Sorry this is so slow.  I was hoping to hear from Sigismund or Ciara.  I'll pick up the pace soon.

Ciara got a job and stopped logging into RPOL at about the same time. She was running another game that I played in that stopped. I wouldn't expect to see her.

Glad to hear that, since I'm having trouble this evening. After a killer day, I can barely read, much less type. I'll try again in the morning and hope I'm not holding up folks who are ready to play.

I'm having a spot of trouble keeping up with games at the moment; or mostly, having the oomph to write stuff properly etc.

Yes, but your level wasn't "official" until you rested a night.  That's the way I play it at least.  You need time to reflect upon what you have learned.

Durl Rockfist:
"Ye gots a tavern close by?" The dwarf wasn't sure if a tavern would be found at a border station, but it didn't help to ask.

lol... this is going down as one of my favorite quotes of all time.  I'm not sure if it was intentional or not,  "...but it didn't help to ask."

The other guys were smokers. Durl is a drinker :)
And as I was writing my post.... I had to have him say something. It was all mannerisms or something that wasn't interesting and nobody could build off it. Except more feelings :)

Thanks

But did you intend "...but it didn't help to ask."

Usually it is, "...but it didn't hurt to ask."

That was the funny bit.

Re: OOC Board
Hello, everyone. With regrets, I'm bowing out of the game. I'm sorry to do it, not only because it's an excellent game, but also because it's the last vestige of a hobby I enjoy immensely and just have no time for any more. Family and work obligations are making it very difficult for me to commit to any regular RPoL activity.

My apologies for leaving you at this interesting juncture. Thanks, Jeff, for all your work.

Re: OOC Board
Sorry to hear that.  Rath may have a pivotal role in the coming events so I'll keep him around as an NPC at least.  I don't have much faith in Sigismund and Ciara returning and have made plans for them, I want to keep all the current characters in the story but they may not be a part of the group... they might pop up from time to time though.

It doesn't sound like you are going to be coming back Rath?  If so I will remove your access to the game after a week or so but you will always be welcome.  Just send me an rmail or a PM if you ever want to join back in again.

I really enjoyed your character and rest assured, Rath will live on!

@Carlo.  You out there?  Carlo hasn't logged in in a while either.  So far it's seems like it is getting down to the dwarves.

At this point it really looks like I need to gather some more players but I'm not going to change up the party until after they leave the caravan.

Re: OOC Board

Sorry to hear you’re leaving Rath.

I’m also running a game which Carlo’s player is in. I haven’t heard from him either, hopefully he’ll make an appearance soon.

As for continuing the game I’m up for it and might be able to persuade a long standing Rpol buddy of both me and George to join up.

Re: OOC Board
I'll keep your suggestion in mind Umfrey, once I'm ready to start recruiting.

Since there are so few players left I would like to get your ideas on how the game is going for you.  It has been moving along pretty slow, slower than I initially intended.  Also, the group has pretty much been guided by the caravan.  These two things are about to change.

I plan on picking up the pace a bit, perhaps dwelling a little less on the little things.  If I ever seem like I am moving too slow or too quickly just send me a PM.

Breaking off from the caravan will also signify your freedom as a group.  Brimzanzle will be with you but he is more or less helpless without the groups aid so will rely on you to make the important decisions.  I will, of course, continue to throw out hooks to guide you but it is totally up to you on how you want to act upon them.

Also, expect things to get a bit more deadly.  The caravan served as a good means of getting people together and as a means of protection.  So far your encounters have had a few higher level characters around, and others could jump in if necessary.  Now that you are 2nd level, and on your own, things will change a bit.

From the 1st encounter, things really didn't go the way I intended.  It was my intention that at least one of the False Purple Dragons would have been captured, even though I wasn't going to hand them to you ;)  Mikale managed to ditch Rath, who had a chance to get him but played to his character and let him go... it wasn't worth risking his hide over at the time.  Then Sigismund had a chance to apprehend him, but Mikale managed to pull his heartstrings enough.  It was an interesting but welcome change for the events I had planned.  I've been running a very "on the fly" game.  I have a plan, I have players and I set them in motion, but what happens isn't always entirely up to me.  I roll a lot of what happens to the NPCs, even when they are "off screen", so to speak.  So sometimes I am surprised by the results, one surprise in particular is coming up soon.

I even rolled out the entire Purple Dragon battle with the Orcs.  I didn't want just a scripted battle, that way, you were able to influence it in many ways and the outcome, even for me, wasn't ensured.  I was hoping the Dragons would win once the party got involved, but it was looking a little dicey (no pun intended) for a bit.  It would have been very interesting if the battle turned back in the Orcs favor.  On that battle I initially thought that there was no way the party could do anything to warn the Dragons of the Ambush, but I forget how resourceful players can be.  Umfrey's sign did the trick but there were a few other ideas that may have worked given a different initiative order.  My intention was to have the Ambush sprung, then the party would have to fight/distract the orcs on one side of the line giving the Dragons a chance to break through the line.  Though, given how few of the Dragons were left standing at the end of the encounter, I'm not convinced even that would have worked.  I'm glad I gave the party a chance to react.

