OLANT

The  Long  boat sailed down the  Storm River. Now  and then a Serpent would  be seen across the way,  snagging at  Duck or Goose, or perhaps   Just  rolling over in the water, making its  way towards the shores where   Reed  where thick.

2 hours  or so into the trip, The Docks of  Olant could be seen. Three Large ships  where Docked there. One had a Pirate Flag, another   was a Merchant, the third..a bit smaller, Flew the flag of  the Red Isle Haflings.

Kree Stood  at the Bow   looking over the ships. the Merchant ship was  unloading...the other  two ships seemed to have been there  a while.

Cousin!...Do not let that Red Isle  Flag veer you from our  course!  Ivy Laughed as he said it...at the same Time he was checking his knife fan to make certain his throwing  daggers were secure, yet, easy to reach.

Aye, Ivyian...but that does not mean  we cannot leave a few bodies in  a few alleys , before we leave.

A Longboat is nearing the Docks some elves and other  folk are standing in it while rowers  row. They are nearing the  docks.

The Olant 'guard' have a group of  Six moving  down the Docks to watch these  newcomers  approach.

The Inn Near the Docks. Hook's , is a rough place.... Down the   Muddy street is  Cods Ale and  another Building called  Cods  Rooms..Nicer.,.but price is much higher.

Rising  from the Middle of the town is the  tower of the  Karth Temple. One of the few  Temples to that god  , still in operation.

Another  Temple 'honors' all gods. Around the Inside of the Building  are Samml shrines with a statue of each god. a small slot  allows  alms to be dropped inh...Clerics  of those gods   collect the   coin from time to time, to deliver it to the Greater Temples in Ironmound.

Luthien, wearing his shining armor, was just too unsubtle to be part of any sort of 'stealth' team. So he'd continue going forward as an Arrow openly. Since they were here, he'd be the 'straight man' of sorts to the sneakier types, maintaining a visible presence so the rest could do what they do.

Re: OLANT

..I think not....not yet at any rate....the  Boatswain will alert The Savage Queen...The Halfling ship cannot  travle too far up river...it will never  get through Ironmound, even  should they trade flags....The Pirate ship could, but it will be marked by The Captain, once  the Long boat retruns..our first action..is  to go about asking questions....

Two Dock hands  reach out  for the  Ropes, and Kree signals the other s to disembark. He leaves  LAst, tossing a Pouch to the Boatswain, Thank yuou for the Ride  across the river...Tell Your Captain, I hope to see him soon...

The Boatswain catches the pouch and grins, then the  Long  Boat Pushes off to head back up River. By the Time the Boat has  Cleared the Docks, the  Patrol stops at the end of the Docks.

  State Yer Busniess....

Kree Pushes Past the others to  reach the man who seems to be the SGt, He grins darkly at him,..My ...Business?..is killing scum like you and your men..now then..we came into Olant for  some downtime...maybe a trip up the  Furman's Chain...but if you want me to conduct Business...  he  draws his Blade hallway, I shall start now?

The  other 5  Men(one is an orc) try to draw their Blades..the SGT Hold up his hand,..Arrows...gods be damned  Arrows...go on with ya...But mind yer blades...ya kill anyone that don't need Killing , we'll gut you for serpent bait..

Kree sneers at the man while slamming   his sword back into its sheath, and shoulders Past the   SGT.. He makes his way to Hooks ( which is  right on the Docks..three other Buildings are there..but all deal with ship supplies  and  equipment. There is a dirt road that leads to the walls of Olant, at the  Western end of the Dock.

Riku nods but dislikes the idea of not knowing what's ahead.  She flutters about as the group steps off the boat and onto land.  Hearing the banter between the folk, she bobbles with the pouch at her side.

Just let me know which one, Master, she said to Kree.  I've got something he'll won't soon not forget.

Her jargon a jestful one at that.

Cru cautiously stepped off the boat and as the rest prepare to take food to the town, the dock keepers approached appearing to begin trouble, but were soon brought to attention whom they would be facing.  This put a strong knot in his stomach, but with a much needed warning towards the group, they let them pass.

He walks towards Kree quickly and towards him.  Must I expect a greeting of such each town we come across, he asked more curious than angst.

She knew enough to be on her guard at all times.  She had seen the consequences of letting down her guard, in towns like this before.  As she followed the other arrows, she observed those around them.  Watching for "tells", things that would separate out a potential ally from a sworn enemy.

Lucy kept her distance from the other arrows.  While anyone observing her couldn't be completely sure if the was an arrow or not.  She knew towns like Olant, and she also knew that "her kind" had an "in." Catfolk were expected to be slavers and the like.  While she really hated playing that role, she had found it extremely useful in the past.  Especially when dealing with towns like Olant.
that's why she kept her distance, yet kept close.

