Lost Mine of Phandalin

OOC: This is the log (IC & OOC) from the first Roll20 RP session. As many of the OOC comments pertained to the IC actions, separating the two isn't feasible. OOC comments are greyed out.)

Seth K. (GM): (IC) Everyone is in the city of Neverwinter when a Dwarf acquaintance and current patron (employer) Gundren Rockseeker, has hired everyone to escort a wagon to Phandalin. Gundren has gone ahead with a warrior, Sildar hallwinter, to attend to business in the town while the group follow with the supplies. Everyone will be paid 10gp (each) by the owner of Barthen's provisions in Phandalin when the wagon is safely delivered to that trading post.
(OOC) Everyone understand what is going on so far? Right now yuo can place your characters around the wagon & horse and roleplay introductions to each other, etc.. as the group escorts the wagon and horse down the road. (As Varis has vehicle proficiencies he'll be controlling the wagon.)
Toothix: Toothix isn't very talkative and generally responds with nods and whatnot. When he does speak, it is with a very... different accent. Presently he's walking alongside the wagon, watching for ambushes.
LaserFace (GM): OOC: it may have been literal years since I’ve done real-time RP, but I remember the gig
Markus Navarre: Markus mutters to himself while keeping an eye out for trouble. Oddly enough anyone caring to listen can overhear "How can such an important question have such a simple answer. And why is that answer 42?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy has taken to resting her feet for the past few miles and is riding shotgun. She seems to be personable and has engaged each member of the party at least once. She turns her attention to Markus and giggles. "42?"
Toothix: The half orc considers pulling out his abacus and offering it to the guy muttering about numbers, but decides he'd rather not lose it. In case he suddenly has to do long division.
It’s a real and legitimate problem that could come up.
Varis Naïnodel: Varis blinks keeps the wagon on the path, and isn't sure he wants to know what Markus is babbling about.
LaserFace (GM): *sorry, miss click on T name*
Markus Navarre: Markus turns to Lucy and grins as he uses his awakened mind to telepathically inform Lucy and the others, "Yes, 42 happen to be the answer to the ultimate question. The problem that has driven so many mad, is trying to figure out what is the question."
Seth K. (GM): OOC: Understood, we can edit that when it goes into the RPoL log so that it was Tark saying that.
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) is this the first time Markus would have used telepathy during the trip?
Markus Navarre: OOC: Yes

Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy ohs... she was still getting used to the telepathic communication. "I thought several questions led to 42..."
Toothix: is trying not to be distracted from his job by the number 42, but is finding it difficult. Note to self. Change battlecry to '42!' to distract enemy.
Varis Naïnodel: Varis rubs his temples as he muttering with a slight smirk, "Why do I feel that this conversation is going to give someone, possibly me, a headache?"
Tark: "Because you hate math? At least, that's why I'd figure just a number hurts anyone."
Markus Navarre: Markus chuckles, "No, I am not asking about a question as simple as numbers, but THE QUESTION. The ultimate question to the meaning of life, the multiverse, and everything. It has been said that an ancient being was asked to answer the question and when the answer was given. That answer was 42, and that if one knew the question, one would understand why the answer is 42."
Varis Naïnodel: Varis' eye twitches as he shakes his head muttering, "These will be a long couple of days."
Toothix: now understands this is just silliness and makes it a point to tune out.
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy ohs and says, "Well if anyone can figure it out, it would be you. Such things are far beyond me."
Tark: Tark considers these claims from Markus, and after a long moment asks "...Why is how many ale's Larry Lumphammer managed to drink at once on a bet such an important number?"
Markus Navarre: Markus looks to Tark and shrugs, "Who knows, I'm not a Great Old One so why would I ever expect it to make sense to me."
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) LoL! Nice referencing your old 5e character concept. XD
Markus Navarre: OOC Except it to...

Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy glances at Varis. "Anything I can do to help?"
Toothix: is liking Tark, but wishing the conversation would just end. Or switch to something more interesting. Like the many uses for bandit entrails.
Varis Naïnodel: Varis shakes his head as he says, "Other than keeping an eye out for danger, not really."
OOC Anyone mind if I do a time skip since this part is just to get the characters personality introduced to each other a bit.
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy looks at Toothix. "You're quiet. I'll bet you do a lot of thinking too, don't you?"
LaserFace (GM): OOC: I'm okay with that if Tim/Chris are
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) well if the combat is happening on the road, it can interrupt us
Seth K. (GM): OOC Okay
Chris F. (GM): ooc thumbs up

