"As a Familiar I am allowed a large quota of inappropriate comments, tweet."  "I was joking when I said that.  Why would there bs such a quota for things that do not normally converse?"  "Squawk!? I've been living a lie!"

Terdisas make roadtrip! Yay!  Though considering the events of the day and the time, the Sorcerer wouldn't be too adverse to tilting over himself.  Though obviously in better condition than the prisoners.

Re: Shadowfell Keep

During the trip, of course, Callie tended to her allies' wounds with loving care and the occasional mommy antics she tends to do. When it's time to rest, Callie tends to the wounded prisoners, at the very least making sure they will make the trip. Beyond that, making sure they will be able to sleep (because if they don't get rest, they will be even slower the next day). She isn't anywhere near as kind to them, but she is still kind. Occasionally giving an uplifting comment.

In the end, though, she enjoys aiming her love at her allies one more time before offering to keep first watch. "As a follower of Sehanine, I rather enjoy watching the night sky and admiring the moon. I will be up several hours yet."

Dido agrees, as long as he is wakened for second watch. Once all the watches are established, Dido sleeps.

"Early to bed, Early to rise!" Mittens chimes, "I'll take fourth."

Kitau holds up one finger to indicate she'll join Callie in the first watch.

The night passes uneventfully.  Occasional signs of ropes loosening are dealt with easily enough.  Dawn arrives with the smell of a yummy hot breakfast Mittens has prepared for everyone.

Shiny Falcon Superbird hangs out with the short ladies through the first part of the night as Terdisas gets some much needed sleep, and the rest not sharing the Sorcerer's time on the conscious clock.

When morning food times roll around, Terdisas is quite happy with almost any alternative to eating rations cold on the go.  "Arcane secrets at your command, and it is the culinary arts that come to be the most appreciated at this time Mittens."

Callie blushes as she eyes Dido. She nudges Kitau and Mittens. "Lookit. So cute." as she points out Dido, who is curled up, hugging his backpack and smiling in his sleep.

She eats the prepared meal, thanking Mittens for it and letting Dido sleep just a little longer before finally waking him for fooding.

Kitau snirks at Callie's commentary on Dido's cuteness.  Mittens Frieza blushes and makes no comment.

"Glad you like!"
she chimes happily at the thanks, "You're welcome!"

The trip back to Winterhaven is pretty uneventful as well.

Terdisas makes it back to civilization alive and well, huzzah!  Though he finds himself wondering, though his player too tired to backscroll right now, wasn't there the suspicion that at least some part of the townsfolk had been involved with Kalarel's death cult?

If such concerns were valid, then it was for the best they had gained a full night's sleep on the road.

Re: Shadowfell Keep

Callie is more than happy to put their best foot forward and goes to meet the nearest authority about the goblin captives and to report what happened at the keep.

Dido interjects, "There was a dead paladin of the Platinum Dragon who had been turned undead. But he was in control of himself and able to talk peaceably to us. His name is Sir Keegan. He told me to inform people who I trust to go back there and bury the place to make sure another cult doesn't try again to bring apocalypse upon us. Should you need anything *inside* before tearing the place down, first I want to emphasize that you do not take the religious idols out of the keep. Also, he asked that you say the following: Hail Sir Keegan in the name of the Platinum Dragon and his champion Dido."

That last part makes him blush.

Callie nods. "It's true. We were all witnesses to this and that is what Sir Keegan asked."

Re: Shadowfell Keep

Villagers who are aware of the characters’ efforts in the
keep eagerly await word of the outcome. When the characters
return to Winterhaven, the villagers rejoice upon
hearing of the success. Lord Padraig even holds a celebratory
feast in their honor.

"The most fantastic thing happened yesterday," Padraig says, "We were under siege by a small army of zombies.  Apparently every last body buried in the graveyard outside town had clawed to the surface.  We held them off as long as we could, but nothing would stop them.  Just as they breached the walls, they just... stopped!  Like they ran out of magic!  You saved the town, heroes!  Thank you!  Thank you so much!"

Mittens grins.  "Musta been the moment we shut down the portal."

"Why so unhappy looking?" Padraig asks Kitau.

"I'm sure she'll be happier once these villains are locked up tight and awaiting trial for their crimes."

Kitau gives Mittens a skeptical look.

"Or rather... after they're all executed," Mittens whispers.

Kitau nods.

Re: Shadowfell Keep

Terdisas is well aware of the concept of narrative timing.  But even then, still finds himself very glad they were fortunate enough to punt Kalarel directly into the Shadowfell so swiftly.  He somehow doubted 'you stopped them just in time' would have given them the ten minutes leeway of a real fight.

"Even as the most obvious threat has passed, it does seem that there are aspects that remain to be resolved, yes."

Dido sighs and says, "...all the ones guilty of crimes worthy of execution, that is. All of them are guilty of associating with Kalarel. They *claim* they were enslaved. But some of them attacked us on our way in simply over treasure. We can identify who played what part in the events, so whenever the trial is ready, so am I."

"Safely in custody.  Of course!" Padraig answers, "Get these prisoners behind bars!"

"Yessir!" a guard answers with a salute.

The prisoners are taken away.

"The trial of course can wait.  First some much deserved food and rest for our heroes!"

Mits doesn't object and digs in when presented with the first course of the feast.

"Heroics is it's own reward," she says between bites, "But anything on top of that is still appreciated!"