When the Arrows got to where they were going, she asked Kee if she could have a word with him.

"I have an idea that could work.  I know you are probably opposed to being undercover, but I think I am an exeption to that rule.  I can blend in with the catfolk, and their ilk, and see what can be found out.  I just need two others to go with me." She said.

"When I was up north, and coming this way, there was word of a Catfolk information broker.  He wasn't a slaver, but instead, he was a broker of information.  So, if you wanted information on a good place to hit, you went to him.  The last I heard, he was in Olant.  If I can find him, for a price, we can get some information." She said.

Rolf looks at the town of Olant with barely concealed contempt.  He minded not the women plying their trade.  He cared little for what he'd heard of the Halfling folk and would quickly put blade to them if needs be, and of course slavers of all stripe deserved to be put down.  But for a town to not only allow, but openly accept the Cat Folk, that was enough to turn his stomach.

For now, he would keep his mouth shut, his eyes and ears open and his blade sheathed and he'd keep it that way until he had good reason to do otherwise.

Before entering the Town, The  Group walked into  Hook's that was on the docks.  , Kree  Looked at a brunette that was  Smiling  by the Door, he gave her a small smile, but  walked past her..which cause her to frown , just a Bit.  He grasped the Handle of the Doulble doors  and opened them Both swinging them Open HArd...on purpose. the  right Door  caught a  Heavy set Human in the back and caused Him to splash His ale  on another Human who sat at a small round table near the  Door.

The Heavy set Man Shouted,..YOu there!..You gods be damned , pointed  ear BAstard..You own Me a drink...and some coin to go with it..  The elf  Looks  over his shoulder at the man  and sneers, never stopping.. The MAn  Reaches  for a  Mace that hangs from His belt, Did You not hear ,me!

Kree kept walking to the Bar, his eyes  set on the Tender. Ivy  chuckles   and says to the fellow,...Do not press your Luck...Round bottom....The Sisters like he, alot more then they like you...

The Heavy set fellow turns  and grits his  teeth at Ivy...his eyes  note the Pin on Ivy's  Tunic...the  Big Man looks to  Kree and talks his hand off the Mace.

At the BAr,  Kree makes no pretense  of politeness as he shoulders  between a Man and a woman, both  dressed as Pirates..He leans over the bar , the Tender takes a step back,..The Captain of the HAlfling Ship.....now....

The  Tender Looks at two Pirates..both of them Move off.  The woman had  her hand on her Dirk, until she saw some of the others  at the door.

..Lookit..every time  some of yours come to town..people die...Just..leave us alone...

..you want me to ask again?

The Tender looks at people around him..some  are  weighing those who followed the 2 elves in......Captain  Buttonsnip?...She's  In the  Town...think she's  bar hopping, trying to recruit crew.....

Kree eyes the  fellow...the  Tender Looks scared, as  he  keeps wiping the same Goblet he had  since the group entered. The elf   Reaches Inside his  tunic  and   slams  5 gold  down on the bar,..Thank ye.....but?..If i find she's not there?...I will be back...and...well..You will not like it....

Taking a Pitcher of Ale from those lined up on the  bar, He turns and heads back to the Door, slams the Pitcher on the  table, sloshing  ale as he says to the  Heavy Man,..There is your  drink...tonight?..Thank Tymora, I am in a goodly mood...

Walkingout the Door, he  points to the  dirt road that leads to Olant Itself...as they Walk, He says to the Group,...we need to work this town..and quickly...right now..word is going to travel , that I am Looking for the Halfing Captain.... Lucy has a Plan, she needs  two folks to work with Her...it cannot be  Ivy or Myself..we are too well known...if we are to split up..we must do it before we enter the Gates..who is going where..with Who...i want everyone at the Iron Mace by 1 hr after sunset...

Re: OLANT

Tatton is sitting in the same dark corner of the Hook that he's been sitting in for the last several days, nursing his ale like it's likely to be his last and staring off into space.  He's been sitting in that seat day after day long enough now to have become a fixture--ignoring and largely ignored by everybody in the place.

Even when the commotion starts by the door with the stranger slamming the door open; Tatton doesn't really pay any attention.  Fights and arguments are commonplace in the Hook and he's learned that the trick to staying out of trouble is to not make eye contact with anyone.  Then the newcomer asks about the Halfling captain and Tatton hears that from all the way across the room.  Now they have his attention.  Straining and hanging on every word, Tatton listens for the answer and watches as the man, no, elf exits.

Gulping the last of the ale from his tankard, the fixture leaves his seat and makes a beeline for the door.  Instead of walking through it, he peeks out to see the stranger and a goodly sized group walking up the track into Olant.  Tatton swallows hard, his throat has suddenly gone dry, and steps out to watch them move away and hears mention of the Iron Mace.  Quickly, the scruffy, dirty man slips down the alley to the back of the Hook where the stables are located and after a quick glance around, digs through the moldering hay to retrieve his backpack and staff.