Toothix: nods to answer Lucy. Well it's true!
Seth K. (GM): (IC) A couple days pass following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and the group has just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. So far there have been no troubles, but in this area bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk. After about half-a day on the Triboar Trail, the group has just come around a bend and the group spots two dead horses sprawled about 50ft ahead of you blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
Tark: "Well, that's a waste of horses. There are LEAST ten trees they could have just chopped down instead, if somebody wanted to block the road."
said the orc on a forested path
Toothix: "Poorly done or not, still a likely ambush."
Varis Naïnodel: Varis stops the wagon and looks around as he mutters, "Well I'm not sure if the horses were dragged there or if they died there."
Toothix: heads forward to investigate the horses, wary of pitfall traps and whatnot.
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "...do people drag horses?"
Markus Navarre: Markus shrugs, "Some might."
Tark: "If we want to get past them later, then yes, people drag horses. Or I guess just build a ramp over the, but that could take longer"
He asks the advancing toothix "Want me to go with you, or stick with the wagon?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy pulls out her prayer wheel and says a quick prayer for her allies.
Toothix: "Move as a group methinks." Rolling d20 init roll (3) =3
Lucy Mooncrusher: Rolling 1d20(17) =17
Seth K. (GM): OOC Lucy and Toothix aren't surprised, (due to their higher passive perceptions), but Markus, Varis, and Tark are. Everyone roll initiatives as your already doing.
LaserFace (GM): OOC: The first roll of the game is a three.
Truly, this game has been blessed by the roll20 gods as legit

Markus Navarre: Rolling 1d20 + 2 (15) +2=17
Varis Naïnodel: Rolling 1d20 + 3 (13) +3=16
Tark: Rolling 1d20 (18) =18
Seth K. (GM): Rolling 1d20 + 2 (18) +2=20, Rolling 1d20 + 2 (13) +2=15, Rolling 1d20 + 2 (15) +2=17, Rolling 1d20 + 2 (14) +2=16
LaserFace (GM): OOC: ppft. According to my screen the initiative counter can't handle the Tark icon.
Seth K. (GM): (OOC) those are the goblin initiatives from 1 through 4
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) same here for Tark
Seth K. (GM): OOC same for me as well, but we still know who tark is

(IC) Goblin 1 rushes towards Toothix while Dodging (Attacks vs this guy have disadvantage, and he has advantage on saves.)
(OOC) Tark, Markus, and Varis are surprised so no actions this round.
Goblin 3 moves out of cover and attacks Toothix (who isn't surprised), Rolling {1d20 + 4}>17 (17) +4=21 rolling 1d6 + 2 (6) +2=8
LaserFace (GM): OOC: Goblin's been working out
Seth K. (GM): IC: The goblin archer manages to hit Toothix with an arrow for 8 dmg (OOC Ouch that was a max dmg)
IC Goblin 3 then moves back behind cover and tries to hide... and utterly fails to do so.
OOC I rolled a 1 on that stealth check... if you’re wondering.
OOC Markus is surprised, and it is now Lucy's turn
LaserFace (GM): OOC: suggestions for Toothix if he's not already dead by the time his turn come up.
Second wind (now fighter only) is a bonus action, so you are allowed to use it for self-heal on top of your normal actions.

Chris F. (GM): ooc thanks
LaserFace (GM): OOC: as you are level 1 fighter, that would be 1d10+1 HP healed
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy squeaks and covers her mouth before pointing her prayer wheel at Toothix. "No!" (OOC: Healing word on Toothix), Rolling 1d4 + 3 (2) +3=5
(OOC) Toothix is now at 9 hp

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 4 moves up to Toothix and swings his scimitar. Rolling {1d20 + 4}>17 {(14)+4}= 1 Success, Rolling {1d6 + 2}>17, {(4)+2}=6
OOC Oopse forgot about the successes, that is 6dmg on the hit.
The goblin manages to strike Toothix but not for as much damage as the goblin archer.
Goblin 2 fires a shot at Lucy after realizing that Lucy is a healer.
Seth K. (GM): Rolling {1d20 + 2}>15 {(15)+2}= 1 Successes (OOC I only added 2 instead of 4 to that die, it still hit...) rolling 1d6 + 2 (5)+2=7, OOC and it hits for 7dmg.
Goblin 2 then moves back behind cover and tries to hide
And manages to do so very well. (OOC) Rolled a nat 20 on that check, oddly enough
Seth K. (GM): OOC It is now Toothix's turn.

