloodshed if he could.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

In reply to Cole Trayne (msg # 965):

Taking advantage of Trayne's firing of a longarm in close quarters, Rasmin makes his play. The bounty hunter, with an apparent practiced hand, attempts to snap one side of a pair of Tower handcuffs onto Cole Trayne's wrist. The wrangler feels the cool metal pop against his flesh . . . fortunately, the latch doesn't catch and the attempt fails.

Cruger moves toward Sunday, pulling his Colt. Rojas also moves. The hunters pull their sidearms. Oldman balls up his fists.

------------

OOC: Rasmin gets an Attack of Opportunity when Cole Trayne fires his longarm.  Sunday had readied an action to fire at Rasmin if the bounty hunter made an attack. This is a melee attack, so Sunday's readed action takes effect. Please roll to hit (-4 for firing into melee). After Sunday's shot (and post with the result), it will be a new full round. I will post the map and call for all PC actions at once, as we usually do. Mind you, this is a potentially chaotic situation. Any given action could be obviated during the battle by other PC or NPC actions.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

OOC: All PCs, please state a full-round of actions. Jake, JEB and Travis are at the top of the initiative order, ENS and Winters are in the middle, and Cole and Randy are at the end of the order.

Reminders:
The Judge is now calling for all actions at once, as usual. The Fast Draw round was the exception. Actions can be interrupted or obviated by other PC or NPC actions depending on initiative scores and circumstances. The Delay and Ready actions may be employed.
Some PCs still have damage from the Comanche battles.
Trayne and Rasmin are engaged in melee.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

In reply to Judge Messalen (msg # 970):

The reason I used a readied action instead of a delayed action was because I would go first.  After I fired did Rasmin continue his action and fail? Did Travis hit?   The timing and specifics of these actions is important.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

Shit! Jake thought to himself when Cole and Travis opened fire. The Texan knew that most of these people were men of experience, men who would hopefully keep a cool head. But there was at least one man in the vicinity that he wasn't so sure about, and he sure as hell didn't want a free-for-all to start up because some fool got jumpy.

Jake slipped his carbine from the crook of his left elbow and held it with the barrel pointing forward and slightly downward.

He walked forward, angling for the spot between where Cruger and Rojas stood, so that he would have a clear line of sight -- and of fire, if necessary -- on the hunter whom he was keeping an eye on.

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

In reply to Jake Richardson (msg # 972):

Not knowing what else to do, ENS pulls his Colt and moves to get a clear line on the hunter closest to Travis, but says nothing and doesn't point the gun unless the hunter moves on Travis.

OOC: it occurs to me that the hunters have never been named though we would surely know their names by now. For instance, where is the twitchy hunter that Jake is angling for?

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

In reply to Travis Sunday (msg # 971):

OOC: Apologies for not making things clear, although I did post a private line to Travis that answered at least one of his questions. Not sure whether he missed that or just wanted it made public.

In fact, the Ready action did interrupt Rasmin's attack (and Travis effectively went first), but the bounty hunter's attack had failed anyway (as described), so the result was the same either way and I noted explicitly that the result of Rasmin's attack failed. Sunday's attack was successful; he hit the bounty hunter -- that was the part I failed to document publicly. I'm not sure how that changes anything, as Rasmin is still in the fight.

EDIT: typos

Re: Chapter 15: For Whom the Bugle Blows

In reply to E.N.S. Ringgenberg (msg # 974):

OOC: One of the hunters was named (and referred to by name) several times. Boyd.

As for the twitchy hunter--ENS can't read Jake's mind and it has only been a few seconds of action so:
1. he doesn't know that Jake is targeting the twitchy hunter and there is no reason for him to be thinking about that. Twitchy's name is John. The third hunter's name is Obie.
2. it has only been a few seconds; if PCs want to process information such as relative positions during a gunfight, they need to spend actions to do so

OOC: The Judge has adjudicated most of the round, but there are required follow-ups with PCs. The Judge has PM's out there for a few characters. Once they respond, I will create a new chapter and the first message will be the adjudication of this combat round.