After slipping his pack on, he stops and shakes his head and mumbles to himself, "Tat, what are you doing?  You've no idea what you're gettin' yourself in for."  Slipping the glove off his right hand, Tatton looks down at his palm for a long moment then nods his head as if he's made a decision.  Slipping the glove back on, he grabs his staff and with a grim expression sets out toward Olant.  There has to be a reason why the mark has returned and his "gut feeling" is too clear to ignore.

"Tra, if you're the cause of this, I'm listening," he mumbles as he steps back into the open on the track toward Olant.

Tatton looks up for the first time as his foot strikes the path toward Olant.  Realizing that the group isn't as far ahead of him as he thought they would be, the scruffy man hesitates for just an instant then speeds up.  Head down and walking with a purpose, he passes right through the loosely gathered group and continues at a good pace through the gate.

His clothes are worn and dirty. As he walks by, you realize that his vest was once green with white trim.  Now it is greenish gray and the white is more brown.  The remainder of his clothes are unremarkable, if you discount the filth, except for his gloves with the finger-tips cut out and a golden pendent of an arrow that has slipped out of the neck of his shirt.  It is obvious, as he walks by, that it is not just his clothes that are dirty.

Re: OLANT

Lucy approaches first Lar, and then Riku.
"I have a lead, but I need some back up." She says to them.
""When I was up north, and coming this way, there was word of a Catfolk information broker." She said.
"Word is that he never, ever deals in slaves, but only brokers in information.  If you need information about that caravan that you have heard is hauling that great haul, he's the one you would go to.  Rumor has it that he either can get quickly, or has access to information to anything.  The last that I heard he was in Olant." She said.
"So, I was wondering if you would like to help me hunt his ass down." She said.
"Usually all of his information comes at a price.  But I'm sure if we ask nicely, he might divulge information what we are looking for." She said with a broad grin.

As they came closer to the town, Riku did what she does best...she went invisible.  Hanging over the heads of others, she overheard the questions, inquiries and ideas.  Having her own idea, she ventured off to explore the down.  Going this way and that, and checking for spots where unbeknownst questionables would be.  She was listening for clues, details, information.

Not getting much of anywhere, Riku had existed the Tavern and headed to the place she last saw Kree and some of the others enter.  Remaining seen as she left, when the first opportunity arose, she went back to invisible as she entered that next building.  She did a search around and located Kree, giving a low whistle for him to ackknowledge she was there.

Well, she's not back at her ship, she whispered to him.  She's got to be wandering about...where, I don't know.  Any suggestions?

They have her friend captured, she escaped last night, and wishes to find passage to Ironmound. That's easy enough, but finding her friend would be a bit more challenging. Can we work it in?

"Also, you need to act like you've seen things like this before." She said.  "I know your first reaction will be to do something, but you can't. Not now.  Later, we can come back and skin these bastards alive if you want to, but right now, we need to get in and out.

The Meow was, in human terms a "dive" bar.  Signs of slavery were everywhere.  Every race was represented.  There were various acts going on as they walked in.  To the left, someone was being beaten and crying out for mercy.  Another was being literally eaten alive, by two large tigers.  Another was being tattooed as property.
Sex acts of a wide variety were going on in another corner.

Lucy went up to the bar.
"I'm looking for Tran." She said to the bartender."
"Never heard of a Tran." The bartender said.
"Tell Tran that Lucy is here, and looking to get back in the game." She said.
She tossed several coins on the bar.
"I'll see if I can find this "tran" you are looking for." The barkeep said.

They got a table, out of the way, with a bit of privacy.

Several minutes a large Jaguar found them.  The Jaguar looked like a Cat mix like Lucy, but instead of Elf he looked like he was mixed with human.

"Lucy!" He said in a stern voice.  "You have a hell of a lot of nerve showing up here, after the stun you pulled!" He scolded.  Then a wide grin broke out on his face.
He gave Lucy a huge hug.
"Damn, girl, it's been what, 5 years? What the hell have you been into?  I had heard that you went all law and order." He said.
Then he turned and looked at her companions, taking in Justin for a long moment.
"Damn, I guess those rumors were true." He said, his voice going somewhat more cold.

"Tran, this is Lar and Justin.  Justin is a bodyguard.  And Lar is my partner.  We need to find the Broker." She said. "We have a job, and we need his ... expertise."