Chris F. (GM): uses second wind. takes a swing at Goblin 4.
Seth K. (GM): OOC How many hit points do you recover, roll the 1d10+1, OOC Goblins have an AC of 15
Chris F. (GM): rolling d10+1 HP recovered (7)+1=8
OOC or is second wind a nonaction?
Chris F. (GM): ooc idk
LaserFace (GM): OOC: bonus action is second wind, he's completely new to the system still.
OOC: so can't do both (hint: do the self-heal)
Seth K. (GM): OOC not a problem had to look it up myself as I didn't know what type of action second wind is

Chris F. (GM): k
ooc i'm guessing AoO, 5' step and all that haven't changed?
LaserFace (GM): OOC: now you have to use up your action to 'disengage', which turns your movement into 'does not trigger AoO'
Chris F. (GM): ah cool.
Seth K. (GM): OOC no 5step, just disengage action which means no triggersin AoOs at any point in movement.
LaserFace (GM): ooc :not allowed to attack if you do that, but gives you your full movement

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 1 moves up to Toothix and swings his scimitar
rolling 1d20 + 4 (17)+4=21
Chris F. (GM): i see
Seth K. (GM): OOC and hits, can these guys miss?
Chris F. (GM): then not attacking and moving back
ooc now for the IC flavor
Seth K. (GM): OOC okay that works, I'll allow that since you didn't realize no 5ft
LaserFace (GM): OOC: if you want to recycle that roll, yes a 21 hits tark even with shield

Toothix: is slashed, healed, and slashed again. He takes slips back to the group and applies some first aid to his wound.
Seth K. (GM): In that case. The goblin moves up, and reaches Tark first and tries to attack him with the scimitar. (OOC Not recycling rolls.)
rolling 1d20 + 4 (4)+4=8 OOC And the first goblin miss.
OOC Tark, your turn.
LaserFace (GM): OOC step one, bet a shiny peny I roll less than a 10 on the virtual dice

Tark: rolling 1d20 + 5 (8)+5=13
OOC: yup
Seth K. (GM): OOC Miss... What are these goblins eating?
Tark: OOC: nothing really. main danger aside from the RNG is 'level one weaklings'
OOC: done. since I can't very well use my move action without triggering an AoO

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 3 moves out and takes another shot, this time at Varis
rolling 1d20 + 4 (15)+4=19
Tark: Tark swings his battle axe, but only manages to chop the decorative horn off a helmet, no actual goblin parts
Seth K. (GM): OOC hit, rolling 1d6 + 2 (5)+2=7
And varis takes 7 dmg
Tark: ooc :save us, spellcasters who don't have to target AC!
ooc rolling a 10 is right out for the fighters
Markus Navarre: OOC Eldritch strike targets AC. :(

Markus moves to get a clear shot at Goblin 1
And for his bonus actions casts Hex on Goblin 1 who now has disadvantage on Dexterity rolls.
rolling 1d20 + 5 (4)+5=9
And Markus' Eldritch Bolt misses.
Seth K. (GM): (OOC Lucy, your turn)
Lucy Mooncrusher: I can see goblin 3, right? (OOC)
Seth K. (GM): OOC Yes, he's gotten confident enough he didn't bother to hide given how badly he flubbed the last attempt, OOC he has no cover from you, OOC not that sacred flame deals with cover anyways, OOC the icon on Goblin 1 = Hex, on Markus = Concentration

Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "What do you want?! Stop hurting us!" and with that, raises her prayer wheel, which swirls with white fire before the fire shoots in the direction of one of the ranged goblins! (OOC: Sacred Flame v Goblin 3. He must make a reflex save. DC 13)
Seth K. (GM): OOC what spells does Lucy have readied, I know one of the 4 is healing word, also duno what your cantrips are (remember those can't be shifted around)
rolling 1d20 + 2 (4)+2=6
Tark: OOC: lot of 4's from our team
OOC: wait that's the save throw

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 3 screams as the Sacred flame burns him
Lucy Mooncrusher: rolling 1d8 (4)=4
Tark: ooc: return to previous statement
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC 4 damage to gobby 3

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 4 cackles in common, "We plan to take everything you have, including your lives." as the goblin moves up to try to attack Lucy
rolling 1d20 + 4 (9)+4=13
OOC And Goblin 4 misses.
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) Finally! XD

