Re: Business As Usual

Unable to see anything usable, Nephi retreated, following Monica and Hector at a distance.  'Wish I'd taken some firearms training.' He thought to himself.

Re: Business As Usual

Well, hitting the heart seemed to do it, Geoff thought to himself as he slowly backed off, he aimed carefully once more at the foremost rioter and gently squeezed his trigger, sending another 9mm round down range.

Re: Business As Usual

The fat woman lumbered towards Jane, just in time to receive an extremely well-placed pill of hot lead from Geoff.

She fell backwards as well.

Jane smiled widely and was about to compliment her quasi-boyfriend, when Headless Worseman and The Boy Who Didn't Live began trying to regain their footing.

A moment later, Funeral Guy started twitching slightly.

Re: Business As Usual

Geoff began to shake, these things really weren't going down, head shots, heart shots, what would take them down? Geoff controlled his racing breath and backed further out of the shop, he aimed at the headless man's heart and fired once more. Hitting them slowed them down if nothing else, and who knew, maybe you had to take out the head and the heart?

"Get a move on! He yelled, We can't hold them."

Re: Business As Usual

Once again, Geoff sent the undead to kiss Mother Earth.

Well, not really kiss, seeing how the thing was one head short of having a mouth, but it's the thought that counts.

"You're not invited to the wedding party hon... But take some confetti anyway!" Quipped Jane, sending a bullet through the heart of The Kid Who Didn't Live.

The undead fell over. Meanwhile, Funeral Guy and Opera (Ain't Over Till She Sings) were beginning to move again.

Now, this was all good and fine: zombies rise, Jane and Geoff send them down again; lather, rinse, repeat.

All it took to end the fun, however, was one bullet missing its target or a zombie faster than its brethren getting a lucky hit...

Re: Business As Usual

Hector stopped just as he was about to open the door, and for a moment gazed into Monica's eyes.

"I know this is a bit of a stereotype, middle of a horrible conflict and all, but I just can't run into a mob of the living dead without doing this just once."

He bent down and gave Mon a long lingering kiss. He was quite good at it. Tongue was involved, too.

He pulled off with a dorky grin, braced himself, and shoved the back door open...

Re: Business As Usual

The alley behind the building was quiet. There was no sign of zombies, just a slight breeze, filled with the smell of boiled cabbage.

A handful of cars had been parked there, leaving only a few free places.

Most importantly, the alley was blind, a cul-de-sac enclosed by buildings on all ends.

Re: Business As Usual

Nephi berated himself again for not taking firearms training, or at least taking his rapier into the shop with him.  He spotted Monica and Hector just as the backdoor opened.  "Monica?  Got a pipe or bat or something?  I feel useless, being unable to defend myself against these zombies."

Keeping her gun pointed at the floor, Monica followed Hector, casting a final look over her shoulder to answer Nephi's question before leaving: "There should be a Civil War sabre, probably a replica, somewhere in the back... I don't know how good a condition it's in, though."

Noticing Nephi's expression, she proceeded to repeat it more loudly, accompanying the sentence with gestures.

"Thanks." Nephi said in reply before he began his search for the sword.

Re: Business As Usual

Hector looked a bit disappointed as he looked around and found not a zombie in sight.

Well isn't this a bit anti-climatic. I mean I kissed the girl, I shoved the door back, revolver drawn, and there's nothing here?! No respect for the traditions of cinema, these zombies!

"Looks okay so far; so stay here until I've checked out the front, 'kay guys?"

"Snowball. Hell. Get over it." Replied Monica, grabbing a brick from the floor to use as a doorstop.

Having made sure the door would stay open - just in case - Monica followed Hector in the small, desert alley.

Jane fired another shot... That went completely wild.

She shook her head, looking confused: "Geoff, let's get out of here..."

Then, very loudly: "Hector! Ready or not, here we come!"

Geoff nodded at Jane and said, "I'm right there with Ya, kid, you move, I'll follow."

Geoff let Jane lead the way and he continued backing off, ready to fire but saving his ammunition as the bullets really didn't seem to have much effect.

Re: Business As Usual

Stumbling slightly, Jane went for the shop's small warehouse, and waited for Geoff to follow her before closing the light wooden door that separates the two rooms: "This won't hold'em for long, but the next two will."

Then she looked at Neph, who was still searching through the shelves and the piles of rub... Material accumulated during the years: "Nephi, we gotta go."

On his lack of reaction, she repeated, more loudly: "Nephi, we gotta go!"

Re: Business As Usual

"Well I could give you the cop's traditional 'you're a civilian' speech, Monica. Or I could stand here picking my butt. Hard to tell which would be the bigger waste of time we just don't have."  said Hector with a knowing smile, "But let me go first, and try to stay behind me." Not waiting for a reply Hector then sprinted up the alley toward the cars....

Monica had no hope of keeping up with Hector, but she tried her best anyway.

At the end of the alley, Hector found an overturned car. Not only was it blocking the access to the road, but the gas tank had been cracked in the accident, and it was now spilling fuel all over the pavement.

Jane bit her lower lip, trying to remember: "There! Try over there Nephi!" She spoke loudly and pointed with her finger.

As Nephi searched, Jane leant against the wall: she wasn't feeling that hot.

She let out a surprised gasp when Geoff put a heavy hand on her neck, and managed to say: "Geoff! Not... Now!"

Re: Business As Usual

Monica swore profusely as she reached Hector: for some bizarre reason, the idea of being stalled by something as ordinary as a car accident, while she was trying to rescue a beloved friend from the hungry horde of the living dead, seemed even more outrageous than the existance of zombies in the first place.

"What do we do now?" She finished.

Re: Business As Usual

"Suppose it was a bit of a long shot to think that crash we heard wouldn't of hindered us in any way. Should of known better to think everything might just work out." said Hector in a pissed off fashion. Then, after taking out his frustration on a bit of stray trash he kicked around for a moment, he continued with a twinge of resignation, "Well I somehow doubt anyone could of walked away from that," he said gesturing at the wreck of a car,"but we should see if anyone inside's still among the living. Then, once the obvious is confirmed, we'll try and see if we can climb over. If not......jeez we'll have to get the others and see if can right the blasted thing and push it out of the way." Hector then pulled out and turned on his flashlight with his free hand and walked over to the car blockage.....

"Maybe I'm a little stressed..." Smiled Jane. "Let's get out of here!"

She led Geoff and Nephi out of the shop's backdoor and locked it behind her.

For good measure, she also removed Monica's improvised doorstop.