"The Broker? Last I heard he was in Twi-La up north." He said.
"Tran, don't bullshit me.  I KNOW for a fact that he's in Olant.  Besides, you owe me.  In fact, you owe me several times over.  I'm calling in a major favor.  I need you to find him.  And when you do, send a messenger to this place." She said, writing down the name of the inn she was staying at.
"You have one hour." She said.
"Damn, girl, you are just as demanding as I remember." He said, his smile now gone.
"Yeah, he's in Olant.  Staying at the Garden Inn.  Has the entire top two floors to himself.  Just a word or warning though, if you go in swords raging, you wont' stand a chance.  Chances are, he already knows you are here, and looking for him.  He'll make contact with you." He said.
"Stay out of Trouble Tran.  Remember, you still owe we several favors, and I'd like to collect from you, not your kin." Lucy said in a very cold voice.

With that, Tran rose and left.

"Come on, we need to get the hell out of here." Lucy said to the others.

Riku had looked about this "meow bar" with vague interest.  She wasn't looking to see what was going on, but who was doing what to who.  Looking for details or evidence for later use, she'd heard the Inn name where Tran was and once they'd departed she mumbled softly for Lucy to hear.

Need me to scope it out, she said.  That place....gave me the creeps and I'm a fae.

Personally, she wanted to vomit.  What went on at the Meow to her was as disgusting as anything she had ever seen.  Although, truth be told, she had seen worse.  Just not in one place.
Except for Tran, she would have had no qualms about skinning every last catfolk in the bar.  But she needed Tran.  He owed her and she damned sure wanted to collect.

Even with the warning from Lucy, Lar was not prepared for what went on in the Meow bar.  Fortunately the dim light disguised his paleness as he took in the debauchery and worse inside the bar.  As Lucy talked to her contact he remained quiet, nodding when he was introduced but otherwise silent.

When they finally were outside he shuddered.  "That place should be burned to the ground.  Let's get this over with."

"Justin, I said you were a bodyguard, because it fit the situation.  Telling them you are a Paladin would have been very counter productive, and probably would have caused more trouble then we need right now.  You want to go back and burn the place to the ground, Hey, I'm right there with you.  Frankly, I wouldn't mind skinning some of those sons of bitches myself.  But right now, we are looking for information." Lucy said.

"So, do you guys want to take a break, or get this over with?" She asked.  "I know these things can be very .... intense.  The Garden isn't nearly as bad, more upscale.  The Broker wouldn't be caught dead at the Meow.  Not his scene.  We find him, get the information that we need, and then we can deal with the Meow later." Lucy said.
"But first, we need to stay with the mission.  That's find out what we want to know from the Broker." She said.

Lar shrugged as the paladin objected to being characterized as a bodyguard.  For a moment he thought to join the discussion and then shook his head.  Typically it didn't pay to engage such in a discussion of religion or ethics as their minds were almost always firmly made up well in advance.

"I say we go ahead and get things over with Lucy.  The sooner we finish the sooner we can get back to the rest of the group and share the information."
He considered Justin.  "If the situation is in conflict with your morals you should head back to the rest of the group Justin.  I respect your dedication and would not see you placed in a situation that might compromise them."

The Garden was four blocks over in the "nicer" part of Olant.  In fact, it rather stood out.  The insides were very nice, and compared to the Meow were opulent.
There was a long bar, where humans, elves and other races, including catfolk drank side by side.

From the ceiling hung huge chandeliers that were made of the finest crystal.  It was clear that the Garden was one of the finest and richest places in Olant.

She drank only half of her drink.  She rose from her bar chair, and headed to where the broker was.

"Use your forgetfulness dust when we are done." She whispered to Riku.

He had just concluded business, and turned to both of them.

"We would like to do some business." She said to him.  She handed him a handful of coins.
"We are looking for information on Princess <fill in her name here, because I forgot her name>. " She said.

Being in a building versus a nice, large comfortable tree limb, Crucian was quite a bit restless.  Along with all the newities of this situation, plus his companion rustling about, he figured he'd go back down to the tavern part of the Inn and wrestle up something to drink for them both.

Just as he stepped foot down onto the level that Justin was on, he saw that Justin was in quite a predicament.

Boy, he yelled from the stairwell.  I told ya it be best to come to bed.  Now do it before I have ta sick my wolf on ye.

He hefted his dagger and walked straight towards Justin.  Standing a foot shorter than Justin, only his dagger would be the intimidating feature about him.  His companion who stood between Cru's hip and shoulder sniffed at Justin and the others around him.

Children, he said looking at the men around him.  Can't ever get them to listen.  Don't make me have to flog you myself before these men.

"Excuse me, but WE are conducting business here.  You can wait your turn." She said in a calm voice.

Her hand was inching to her blade, and she watched the intruder very carefully.  She gave Lars a slight nod towards the guard who had been happy to see them arrive.

If things went down, she had the intruder, and hoped Lars could take out the guard.