Tark: "You know, not the most pressing issue here but. Why did you kill the horses instead of keeping living horses you could do things with or sell?"
Varis Naïnodel: Varis quickly fires an arrow at Goblin 4, rolling 1d20 + 5 (7)+5=12
OOC Darnit... miss
Goblin 2 tries to take a shot at Markus, rolling 1d20 + 4 (3)+4=7
Seth K. (GM): OOC and misses before ducking back into cover and trying to hide
Goblin 2 doesn't seem to have hidden very well this time
Tark: "I saw where you went, you're not fooling anyone that's the same tree"
Varis Naïnodel: "They seem to be getting somewhat cocky. As they seem rather annoying, more than anything else."
Seth K. (GM): OOC Toothix, your turn
Toothix: moves around to flank goblin 1. "Get away from that goblin, healer!"
Seth K. (GM): (OOC Goblin 4 is at the healer, not goblin 1)
Tark: "Of course they're cocky, they out numbe.. wait, nevermind. We're getting out asses kicked by less enemies than there are us."
Toothix: rolling d20+5 v gob 1 (10)+5=15
Tark: OOC: a 10! it is a miracle
ooc: next miracle to hope for. rolling a 3 out of 8.
Chris F. (GM): I’m guessing i can add STR damage to weapon attacks
Seth K. (GM): OOC Correct, unless it is a finesse melee weapon use str for melee attacks or thrown attacks

Toothix: rolling d8+3 (7)+3=10
Tark: OOC: yup. and your feat allows it with two weapon fighting. Which you do not even need this turn
Seth K. (GM): Goblin one screams as it is cut down.
Tark: "Sweet, now there is twice as many of us as there are them"
Chris F. (GM): can i use that mystery action to throw a hand axe or javelin at gob1?
Seth K. (GM): OOC as Goblin 1 drops, it is now Tark's turn
OOC Yes.
Tark: ooc: oh yeah! smart toothix
Seth K. (GM): OOC you mean at goblin 3 or 4
OOC remember that the horses provide cover for 4
Chris F. (GM): right gob 4
ooc worth a shot
Seth K. (GM): OOC I wouldn't
OOC the horses provide 3/4s cover it has +5 AC as a result
Toothix: ooc *shrug*
Seth K. (GM): OOC wait creature cover only counts as normal despite the size difference so only +2 AC

Toothix: rolling d20+5 javelin throw v gob 4 (13)+5=18
Seth K. (GM): OOC That hits, even with cover.
Toothix: rolling d6+3 (2) +3=5
Seth K. (GM): The Horse whines as the javelin flies past it into Goblin 4
Toothix: shouts at the goblin, the one who will kill you IS ME!
Seth K. (GM): Goblin 3 takes a potshot at Toothix while shouting, "Not if we kill YOU first."
rolling 1d20 + 4 (12)+4=16
Tark: Tark uses a free action to ask "So, can I trust you to handle the almost dead one?"
Tark: ooc as payment I’m going to treat the bushes as not difficult terrain even if they were
rolling 1d20 + 5 (18)+5=23
Seth K. (GM): OOC The bushes provide cover, never said they were difficult terrain
Tark: ooc yes thats 6 tiles
ooc or did they remove diagonals again in 5th ed and I didn’t notice?

rolling 1d8 + 3 (1)+3=4
Seth K. (GM): OOC actually diagonally it is more like 5 tiles, even if I count 1 tile as difficult terrain that is still only 6 tiles
Tark: ooc: haha, oh well. Still have tree cover and shield vs the other goblin (who will crit)
I was worst case scenario treating the tree as 'not allowed to diagonal past'

Markus Navarre: Goblin 3 gulps and mutters in goblin, "Oh crud, now I think I made him mad."
Markus swings around the wagon saying, "I'll try" as Markus use his bonus action to switch his Hex to Goblin 4 and then unleashes an Eldritch Bolt at it. rolling 1d20 + 5 (17)+5=22
Seth K. (GM): rolling 1d10 (8)=8, rolling 1d6 (3)=3
Seth K. (GM): Goblin 4 screams as it suffers 11dmg and drops to the ground as teh Eldritch Bolt smashes into it.
(OOC If you’re wondering, Hex adds 1d6dmg to each of my attacks on the target creature
OOC in addition to the disadvantage on a stat roll)
OOC Lucy it is your turn.
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC nice. at least you are in his face now
Tark: ooc yeah, still a net gain. done ooc