Okay, I'm getting long winded now.  So, back on track.  Let me know what you think of the game so far and if I could be doing anything better.

Are you confused about any story bits that have been revealed so far?  (some confusion might be intentional on my part)

Do your characters have enough to do?

Is the story compelling enough?

Anything else?

Re: OOC Board

I think the pace has been good, whilst the game has been active the story has generally moved along with the characters actions quickly.

The storyline or at least the main plot line seems straightforward. I see that the aim is to retrieve Brimzanzle’s chest. The sub-plots are a little more difficult to measure. There’s the increased orcs activity, the fake Purple Dragons, Savaric the dwarf necromancer and Rath has heard of someone disreputable hiring mercenaries all which could be connected to Brimzanzle’s chest and the Soul Sphere.

There’s enough for the characters to do but at the moment we are relying on finding signs on where the chest is heading as we don’t seem to have any idea who the real enemy is yet.

I’m enjoying the story and interested in finding out more even if it ends up being just the dwarves. If the story is being controlled by our actions then the need for a balanced party is lessened. Umfrey is multi-classed so is well skilled. Durl as a ranger covers a lot of areas too.

Re: OOC Board
I'm enjoying the game too.
I enjoyed the storyline and even traveling with the caravan. But I'm eager to go off on our own too :)

Thoughts
1) Didn't think that the paladin would make sure a big stink on the stolen uniforms. Turn a blind eye and don't chase the dwarf :) But the paladin did stay true to being a pain in the neck :)

2) I was waiting for the moment where the uniforms would be needed and I could have said. "I told you so."

3) Now all the side-plots are interesting but I'm a bit lost... I expected that I would catch on and find a seam when the time came.

4) Yeah. Let's pull Steve into this game so that we're all together again. I think I'm much happier playing a dwarven ranger than other character types I've used.

5) My character can multi with Cleric at some point in time if necessary.

6) Now, I've some big expectations on that cat's eye. But I'm also worried about the parallel with the Lord of the Rings and the eye in the gem.

Thanks for the feedback.

That's pretty much the gist of it.

Umfrey:

Like I said in my other post, I was thinking that you were going to capture Mikale or one of the others.  They may have been able to reveal a bit more but now we'll have to wait to see if you catch up to them or someone else that can lead you to answers.

Umfrey:

I think I'll keep it to four active PCs for now, so it won't be just the two dwarves.  That leaves room for expansion later on, by a newcomer or a previous PC that returns from limbo.  It will also keep the pace up and be easier for me to make sure everyone has something to do.

I had never planned anything for the uniforms, but you never know.  But yeah, he was playing his role.

Like I said, some confusion is intentional for now.  Things should become more clear as you progress.
Some stuff that seemed important could just be fluff, other stuff might make sense later on.

Durl Rockfist:
4) Yeah. Let's pull Steve into this game so that we're all together again. I think I'm much happier playing a dwarven ranger than other character types I've used.

Go ahead and send him an rMail or PM and ask him to Request Access, I think he can without the "Players Wanted" flag being put up.  I'll prep a special RTJ form for him after he sends me a message.

Durl Rockfist:
5) My character can multi with Cleric at some point in time if necessary.

I'd really like to keep Carlo around.  There is a lot more to his character that hasn't been revealed yet.  If Carlo can't return I may try to find someone to take over his character.  There is a guy in a game I am playing that would be a perfect fit for him I think, but I want to give Carlo a chance.  He has been really enthusiastic about the game until recently.

Durl Rockfist:
6) Now, I've some big expectations on that cat's eye. But I'm also worried about the parallel with the Lord of the Rings and the eye in the gem.

Maybe you should play around with it a bit ;)

Re: OOC Board
BTW, I did hear from Carlo.  He does plan on coming back, he just has a few RL distractions to deal with.  But says he should be getting back into the swing of things soon.

I'll still be wanting to fill that 4th spot, so please let your friend Steve know and have him contact me.  Pretty much any core class is open to him, maybe others from other WotC sources.  I think we have enough muscle, stealth and spellpower with the three of you and the other PCs turned NPCs may be around for a bit yet, depends on how things go.  I don't think we need another dwarf though ;)  but I don't want anything weird.  Human, half-elf, elf, halfling or gnome would be welcome.  This area is predominantly Human so that makes the most sense, but any of the above will work.  I'll work with the new member in private to work him into the story.

Re: OOC Board
Right. Here I am.

Big sorry for vanishing like that. To Steve too. I shall get back into the BRP game too, asap.

This has been a bit of an odd one. I have been able to keep up elsewhere (not all of elsewhere, only some of it), but have been quite busy and feeling a bit of stress. So I got into the stupid situation of not even opening the thread because I knew it was a big one to get back in. Actually, just having minor changes to a character sheet is sometimes prohibitive. Meh. Sorry.

Anyway.

Comments...

Having a plan and then allowing the PCs to mess it up. Sounds like a ten out of ten there, Jeff.

I think that about the only think I'd like is to have the feeling that we can do whatever our characters choose and we will continue (as players) to have fun. If that is doable, we can follow our characters' whims.

I shall now go read the IC threads.

Sam.