"What kind of outfit do you run here? You usually allow your business meetings to be intruded like this? Hell, if  a two year old can just walz in here while we are having a meeting, then I'd be surprised if half the bar knows what our business is." She said, pretending to be very pissed off.
"I was told YOU were a professional.  Frankly, sir, I don't know where your got that reputation, because obviously, it's pure crap.  Utterly pathetic!" She snarled.

She stepped towards the intruder, standing three feet away from him.  The claws of her left hand had been tracted out.  Her right hand was on a dagger ready should at the first sign of trouble.

"As for you, asshole, you can damned well wait your turn!" She said with a hiss.
"I don't give a rat shit what business you have with him, but until ours is done, you will damned well wait your turn." She snarled.

"And if you have a problem with that, then feel froggy and leap." She snarled and hissed.

As The Broker  went through the Door, His   Guards   drew their  weapons as they followed, keeping watch on both  Lucy and the Blackman.

The Blackman Looked at Lucy, One hand each on the Hilt of  a curved  blade that sat on each hip. He was about to say something, when LArs  asked the question, his head jerked Up  as he looked at Lars,..The Arrows  are no good for Business....They cause trouble, whereever they go..they Kill my customers..or my employers..or...they kill my prey..if the group was small enough?. I might be able to end them here..tonight..if nay?. I must be  away...

There is a Gruff voice  from above, on the  banistered hall above the  BAr that leads to rooms. A Large Fellow  with a twohanded sword strapped to his back, leans on the banister as he drinks from a Mug. next to him is a drow female, wearing  Black leather  armor of shorts...she has the look of a MAgeling, yet her leather armor  glistens in the lamp light...Fero? I am thinking  that you leave ...now..by that side door...there... he motions to the  the right  side of the Building.

..and your Cat girlfriend will leave  with her people  By the MAin door....I'll not have  my place of Business fouled with Blood  that i did not draw myself.

there  soulds  around them....the  click of a crossbow string being loaded...the  rustle of an arrow  being drawn from a quiver....the hiss of  a few blades  being drawn... as  Fero and the others look around they can see men and women who have readied  weapons..all have  an armband that  matches that of the MAn on the  landing...a Back image of a Plant that appears to have teeth.

"My apologies." She called out to the man on the landing.  "I only wanted to conduct business and be on my way.  This ... half breed piece of shit intruded on that business." She says, staring at the Blackman.
"So, by your leave, I and my companion will be on our way." She said, with a bow to the man on the landing.

"By the way, your name is?" she asked the Blackman.  "I ask, that I may know the name of the stupid son of a bitch, who is about to die later today, that I may send word to his next of kin." She snarled.

She had retracted her claws just before her hands were raised.  She lowered her hands, retreating out the main door, her eyes never leaving the Blackman.  She had made sure to get his scent.  That would make tracking him, and identifying him later.

Lucy arrive at the inn, and went looking for Riku.  She sensed something was wrong.

"Riku, are you okay?" She asked.  "What happened?" She asked.  "You followed The Broker and that was the last we saw of you." She said.

There was clear concern in her voice.  She wanted to put a hand on her new friend, but wasn't sure if it would work or not.

Evil enough to make Riku sick...

Luthien shook his head.

"If a fiend is involved, it explains much of how the Broker gets his information in the first place, doesn't it? Fiends can listen in on conversations and report to their masters with little real trouble. And as far as humans or even catfolk are concerned, a fiend is neutral...it wants terrible things for all mortals by default. It only favors one side or the other when it feels doing so can increase the malevolence in the world."

As for the fiend still being there...

"It may, brother Justin, and it may not. People like us are capable of slaying a fiend outright, instead of merely sending it back to its own plane. It'll take the threat quite seriously and get out, in a typically cowardly fashion, rather then face us. Fiends live forever, until they get on the wrong end of our blades. They thus tend to want to avoid that."

I'd actually guess the Hells, as denizens of the Abyss have too much trouble keeping their words to be of much use to an information broker. Also, creatures of the 9 Hells tend to use slavery more...denizens of the Abyss aren't that organized, they eat souls first and ask questions later. Either way...a creature like that has more evil inside of it then every catfolk that ever lived, mostly because it's literally a physical embodiment of evil. Riku, having grabbed the rest of Kree's drink and took the rest of it down.  She shook off whatever "ick" she was still feeling from and looked between Kree and the others.

This was much darker than your friend that aids, she said crossing her arm.  I'm certain we could take her down, not that I'd fear doing it.  It would be a very dangerous road to tread.  However, I think with my knowing where the "Broker" goes and whom he speaks with, we can use this information to our benefit.