Seth K. (GM): Goblin 2 cries out in pain upon being struck, "No get away from me."
Tark: Tark tries to ignore the snarl in the space time continum (pesky old god magic), and then advances upon the closest archer. He lands the weakest blow possible, which is still almost enough to kill the thing.
"Stop being a jerk"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy stands up and says, "You brutes! Do you really wish to throw your lives away like this?! There is a better way!" and with that, white fireballs swirl around her head before dancing down her arm and blasting at goblin 3 from her hand!
(Reflex save)
Lucy holds her other hand towards Varis, somewhat protectively.
Seth K. (GM): rolling 1d20 + 2 (13)+2=15, OOC Goblin 3 makes the save.
Varis moves forward and takes another shot at Goblin 3
Varis Naïnodel: rolling 1d20 + 5 (5)+5=10
Varis grumbles as he misses again.
Seth K. (GM): Goblin 2 drops his shortbow and draws his scimitar as he is tries to fend off Tark
rolling 1d20 + 4 (11)+4= 15
Goblin 2 blinks and glances at his shortsword muttering in Goblin, "I should have listened to mother... I don't think I'm going to survive this."
OOC Toothix, your turn
Chris F. (GM): ooc i can juuust flank if i take AoO

Seth K. (GM): Markus telepathically asks everyone in the party, "let's try to take one of these guys alive by knocking him out."
OOC that isn't enough to flank.
Tark: ooc :set axes to stun, captain
Chris F. (GM): ooc but i'll take the risk of missing over being hit
Seth K. (GM): OOC roll it
Tark: ooc dont even need proper flank in 5th. just need two dudes next to em
Chris F. (GM): ooc setting weapons to stun. does that mean penalty to hit?
Tark: ooc :nah, it’s like 4th ed still
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "The first good little gobby to surrender gets to live!"
Seth K. (GM): OOC no penalty to hit for stun with a weapon
Chris F. (GM): ooc oh? nice
Seth K. (GM): ooc Only melee weapons can knock out, ranged can't

Toothix: rolling d20+5 battleaxe (8)+5=13, rolling d20+5 battleaxe (let's try that again) (18)+5=23
Tark: ooc :two weapons man justified already
Toothix: rolling d8+3 (6)+3=9
Tark: ooc :We call his second axe, 'Do over'
Seth K. (GM): OOC and goblin 2 goes down
OOC heh
Chris F. (GM): ooc so was tark right that flanking only needs 2 ppl adjacent? not opposite sides? if so, i can still attack gob 2
Seth K. (GM): let me check that
Tark: ooc :true, advantage
ooc yeah it's just 'another ally within 5 of the enemy'
Seth K. (GM): OOC which page is that on?
Tark: ooc :ill need to look for it because the book hates sorting and the word 'flank' appears to not exist
Seth K. (GM): OOC I know that works when someone uses the help action but that wasn't done here
Chris F. (GM): ooc may not matter if i roll low

Toothix: rolling d20+5 (8)+5= 13
Seth K. (GM): well how many axes do you have?
Chris F. (GM): ooc there ya go. fail my next roll whenever it happesn
ooc was using 1 of my 6 javelins
Seth K. (GM): ooc ah
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC Should be Tark's turn now
Tark: OOC guess I was remembering PT rules.
Seth K. (GM): ooc I don't think there is flanking in 5e as that would be free advantage what you’re thinking of is sneak dmg works if the enemy has an ally within 5ft of it
Tark: ooc that may be what I was thinking of and reverse translating to flank. ANYWAYS
ooc does the dead horse count as cover, if you answered I missed
Chris F. (GM): ooc no flanking? Interesting
Seth K. (GM): OOC well goblin 3 is 60ft from you, and they don't count as cover unless you go prone next to them.

Tark: rolling 1d20 + 5 (9)+5=14 ooc oh well.
Tark moves behind better cover, and then just barely misses the remaining goblin with a javelin.
Seth K. (GM): Goblin 3 yelps as the javelin almost takes his head off and tries to flee, dashing off into the distance.
Tark: "note to self, pick that back up"
Seth K. (GM): OOC Goblin 3 did a dash action
Markus Navarre: Markus moves up around the wagon and horse and as his bonus action shifts the Hex onto Goblin 3 and tries to chuck an Eldritch Blast at the Goblin despite the cover. (Hex giving disadvantage on dex) rolling 1d20 + 5 (2) +5= 7
Markus mutters, "Didn't think that would hit, but still he isn't going to be going anywhere stealthily for a while.
OOC And Lucy has a chance to drop the goblin with Sacred Flame, which ignores cover... heh
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy hops off the wagon and yells, "That's not a surrender! Come back here, little gobby!" and flings her hand in his direction! Flames spout at him!
(OOC: Reflex 13 or 1d8 dmg)
Markus Navarre: rolling 1d20 + 2
(18)+2=20, rolling 1d20 + 2(6)+2= 8
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC O.o
Markus Navarre: (OOC goblin had disadvantage on dex... so failed)
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC OK that is awesome

rolling 1d8 (1)=1
Tark: ooc 120 feet like a javelin none of the range penalty
Markus Navarre: OOC Hex is nice like that disadvantage on an ability score of my choice... heh)
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC aaaand 1 damage. unless I roll twice also
Markus Navarre: OOC you don't roll dmg twice
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC 3 - 1 = 2
Tark: ooc wait Im thinking of Eldritch range. still, nice shot lucy
ooc I mean, you hit him. which is more than a lot of the encounter can say so far
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC ty
Markus Navarre: OOC sacred flame is 60ft and that shot was at 55ft
Tark: ooc yup.

