PHB 284 DOUBLE MOVE
✦ Same Move Action: To double move, you have to
take the same move action twice in a row on the
same turn.
This is the only direct slam-dunk curb-stomp of original rules as written houserule I intend to allow. Because it's the dumbest rule in history. This means no errata.
Long story long. Tim's hybrid character Raichel was looking into a power "lightning form" or some such that allows you to shift through enemies and attack them.
I said, "Too bad you'll get opportunity attacks up the ying-yang."
"No, shifting means no AoO."
"Not when entering enemy spaces, right? I'll look it up."
Looked it up. They were right. No AoO. But then, I found this:
PHB 292:
You might find it useful to first shift away from an
adjacent enemy, then walk or run.
Me: "Oh that's amusing. They're contradicting the double move rules."
Rick: "What double move rules?"
Me: "I'll look it up and read 'em to you."
Looked it up. And found... maybe... I had misunderstood all along.
PHB 284:
Double Move
On your turn, you can move twice if you take a move
action instead of a standard action. If you take the
same move action twice in a row—two walks, two runs,
two shifts, two crawls—you’re taking a double move.
Read that again. You CAN move twice... IF you take 2 of the same move actions, it's a double move. If you don't, it's not a double move, but they never say you HAVE to make a double move to move twice in the same turn. This should have been obvious. You could make a move, a minor, then move again. So... on the bright side... this means the "house rule" is not a house rule and SoW remains unhouseruled. Still....