She looks to Luthien and Lars. Let's hold on any formal attack until she or any of hers does harm to any of us.  Me, shaken up, that's nothing.  I let myself be there.  Ii am fine, though a big disgusted and creeped out.  Nothing that a battle is worth, at this moment.  It was brought up by the Broker than others were asking for information of the Arrows, this dark thing didn't seem to care much.

If "it" new I was there, nothing was said or made mention of.  Once again, we can use that to our benefit and I can return...ick factor and all...and get more information by snooping in.

Well, perhaps he could persuade the Commander to come back and kill it later. Twould be a far far better thing that they did then they have ever done before, for every permanent death of a demon or devil pushes the cosmic balance a bit more towards light.

Lucy was thrown at that.
To everyone's knowledge, the broker didn't have a boss.  He was one of the best independent operators around.

"His boss?" Lucy said, completely shocked.

"Wow." She said.  "That can't be right.  The Broker has a reputation for being an independent operator.  Basically, only supplying information, and never taking sides.  To have a boss, especially a dark one, would destroy his reputation as an independent operator.  I've know sources on both sides who have gone to him for information.  Granted, he has a shadier reputation, and tends to help the darker sides, but up north, I know a few merc units who have gone to him for information.  Granted they paid for it, but it was always good.  There was never a sign of him working for anyone else." She said.

She was quiet for a moment.

"Did you managed to get anything else?" She asked.  "One of the guys we ran into in the inn, where we found the Broker was really upset that the Arrows were in town.  It's possible that the two are related." She said.

"Kree, I am not naïve.  Word has always been that he has operatives and agents.  Even regular people who come across information go to him, because he gets paid.
I've known informants who supplied information to whoever paid, and I know for a fact that was these informants supplied the Broker." She said.

"Look, you have to understand something about up north.  Information is valuable. Perhaps more then here.  Someone like the broker can make an extremely good living dealing out accurate information.    There are also those who trade information for information.  I have something you want to know, so you tell me something that I want to know.  That kind of thing goes on all the time.  So, I have information, on, say the Arrows.  I want information on the next medium caravan.  I'll trade.  Usually, the Broker gets a commission on whatever booty gets taken.  There's ALWAYS someone looking for information.  So, someone who wants information on the Arrows, goes to the broker and buys the information.  He makes a profit.  So, not only does he get the price for selling information on the Arrows, he also gets a 10% commission on whatever booty is sold by the caravan raid." Lucy said.

"Then again, I guess the north is also a hell of a lot different then the south.  Things work different.  But I do know this.  If the Broker is working for someone, that news will travel like wildfire.  And up north, reputation does mean a lot. You and the Arrows would had to make adjustments, but I can see you doing just fine.  Maybe one day, you will have to travel up north." She said with a smile.

Truth be told, Diana was glad to be on her way.  The town had bored her and offered little.  The lone game of cards was about.

When Kree had given the order to mount up they were leaving, Diana was right behind him out the door.  At the stoppage, she drew her bow, targeting the pirates who were trying to close in.

If the order came down to open fire, and frankly, she was really hoping that it would, she had her two targets already spied out.  She drew back on her bow, taking aim at the first target.

Then she waited for the order to be given.

....before you choose....let me  remind you..that your letter of  marque and  our Ltter of Marque. puts   us at war...not that i would need a reason to kill a HAlfling......the best you can hope  for...

and he says this  as his Voice raises a bit, so more folks can hear,..that you some how escape..and  you only lose the foolish  Crewmembers that have gathered here...In the  Swamp?..there are  some 40 dead Pirates..who thought they could take us....do you think you could fare better in the streets...

The  Halfling   looked about..not moving her  head, but her eyes...some of the Crew had stopped..a couple even backed up.

WHAT THE 9 HELLS IS GOING ON!  from the Right side of the gate the Half-Orc  came with  6  of his Men.

...I want to Kill Quickshadow, and  as many of his  Arrows  as  I can....  the  Halfling  spit through her teeth.

Yeah? Well..Get in line!..No fighting in my city...not in the damn streets...and not where people  can get hurt...

Kree's  smile was meant to make the HAlfling angry,..Well...The   'Law" just saved your life...

where are you Going , Quickshadow?

We  are going on a Hunt....

Then get out of here...You?...Halfling, You take you sorry assed flunkies and go to your ship...

...aw....I was hoping to cut  down on the pirate population....

The   Half-orcs  men put themselves in between the Halfling and the Arrows, The  Captain  motioned Kree's folks to move forward.

The GAtes  are Opened..some of the crew are already headed back to the ship.

Before the ick could return to creep on her flesh, she fluttered quickly back towards the group.

Rolf wipes the sweat from his brow and pushes onwards.  He was sure exactly how much further ahead the others were, but he had to be getting close.  The trip back from the ship was going well and had given him some much needed time on his own.  He was a private sort and had not had any time to himself since he reached this troubled land.