Varis Naïnodel: Varis moves over to get a clear line of sight on the fleeing goblin and takes another shot at him. rolling 1d20 + 5 (18)+5=23
Tark: ooc finally!
Varis Naïnodel: OOC Finally!

rolling 1d8 + 3 (8)+3=11
Tark: ooc and your damage mod alone takes care of the jo-oh wow yeah he's got a hole through him you can see through
Seth K. (GM): And the arrow goes into Goblin 3's spine and the goblin drops like a puppet whose strings have been cut.
OOC and that is before sneak dmg, which could have been another 1d6 if it applies
And with the last goblin being defeated, the battle is over, now what does the group do with Goblin 2 who is only knocked out.
Tark: Tark trusts toothix to keep an eye on the unconscious goblin. As he goes over to grab his Javelin. Then he grabs the arrow out of the other goblin and walks back over. "I brought back your useful arrow, Varis."
"I don't know where the not so useful ones went:
Varis Naïnodel: Varis takes the arrow and replies, "Thanks, and I think I'll snag a few more arrows off these goblins, they won't be needing them anymore."
Toothix: drags the body of the knocked out goblin to Markus. "Here ya go."
Varis Naïnodel:
rolling 2d20 + -4 (18+1)+-4= 15 OOC That is the number of remaining arrows the Goblins had between them.
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy goes to heal Varus, "Oh dear... you're hurt."
Varis Naïnodel: Varis mutters, "I've had worse."
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC So as to not waste spells, how does medicine skill work?
Tark: "Yeah, you could have gotten hit more than once, like Toothix"
Seth K. (GM): It is used to stabilize people at negative or 0hp, and to treat poison/disease
Tark: ooc : Medicine is completely useless for actual healing because it's nor magical

Lucy Mooncrusher: rolling 1d8 (5)=5 (OOC plus casting mod. Varis is healed to full)
Tark: ooc : also Varis totally has at least one hit die to self-heal with.

Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy reaches over to pet Varis' shoulder and his wounds close and vanish!
Varis Naïnodel: "Thanks, someone go tie up that goblin, while I see what I can find on the three that didn't make it. Also make sure to strip that goblin of weapons and search for anything that might help us find out where whoever owned those horses ended up."
Markus Navarre: Markus asks, "Does anyone speak Goblin? If not we know they speak common, also who is best at intimidation? As we don't know how willing this guy will be to cooperate with us."
Toothix: "I can speak goblin."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "Toothix looks pretty intimidating."
Seth K. (GM): OOC is someone going to take a closer look at the horses?
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC I will
Seth K. (GM): OOC make an investigation check, remember the +5 from your feat
OOC int roll +5 due to feat if you’re not proficient in it

Tark: "The goblins were yelling at us in Common, so there is that. Also I think goblins write the same orcs."
"I also guess I could threaten to squish his head" Yes Tark is racially trained in intimidate, and the rules suggest he might even be able to use STR
Toothix: "So... What exactly are we expecting to learn by questioning this goblin?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: rolling 1d20 + 5 (13)+5=18
Lucy says over her shoulder, "For one thing, where the owners of the horses are."
Seth K. (GM): Lucy recognizes the horses as thsoe belonging to Gundren Rockseeker and Sildar Hallwinter, the horses have been dead for a day, and it is clear the arrows killed the horses. Also the saddlebags have been looted, but nearby is an empty leather map case.
Tark: OOC brb outta water
Markus Navarre: Markus says, "Well we can learn where they took Gundren and Sildar, since it is obvious their bodies aren't here."
Seth K. (GM): OOC Unclaimed party loot and party XP total is listed in the character description for the Forgotten realms narrator in RPoL.
Toothix: "Very well. So someone who's good at healing should wake this sorry fool up."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy ohs and heads over to the goblin
Varis Naïnodel: "Make sure the goblin is tied up well first."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy checks the goblin for hidden blades in his sleeves or belt. Then lets the men handle tying the goblin.
Varis Naïnodel: Varis dumps the goblin's gear, minus the arrows he took for himself, into the wagon.
Tark: ooc back
Varis Naïnodel: OOC wb

