Re: Xamador: The Cradle

Flynn grimaces as he sees Adryn face off alone against one of the damned creatures. He worries about his angle, but knowing that any hesitation could be disastrous he fires another two arrows off at the monster [d3]. He lets out a sigh of relief when he sees that they don't strike his druidic friend.

Re: Xamador: The Cradle

True to Tyler's words, the south-most destrachan peels off the ogre and charges Fylon.  Caught in the sphere of silence, Fylon heard neither Tyler's warning nor the charging beast.  It slams into him and knocks him to the ground. [Fylon - 6dmg]

Re: Xamador: The Cradle

Grondor stands firm and swings his flaming sword across the destrachan's [d1] hide.  The fire singes the creature which bellows in pain [12dmg (+2fire)].  His momentum allows him to bring the sword around in a figure eight for a second strike, but it gets hung in some of the entangling vines and almost wrenches out of his grip.

Re: Xamador: The Cradle

From out of the trees the goblin rogue drops, silent as a raindrop, onto the back of one of the destrachan [d4].  Without hesitating he drives both daggers into the creature's neck [d4 24 dmg: SnAtk, CRIT!!!]

Again Tyler's words prove true as the last destrachan facing the ogre gives up against the implacable giant and heads instead for the invar wizardess.  The ogre takes a parting swing coming full circle to catch the destrachan across its flank with the axe [d6 12dmg]  The destrachan is injured, but no enough to slow it down.  It charges for the invar woman, raking a claw across her chest [inv. wiz. 5dmg]

The woman screams in pain but barely manages to hang on to her spell.  "Nawthanimmad uwph!"  Immediately she rises into the sky out of the reach of the enemies.

Re: Xamador: The Cradle

The silenced destrachan [d1] has no place to go.  Fighting both the entangling vines and the lack of its primary offensive weapon, it lashes out with sentient level frustration.  Barking silent threats at each person around it, the destrachan settles for a feint at the monk and a claw attack against Grondor.  The meaty hand is caught on the hobgoblin's weapon and turned aside.

Instead of remaining toe to toe with two powerful fighters, the other destrachan [d5] caught in the vines puts all its effort into moving away.  Snapping and writhing in silent fury, it struggles enough to move back away from Kahmaul and out of the reach of any who might reach it at the edge of the vines.  The only way to hurt it now is ranged attacks, magic, or to wade into the spell after it. [5' step north of Kahmaul]

Near the armoragon, the destrachan [d4] serving momentarily as an unwilling goblin mount attempts to buck the tiny rogue loose.  The daggers provide excellent hand holds and the destrachan cannot shake him.  Unfortunately, the goblin can do nothing either except hold on or let go and lose his knives for the moment.

Seeing the battle go well, Vertium holds back with his spells and concentrates on the beetles.  Tyler seems to have some kind of insight as to what the destrachan are doing so Vertium decides not to give his own tactical input then, fearing to interfere with Tyler's superior perspective.

The three beetles attack, one hits.  A golden red flash accompanies the bite and the destrachan hoots in pain [d3 6dmg].

Flynn holds his ground in response to the loud shriek that sounds behind him. It is a reminder that the battle could still turn to the worst if the beasts aren't dealt with as quickly as possible. He sets his sights and continues to fire at the now angry beast-hoping to put an end to its cries.

His first arrow flies unerringly true-but the ringing in his ears distracts him just enough for him to lose his footing with his second shot.

Fylon attempts to stand.  Flanked by Aethen and the summoned wolverine, the destrachan is too cautious to stop him.

The monk does another kick against the destrachan, doing some damage [d1 4dmg].

On the other hand, the armoragon strides over to the destrachan being used as a mount, waits for it to turn toward him, and grabs its neck.  With little effort, he shoves a mailed fist down its throat and the destrachan forgets all about the goblin.

Aethen grits his teeth as the wave of painful sound rolls over him, ripping through him.  Gasping at its intensity, he turns to see if others are okay.  He hears his companion yelp in sudden pain as it receives the harsh attack.  Turning again, he sees the lone destrachan underneath the invar wizardess.

Aethen realizes that if that creature trumpets as the other one had, he would be done.  Taking a shaking deep breath, Aethen charges the creature, attempting to grapple it.

Re: Xamador: The Cradle

With the ogre managing the destrachan's movement, the goblin is free to act.  Neither seemed affected by the prior blast from the destrachan and are likely too far away.  The goblin removes his blades and stabs the creature in the back of the head several times.  The knives have trouble getting too deep through the thick skin, but significant damage is done and red trails of blood run down the creature's neck and legs.  [d4 24dmg]

The destrachan below the wizardess points its head up and emits a flesh rending wail.  The woman holds her ears, but it does little good.  Her robes fly up and tangle her and she curls into a ball.  At least she is able to fly further upward and out of the creature's range.

Already disoriented from the first blast from the destrachan near Adryn, and now suffering from the latest blast from the one below her, the Invar woman does nothing but hold herself in pain and flee.

Vertium collapses from the wash of sonic power.  It didn't hit him as hard as it could have for distance, but he looks out cold.  The giant fire beetles dissipate immediately.  Dathnaea also attempt to cover her ears, but falls to her knees in pain.

The silenced destrachan lies on the ground dead or dying.  The writhing vines entangle its body so that there is little hope of moving it.

The one that moved further into the mass struggles further away and looks like its attempting to flee.

Struggling against the awesome power of the ogre armoragon, the destrachan ridden by the goblin thrashes about to little avail.  It will be dead in a moment if the ogre and goblin do not let it go.

Tossing his bow aside, the orc ranger draws two blades.  One is a curved longsword with no crossbar at the hilt.  The other is a thin short sword slightly shorter than the first weapon.  He charges toward Aethen, the destrachan, and the Invar wizardess who is well out of the reach of the destrachan's blast by now.