But as much as he had enjoyed the time alone, it's a dangerous land yet and while he had plied his blade and his bow to good effect on the way, he is ready to catch up with the others.  Even though he was slowed having to track them, he still was making pretty good time.

It's almost a surprise when he comes over a slight raise in the land to see the simple little camp ahead, familiar faces in clear evidence.  He raises his hand, not only in greeting, but also to show he was not wielding a weapon.  Paranoid one might say, but his companions were always quick to see threats and quicker to respond to them with deadly intent.

Moving in closer, he speaks up.  "Greetings." which for the taciturn ranger was almost a speech.

Rolf stays silent as the marching order is given.  He of course would rather have the rear guard as was his normal role, but he'd been ordered towards the middle.  He could only assume that Kree felt him better able to protect their guest then he could do as rear guard.

He'd traveled long and hard, but a good nights sleep and hot food had restored much of his energy and another day's march, at a much more sedate pace than most he'd enjoyed of late, shouldn't prove too taxing.

Boll was to be the Next stop, the  Rutted  road, that some  folks tried to  fix  with  Rocks  and trunks of trees..was  wide enough  for  two wagons to pass each other..but over hanging trees, Fallen trees and  even rockslides, ( when the road was closest tothe foot of the Mountains.)

They had  pushed hardm they saw only two wagons, each had   a pair of rough looking  guards, one was a tin smith, with pots  and pans  ect..the other was Butcher, who had bough some meat from the Hunters in Bolls, to sell back at Olant...

Sticking close to the magics, the canine went about sensing any bad that would be headed their way.  When it was all clear, he headed back to Cru.

Riku had been watching the animal from atop the trees, when the rain started, she floated back down and found a dry branch she could rest on.  The rain getting heavier ended that and now was a time she dreaded not having her own tent to rest in.

Nodding to Riku, the pair of them would go home in on the source of darkness. Whatever its darkness was, he was reasonably confident it would not overcome his light.

But he'd have to be careful too. Not all forms of darkness were necessarily an evil. There was a time and a place for a sword.

Luthien kind of regrets being so merciful now, he'd never have brought in a vampire had he known of it. In fact, he'd have been tempted to leave her for the sun.

But...having already shown mercy, he can't very well take it back now.

So he steps over to Justin.

He's not sure what to do about it. Forcing her into the sunlight with presented holy symbols would surely deal with the problem...except for the fact that the Commander clearly didn't consider this a problem! Still, he feels guilty now.

Of course, there was also the fact she had to rest in her coffin, and unless she'd dragged it along with her, she'd have to go clear back to town to find any rest. So maybe she'd be gone before the night was through.

Luthien went ahead and aired them, then.

"It is, to say the least, rather irregular for people like us to work with the undead. It is...difficult to believe that a vampire can be trustworthy, let alone a worthy friend. This says nothing against who she might've been before she was turned, but negative energy has a decisively corrupting influence on those who are."

Of course, she could've simply crushed the Commander's will with her gaze, but Kree was hardly exhibiting the traits of one who'd been dominated by a vampire's gaze.

"I would, at the least, like to hear how such a friendship was formed...and what makes her different enough from other vampires to make her trustworthy in the first place. It is not a common trait among them, after all. Though I must admit my sense of darkness picks up...strange readings from her. I don't suppose there was a helmet of moral and ethical reversal involved, or something?"

(OOC:By which I mean helm of opposite alignment, but I don't think characters would say the word 'alignment.')

We hit the Slavers, through surprise..and Sheer Bloodlust..there was a small clan of Vampires there...they had been  Captured  by the slavers..using  HolyChains..they forced them to  turn  the slavers..ever so slightly, so that the slavers could have the power of the VAmps, but none of the weakness...not a real smart choice..but..slavers  are not noted for being smart...

..Ivy went down early..he  leaned  againstt he wall and tried to use his bow..The  Slaver Leader was about to brink his Axe down on  Ivy..I could not stop it  from where I was, as I had gone to Blades..Nara was knew...she had been freed, just a month before  on another  Raid...she Joined us  ...well..she   Attacked the Leader from the BAck..Even as her blade slide trough  his Back, His BAttle  Axe caught her Head.. she fell  Hurt..Dying...most of Us were hurt or dead.

Luthien nods. It WAS highly unusual for a vampire to put herself at risk.

"Speaking of which, where is she sleeping for the day? Unless her newfound ethics grants her resistance to the sun somehow, she must be in her coffin by daybreak. The story of how she turned is interesting, by the way, but it doesn't explain why she retains any of her humanity. There are people, Holy Warriors even, more powerful and of greater purity then I who lost all semblance of honor when they became undead. It is highly unusual for anyone to resist the corruption of the undead. As for warning vampires, it is difficult to imagine any scenario where I might wish to warn vampires of anything. Stake them, certainly. Rip the top off their shelter and expose them to the sun, absolutely. But warn them?"

