Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

Fast forwarding a bit, the group has an epic long journey through difficult wilderness and finally com upon civilization.  Beyond the rocky mountains that mark the end of the desert lies a vast forest.  A nation of elves call the place home, and a small treetop village is the first to welcome the heroes.  Imp introduces the group in her typical boasting way, and the elves look delighted.

"While word of your great deeds have not preceded you this far from your home, you all certainly look the part."

"We are in need of some capable adventurers such as yourselves."

"Yes.  A  green dragon called the Dawn fancies herself a deity and has attracted reptilian followers that raid our settlements.  The we would be most grateful if you were to find their temple and end the threat."

Hmm, SHOULD Matt splurge on a poison resistance Feat?  His Immunizing armor keeps getting justified enough as it is.

"It does seem to be the sort of thing we do these days."  Considering this is a small elfy treehouse land, it makes more sense the Dragon has not been 360 noscoped to death by cool elves by now.

Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

Angel smiles. She looks around herself at all the elves, taking in the elven archers and their beautiful bows. She makes a mental note to ask specifically for the honor of obtaining an elvish bow once they deal with the threat. "We will face this self-claimed Dawn."

She looks at her team. "Though if she fancies herself a deity and we are able to defeat her, does this mean we won't have far to go before we can each start claiming to be the equals of godlings?"

Maverick says, "I once knew a toddler who would claim herself a princess. No experience with politics. No royal bloodline."

Angel nods. "Fair enough. Though the desire to be a princess is a pretty common girl thing."

Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

"Mittens is the princess of pain!" Imp boasts.

"Does that make me the princess of hugs?" Cherub says with an impish smile.  Random hug to nearest willing person.

"I don't remember ever wanting to have anything to do with politics," Mits says.

"Thank you all ever so much!"

"Most likely their lair is in one of the areas forbidden to us or we would likely have found it by now.  Fortunately you are not bound by any such restrictions."

"Not that we could survive the dangers of those places even if we weren't forbidden."

"...there is that, yes."

A detailed map of the forest is handed over with the forbidden regions clearly marked.

"Why exactly are those areas forbidden?  That has a tendency to matter."

Like that one time Elves asked a guy to remove poachers from a sacred wood, and never told them they didn't do it themselves because of the 'instant kill anyone who attacks another person' spell on the area.

Angel answers Mittens, "Well to a little girl, being a princess has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with being treated nice, being given a pretty dress, and being given a pretty crown. But maybe it's more a human culture thing."

Angel looks the map over while she waits for the elves to answer Matt's valid question.

...she'll likely double-check her crossbow on the way to the location of the dragon.

"Because of the deadly wildlife."

"Deadly plantlife too.  And very dangerous terrain."

Imp pffs.  "Oh is that all?  We stomp stuff like that all the time."

"Kinda figured."

Sure enough, predatory animal and plant monsters attack with expected frequency as the heroes search but are easily brushed aside.  Before long, the group finds the hideout judging from all the recent tracks around the entrance.

The PCs find themselves deep in the woods before a
temple carved with reptile and sun imagery.
When the PCs open the temple door, read:

A verdant flaming arrowhead burns in the center of the
chamber, pointing toward a curtain of green fire in the
opposite wall, behind two pairs of decorative pillars. Two
large snake-headed humanoids stand nearby, threatening
you with huge swords. Behind them, two robed snake-creatures, each wearing a holy symbol that depicts a sun with a
female face, raise their bows and nock arrows.

Perception Check
DC 16: The emerald flames of the arrowhead crackle like
a bonfire but give off no heat.

Matt's perc check says that unless that thing is harmful to non reptiles or some other specific trapness, totally loot it for sweet lightning purposes.

If only they could find a dungeon with a lava lamp.

"I'm a bit hazy on the specifics of Yuan-Ti at the moment beyond the obvious, but that's totally Yuan-ti.  The only consistent theme is Snaaaaaaakes.  Some of them are a pile of snakes. Some of them are basically snakey shifters."

Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

The two big snakes slither up to Mittens and Matt, the first casually swings it's blade turning Mittens into a plural, before wrapping around Matt and dragging him further into the room despite his manly blacksmithness.

The second is less fortunate, as his sword bounces off Matt's shield with a clank that sound suspiciously like ker-three.  The first hiss sighs, lowering it's hand it was going to offer a high five with, moment ruined.

With the frontliners out of the way though, one of the sharpshooters moves further into cover, blending in with the pillar as it shoots Carla with it's poisonous arrow.  The second... is still stringing up it's bow, come oooon you have +12 initiative!

Carla seems uneffected by the poison, but does show signs of dizziness from being hit. She shakes a finger at the archer, eyes locked with his. The snake feels the weight of judgement hanging over him and waiting for him to try anything...

Her pupils focus as she shakes off the dizziness.

Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

Matt fails to struggle out of the snakes coils  "It's useless huma-BIT MAH TUNG!"  Matt's smashing his shield into the abominations jaw however, is much more effective in loosening it's grip.

The snakes do not take kindly to this, as one of the archer's shoots Matt in the back, and the second's sword trims stray strands from Matt's beard before it wraps around him, leaving the blacksmith worse off than before (grabbed and dazed is worse than grabbed and no damage).

The first abomination spits blood, then slashes their sword at the seemingly less dangerous target, a small child.  He draws blood, but fails to invade Maverick's personal space.

The remaining archer just plain whiffs Maverick entirely.

(Retroactive tattoo based revenge goes here.)
For its efforts, the ranged snake gets an armful of crossbow bolt and barely dodges lasers (he must be part walrus). Maverick didn't happen to have a ranged weapon out, so he misses out on the vengeance (noooo!)

Matt:
Move: fail to escape.
Standard: Tide of iron hits, 9 DMG, shoves so breaks grab.

Abomination 1:

standard: stab mavrick, hit. 9 Damage, marks, 5 ongoing poison (Save ends, resisted).

Abomination 2:
Move: duh.
standard: stab misses matt.
Minor: grab hits matt.

Archer 2: Shoots Matt, 16 DMG, nails the secondary.  dazed, 5 ongoing (save ends)

Archer 1:  Misses Maverick.

Re: Ascension of Heroes: Dungeon Delve

A repeat performance is given as Matt fails to flex his way out, so smashes his shield into snake snout.

One archer misses Maverick, the other steps back and shoots Gabe in his angelic face.

Like before, discouraged by shields to the face an Abomination goes after an easier target, flanking, stabbing, and grabbing Cherub.  Wow, so much easier attacking children than armed and armored adults, go figure!

The bleeding visibly abomination slashes maverick, but fails to wrap their tail around Angel.

Matt:
pre turn save throws: made.
Move: fail escape.
standard: tide of iron vs Abom 2. hits. push 1 (freed).  21 DMG.

Shoots at Gabe. hits. 11 DMG.  Dazed, 5 poison ongoing (save ends both, resisted poison I believe).

Abomination 1:
Move to flank Cherub.
Stabs cherub. 16 DMG.
grabs cherub.

Abomination 2: Fails everything vs Maverick.

Sharp 1: Miss Mav.

Radiant zaps all around. 10 damage to sharps. 15 to abominations.

Gabriel looks a little dizzy and shakes his head before lunging towards the snake, missing a punch.

Carla and Rainbow walk to the center of the room. Carla holds out a hand and a battle standard appears in the area next to her. It has the Raven Queen's symbol on it and the whole room fills with a cold wind as frost begins appearing on the walls.

The heroes don't feel uncomfortable despite the cold. But for the baddies, it is downright painfully cold.
