Re: Ironmound...The City
The Gates they entered was the Avenue of Kings. Once called this, because what 'kings' ( or queens) may have been around at that time had palaces there.
Since those times... Kings and Queens are Gone from the Empire... though the Lands Ruled by Hargen still have many... the Avenues are very, very wide.. the streets are normal streets.
as they looked abiut , they saw BArracks on each side of the gates.. with compounds around them.
on the south corner is a large area with many beggars calling out for alms. some Holy warriors stand close to protect them form thieves or rude visitors.
straight ahead was the Mighty Palace of the Emperors.... a very high wall... was in front of a moat.. that was in front of yet, another wall.. with the Palace rising like a tree,..... Off in the distance was one thing a bit Taller.. The Iron Mound itself... claimed to have been set by the gods..when people could barely cover themselves with animal skins.. the Rich ore from the heavans, make keen weapons. much sought after.. and very high priced...The Dwarves do not give them out, or sell them freely, even to thier own kind.
turning eastward the group sees many Inns and taverns..Ax and Blade on the left hand ( as they are walking)..there appears to be another at the end of a short street that leads almost to the wall.. the Street is called Rest Street...
On thier left, they pass a slightly wider 'normal; street, Called the Street of Heroes... on that same side some 500 yards or more is another street called Lords Ave ( the lords did not want to have the name 'street' ) to the left was Spear ST...A Shop called Marten's Missles was on the western conter..another shop was slightly behind it... The Forest Tavern is on the east corner. Large walls rise from the tress and Buildings, the walls of the South Gate River Guard.... from this side they can see the tiny figures of troopers , on the River gate parpits and some of the samller ships sailing in.. The drawbridge they are Nearing is down... dozens of bloody nooses hand from the inside of that Bridge.
Crossing the Bridge they can see the MAin docks... the massive Storm river gets wider here.. and , when the suns right.. the shadows of Serpants can be seen crusing along the with the ships.. waiting for slavers that might be tossed in as treats for the serpants... tiny fishing boats dot the River as the fisherman vie with the serpents for food and commerace. Smoke risined from the ship yards.. to the north east.. and behind that are the walls of the arena. used to both punish prisoners, and make coin for the City's upkeep... After Crossing the Busy drawbridge, Justin turns to hsio right, to lead then down the Street of Wares.. the smell of fish and such is strog here as people fish the shores for food..or..if they are lucky..make a decent catch on a serpernt to sell at the market..
On their right is the shop Lamps and Lanters...Further down a shop called Furs... there are some of the Orcs who live in there own walled section of the city there, as well as some northmen who are talking as they ready to take in thier catch. ' Ship's Ahoy ' is a busines for renting out samller boats , up to one masted sloops... there the road curves to the east.. and Justin walks down a worn stone covered path,
As always there are some of the 'normal' criminals that are working off their sentences, by cleaning and maintaining the river walls.... sharp eyed guards look over the area with laoded crossbows...in case of escape..or..serpents.
They reach the wharf iteslf.. seeing large merchant ships... Privateer warships and other such carft.. they are dwarfed in size by the Ironmond Naval ships made of Ironwood of Black Oak... On such warship is heading Up river, to take its trun on patrol.. two smaller Navy sloops sail with it... But the extra flag on its stern the ship is also an ocean going warship...
All the Military ships are docked on the farside. just south of the 'Mound".
The Streetof waves is reached that leads to the Market to the east.. the Dockside rest is the First Inn on the wharf...the second sports a sign that is a cross between gnome skil and magic... a wooden board sticks out from the loer end of the 2nd floor window, that is above the door..a small figure that appears to have its hands tied behind it back..toddles down the wood until it 'falls off'.. it is then pulled under the board.. and begins the walk once more.
The Sign say " Walk the Plank"
a small fellow runs out to them, Justin remember's his name as Fetcher. ..welcome Back!..where's the Boss?... did you find and the fellow scampers north ward as two men walk down the gankplank of a 'traveling' ship. slavers ?..Oh..wait..there's a prospect.. i better go chat him up....