Kitau eats in silence, eyeing the townsfolk with suspicion, but she finds no obvious signs of there being a spy among them.

Does often find himself wishing that his blufftasticness did not come alongside the inability to recognize such in others.  It is probably no wonder that the stereotypical Charisma based court spy/assassin is a bundle of paranoid nerves.  Anyone they meet could be just like them.  "Considering how hectic even our first five minutes within the keep were Callie, it is impressive enough already that this many of them have been spared to this moment thanks to your efforts, among others."

They brought back HOW many prisoners!?... Wait, make that, they brought back ANYONE?!  Said the usual post dungeon details.

The halflings are enjoying the food for sure. Far be it from them to turn down food. Callie looks at Terdisas and says, "Well yes, but what's the point of sparing someone's life for one more day if you are going to kill them the next? I hope some of them will make their lives worth while."

Dido points out, "The point is that you are enforcing the wheels of justice. Even if none of them live, you can know their deaths were just. If you killed them while they were unarmed, you may have felt like a murderer."

Callie ohs. "Well... I still hope some live to make their life worth while. This world could use a few GOOD goblins, for heaven's sake.."

"Worth while?" Padraig repeats with a snort-stifled laugh, "Now that's wishful thinking.  Goblins are about as useful as a hammer with no head."

"Collapsing that dungeon to make sure it's never entered again will be a lot of work," Mittens points out, "Maybe the less guilty ones can pay their debt with labor."

Kitau looks annoyed.  Mits makes no further comment.

"For a bunch of folks who went to the very doorstep of a god of undeath, you bunch sure are... gentle?"

Mits shrugs.

"The need to kill is one acknowledged by all of us when the time comes.  However, it is likely more comfort to others in the long run people such as us do not all advertise killing as our first option as well as our last.  Mittens also brings up a valid point.  Not only will the labor for sealing the keep be involved, but even with the rift closed how many of the townsfolk would be willing to go near the place for such work?  Enough to keep an eye on any prisoner labor surely, but enough to do the job themselves?"

Terdisas is all for cutting off the heads of those that tried to do the same to you.  Though, you can't beat the pricetag of prisoner forced labor, both financially and morally.  Usually at least.

Dido answers Padraig. "Evil is the path for the weak. What is easier? Killing someone because you hate them? Or sparing them for the better of others and possibly even for the better of the ones you spared? Gentleness and mercy; are these not things our enemies lack because they are evil? Gentleness and mercy takes strength where it counts." a pats his chest with his fist, making a clang sound.

"That said, believe me when I say I want to kill those goblins. But the right thing to do is following justice. It isn't easy sometimes, especially for this group of adventurers due to being nearly killed by them. But we are not those goblins. So we don't act like them."

Callie cracks a smile from Dido's "hero speech", but notices Kitau is upset and goes to side-hug and whisper at her, "You're a real hero, Kitau. And now these people won't have to clean up after the enemy's mess. Instead, the enemy gets to clean up their own mess."

Callie faces Padraig also, "Don't forget what Kitau warned, though. Those goblins will try to smooth talk and be friendly to weasel their way out of trouble. So be careful and don't be all *that* quick to let them off with good behavior."

Re: Shadowfell Keep

Mittens grins at the hero speech.  Kitau quietly gets up to leave.  Padraig puts on a very impressed expression.

"Very good points," he answers, "I'll see to it that the villains who didn't earn themselves execution get put to good use.  And don't worry about a goblin smooth-talking me out of his punishment.  I know when someone's lying to me.  But perhaps one or two of them might know something useful about the rash of kidnappings."

"What rash of kidnappings?" Mittens asks.

"About a dozen people have been taken from Harkenwold, east of Fallcrest.  Supposedly goblin-kin are responsible.  If there's a connection to the goblins you captured, it could mean trouble for Winterhaven too.  Sister Linora knows more about it, but she spent all night re-consecrating the graveyard."

"Oh!" Valthrun the Prescient chimes, "If you do decide to head east, please see me about the possibility of adventuring in the Thunderspire Mountain."

"Sounds fun!" Mittens comments.

Re: Shadowfell Keep

Terdisas does hope Kitau comes to be able to employ 'take what you can get, say I told you so as needed' methods more easily in the future.  Otherwise he expect a tiny little ulcer in the tiny little warrior.

"I do believe we shall consult you before our departure then, for it seems an easy guess what our next destination is."  The Sorcerer wonders what the point of re-consecrating the graveyard is when it was of zero use the first time around, but suspects a the very least it may help prevent incidental zombies occurring solely by virtue of 'this setting is insane'.

If nobody else happens to rush off after Kitau, Terdisas will do some himself.  Otherwise he will leave it to the others.  Some forms of pep talk are not for the earshot of the more merciful.

Seeing as how Kitau was right next to Callie and didn't seem to respond to Callie's encouragement, Callie seems slightly concerned and follows Kitau. Dido decides to leave it to the love-girl.

Dido looks at Valthrun. "Then come with us to see Linora."

Terdisas Shall leave the situation with the short lady in the hands of the other short lady then.  "If there is time to consult both of you at once, this could be beneficial overall yes."  Cross referencing between NPC contacts? MADNESS!  Yet oh so sensible.

Terdisas does find himself hoping that Kitau isn't going to make the Goblins help block the paths into the keep by reducing them to bloody cubes and stacking them.  Metal, sure.  But not very practical.