Luthien does look a little confused about how this happened, but he did still bring her here and did not draw his sword upon her even when he had her alone in the rain.

Even hearing the story, she found it hard to believe.  She, too, had been brought up on tales of how to deal with vampires and their ilk.

She was going to say something, when the half-breed spoke up.  Diana gave her a glare.  She still didn't trust her.  But she didn't say what she wanted either.

So, she remained silent.  However, she would keep a very close eye on that blood sucker, that much was for damned sure.

While she trusted Kree, this was the first time she doubted his decisions.  However, she chose to let things play out.  She just hoped that she would be ready, incase the blood sucker made any kind of move.

Riku nodded at the comment and looked to find a branch that she could rest on above the fire.  NO luck, instead she poked at Ivy or Kree to pull up a small log for her to rest on by the fire.  When that had been moved, she laid down and closed her eyes.  The sound of the rain putting her to sleep.

the night passed  somewhat quiet, the  Thick stone of the  Ruins   help keep the rain at bay, and the fire  kept it rather  warm..The Canvas tok a beating , but held out the rain. The passage to  the Back let in some fresh air, now  and then as  a stray gust of  wind would find its  way through the trees.

An Hour  Before Sunrise, Nara shook Kree  and  said she was going to get to Olant before the   the Sun Crested the   Mountains to the South..she promised to relay the message, but first she needed to find  some slaver folk to feed on.

Like that..she was gone, The  elf  began  to take  down his Canvas shaking the water out off the wet side..and Hanging it near the fire  for a bit.

..Make yourselves ready..we have the stuffs for mush and the fire is  warm...somethign warm in out  bellies  should help us reach Bol  By late day....

Diana couldn't wait to get on the road.  She had slept extremely restlessly with the vampire in the camp, waking up every 20 or 30 minutes or so, to make sure the beast hadn't done anything rash.  Then again, if the vamp had gone all ... vampire, she probably wouldn't have known it anyway.

She saddled her horse and got ready to ride out.

Lucy nodded at the order to take point.
While she had slept soundly, she had also slept lightly.  It was a cat thing.  A couple of times she had woken up during the night, but it was usually the others moving about or something like that.

She saddled her horse, gave a "giddy up." and went galloping into the distance on point.

Even we Paladins don't have our bonded mounts yet, because the GM hasn't thought of anything tough enough to survive working with the arrows.

I suspect someday, Sir Justin and I will be riding Bullettes. Or landsharks. Nothing in its right mind wants to mess with those.

Well, maybe we'll pick up a pair of bullettes soon so we Paladins can have our class feature in a meaningful way. Probably be s mated pair, I think. (Fortunately for the world, the Bullettes become Lawful Good when they bond with us, and gain +2 intelligence besides, Otherwise, Bullettes would be a public menace) :)

Rolf makes short work of the hot breakfast.  In his efforts to catch up, he'd had many days of cold trail rations.  But he was ready for the days march, if they did not reach the city by nightfall, it would not be because Rolf couldn't keep pace.

Pulling together his geal, Rolf falls into his assigned position in the rear of the march.

Re: OLANT

The  Group  was  moving fast..or at least as  Fast as  Kree  Could urge them On. Every now and again, he would return and express the need for them to  keep moving.

A few  times , the  main group could see  Bodies  in various states of decay, that were staked to Trees  with Runes  carved in their  Foreheads...or skull..depending on how long they had been there...some of the Bodies  were Missing Limbs and such, from scavengers  that prowl the  lands.

Lucy  found  another  Goblin, about  half a day from their starting point, its throat ripped out, it looked  well empty of  blood.

Ivy's  Whistle, a note to  tell the  Group someone was coming down the road...

Three  Men,  dressed in Leathers, two had  Long bows one , a heavy crossbow. they each had  a melee weapon, and their  right shoulder held the Patch of  Boll's  Militia. The Nodded as they  walked past the Group,..Fare You well, in your travels, Arrows....beware...a  tribe of Goblins  are running amok..We have been Hunting them the past week or so...

Seeing the approaching wagon, Rolf quickly pulls up his bow stave and in a well practiced motion, strings in in next to no time.  He notches an arrow, but holds the bow down, the string unbent.  The human with the longbow would likely be his target, unless things change and one thing about fighting, things had a way of changing.

Lucy, for her part, showed no signs of drawing a weapon, even leaving her hands at her side.
Although, as they got closer, her elven features became more aparent.  She hoped that might go in her favor.

She did let out a whistle alerting the rest of the group as the wagon approached.
Although she kept her hands at her sides, her sword and bow were hand, and withing very easy reach, should the need arise.