Toothix: hogties the goblin. "Wakie wakie"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy then patches up the goblin to wake him to consciousness
Seth K. (GM): The Goblin wakes up and looks around and grumbles, "I knew I should have listened to my mother."
Tark: "Where is our boss. Alternatively, where is our boss's money so we still get paid."
Seth K. (GM): OOC Intimidation check.
Tark: ooc can I literally pick him up with STR or do I stick to CHA hurting his feelings
Seth K. (GM): OOC you can pick him up using STR (You got the strength to do so and don't need to roll that) but cha to intimidate him
Tark: ooc *crumples up another tidbit from the book* got it, ill skip the physical effort then
Seth K. (GM): OOC if you pick him up I'll let you make the roll with advantage due to the situation
Tark: ooc Thanks. rolling 1d20 + 3 (2)+3= 5

Toothix: rolling d20 intimidate (16)=16
Tark: ooc cause im gonna need it
ooc or we could just let toothix deal with this like a pro

rolling 1d20 + 3 (3)+3=6
ooc yuuuuup
Seth K. (GM): OOC I think the 19 will be sufficient remember Tark you had advantage due to picking him up.

Tark: Tark picks the goblin up, looks him right in the eye, and says "Could you please tell us what you did with our boss" ... There is a time and place for manners, Tark
Chris F. (GM): ooc dungeon starting. Will be sporadic responding
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "I sure am glad you all are on *my* side."
Seth K. (GM): The goblin literally pisses himself as he stutters, "Th-that depends on who your boss is." The goblin looks confused as he doesn't know who the group's boss is.
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC not sarcasm. Lucy meant it after seeing Toothix intimidation
Tark: Tark is very glad to have been holding the goblin at arm’s reach, then
Seth K. (GM): OOC Tark I know you have intimidate as a halforc, but it isn't on your character sheet on RPoL
Tark: ooc :ah, forgot to list it. along with my languages duuur

Markus Navarre: Markus glares at the Goblin and says, "The dwarf whose dead horse is here, also where is the human who was with him."
Lucy Mooncrusher: hungry. grabbing desert (OOC)
Seth K. (GM): The Goblin gulps and stammers out quickly, "Oh him! Klarg got a message from King Grol regarding him a few days ago. We were hired by someone named the Black Spider to watch out for the dwarf, capture him and send him and anything he had with him back to King Grol. Even his map is now headed to King Grol, but the human is being held in the 'eating cave'."
Tark: Tark does not need a non-negative INT modifier to know that's not a good name for a cave you want to be in
"Right, where is the creepy named cave"
Varis Naïnodel: Varis sighs, "Well at least we know Gundren is safe for the moment, since they need him alive, not so sure about Sildar though."
Seth K. (GM): The Goblin says, "Take the trail to the north, behind the thickets."
Markus Navarre: Markus asks, "Okay how many goblins are in this 'eating cave'."
Seth K. (GM): The goblin hesitated for a moment, thinking about the answer before replying, "Fewer than twenty right now."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy looks at the one piece of evidence she found at the horses to see if there is anything inside of it
(OOC) bak
Tark: "Stupid question, why is it called the Eating cave"
OOC: wb
Seth K. (GM): The horses have been thoroughly looted. The goblin answers, "Because it’s where we go to eat. We have made camp there for the time being. At least till we are ordered to head back to Cragmaw Castle.”
Lucy Mooncrusher: (OOC) rereads... ah. EMPTY leather map case
Lucy asks, "Do you eat people?"
Chris F. (GM): "19 goblins isn't worth any amount of gold. I say we just call this job a loss."
Seth K. (GM): OOC you’re assuming you’re facing all 19 at once in one room.
Tark: ooc yeah, but just 4 was already enough of a cluster**** as it is. Also, toothix is the one who almost died, more than once
"I'm sure there's an amount worth it. But, that would probably be more than '10 gold each'."
Varis Naïnodel: Varis grins and says, "Probably is worth more than ten gold, we can negotiate the bonus for saving their hides once we rescue them. Plus now that we know where they are, we can ambush them instead of them ambushing us."
Toothix:Toothix laughs at Tark's point and nods.
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "It's a cave... I have an idea."
Markus Navarre: Markus chuckles at Tark's comment and says, "Well we can always lure them into ambushes with a few illusions. Anyone skilled at making traps?"
Varis Naïnodel: "Lucy, what is the idea? And I can help out with those Illusions Markus"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "I'm not skilled at making traps, but I was thinking we could make a fire at the entrance, smoking them out into a trap set at the entrance."
Varis Naïnodel: "Hmm we'd have to see the enterence first, it could try to smoke them out, but then we'd face them ALL at once."
Tark: "Well, I got a hunting trap. but I didn't make it. Though I got a shovel and holes are relativly easy to dig."
"okay if it's all of them then it will have to be a big hole"
Varis Naïnodel: Varis imagines the hilarity of goblins rushing into a pit trap but asks, "As amusing as that would be, will we have time to dig such a trap at the entrance of their cave, without them noticing the sounds?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "I think Markus was on to something with using illusions."
Tark: "probably. dirt isn't as loud as rocks."
Markus Navarre: Markus nods and looks back and forth between Lucy and Varis, "Well if Varis and I both use Minor Illusion we can cover sound and an illusionary object. That could draw attention to a specific spot, where we ambush them in small groups.
Tark: "I hope its groups smaller than-" he checks the bodies "four"
Varis Naïnodel: Varis nods and says, "We won't know till we check it out."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "Varis has a point. Let's go there first and make a plan then."
Lucy then looks around. "Is everyone OK?"
Toothix: "Nothing a day's worth of rest wouldn't cure.
Tark: "I’m kind of amazed I didn't get hit, I guess this adventure stuff really is less dangerous than being a lumberjack of miner", "...for me personally."
Markus Navarre: Markus says, "Well then let's get off the road, and rest up for at least an hour before we get to this cave. Then we can decide if we are going to enter the cave then or tomorrow"
Chris F. (GM): ooc boss fight
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC Presumably, I can't short-rest my heal powers back?
Tark: "Today are 19 or less goblins attacking us without Lucy able to ask her Goddess nicely to close our stab wounds. In which case this time, you get to go first Markus"
Markus Navarre: OOC no you can't, also you still have 2 cantrips and 2 lvl 1 spells to add to yuor character shee

Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy says, "If you bunch want me to be able to close your wounds during the fight, I suggest sleep before we mess with the cave."
(OOC) I'm working on that
Varis Naïnodel: "That works for me, although we should find a good campsite for the night, and be careful since we don't want anyone stumbling onto us during the night."
Tark: "Don't worry. Anyone trying to follow us in the dark would stumble over the dead horses first."
Silly Tark, environmental hazards don't happen to random encounter enemies
Markus Navarre: "Only if they came to us from our destination."
Tark: Tark blinks.. "So, we're going to find the campsite by traveling back the way we came, or something?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy looks at the goblin. "Is your mom still alive, little one?"
Seth K. (GM): Goblin shakes his head, "Not sure, haven't spoken with her since two winters ago."
Toothix: "Well you cooperated, so I plan on letting you live in spite of trying to kill us for money. Say... Suppose your kin would be interested in bartering for our boss? Like, would they see the wisdom in selling them to us for cargo?"
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy is about to speak when Toothix makes a great point
Seth K. (GM): The Goblin shakes his head, "No, Klarg is our leader, he is a bugbear who answers to King Grol, and he hasn't been told to trade away a prisoner."
Toothix: sighs. "I figured as much. Only way to our gold is through a pile of dead goblins. Marvelous."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy mutters, "Organized goblins..."
Tark: "Why wouldn't king groll like free..." He quietly asks Markus "What were we transporting again?"
Toothix: looks over to Lucy. "Not that unusual."
Markus Navarre: Markus points out, "And a Bugbear, he said Klarg is a bugbear, that we will probably have to squish."
Lucy Mooncrusher: Lucy looks at Toothix, "Well... meaning more than just a clan. I miss spoke."
Chris F. (GM): ooc SQUISH!
Markus Navarre: "We aren't transporting anything but standard supplies, probably not worth more than 100gp total, but the map our boss had, that might be what they were after, and if it is encrypted, they'd need the boss to read the map."
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC lol...
OOC Sorry guys... my eyes are done.
Tark: ooc sleep goods
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC I gotta head to bed. Thanks for running, Seth! Was a fun start!
Tark: ooc thanks for the setup and run through Seth
Markus Navarre: OOC well we can camp for the night and pick up next time heading to the cave.
Lucy Mooncrusher: OOC Also, Chris and I may be available tomorrow night
Seth K. (GM): OOC just did a random encounter roll, no event during the night.
Tark: ooc It admitedly went better than I expected.
But that's because it wasn't Tark who got beaten nearly to death multiple times during the initial missothon of our heroes
ooc tanks Toothix!
Seth K. (GM): OOC going to load the map for the cave since we won't have any trouble reaching it.
Toothix: :)
Tark: gotcha
Toothix: starvin. afk food.
