True enough..if that  happens to  be watching at that time!

as a sidebar to that, the   Cancer  research  place  is doing  much more people that a church ever  could.. It was on my route for the last 15 or so years of my career.. One of the Doctore   was ther e  when i came off the elevator to get some  stuff signed for..I mentined to him theplace  was built on my old  church.. and  walked  about 10 yards  and said.."I was married  right here..".. My Late  wife  got to take advantage  of the   Breast  cancer  center  that was built  right above it.. saving us  travel to Pittsburgh...

anyway as far  as D&D and a few other   Fantasy  series, there are  Clerics who  either are  too  hardnosed..or  flat out corrupt.. and rarely do they get 'punished' until  the end of the book when the 'good guy' cleric  brings more light then the elder  does.

Eh. I was under the impression the gods are always watching their people. That's why Paladins can lose their powers for even a single evil act in 2nd Edition. There are no second chances for willingly committed evil.

I think it is because no villain sees themselves as a Villain. Good clerics doing bad things don't see those things as bad, so they don't question them, and thus, don't ask for forgiveness, etc. You also have to look at the god themselves. A Lawful Neutral god of Retribution could have clerics that are Lawful Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, and... Lawful Evil. Consider that only one of those alignments is actually good, leaving a lot of grey area.

It gets even more complicated when you consider that this particular god can alao have Paladins in their service. As well as Anti-Paladins. You can have direct opposition in the same faith.

I personally am a fan of the gods of death. But not in the "oooh I'm creepy and creating an army of undead" way. I play a lot of warriors who kill a lot of stuff. They are perfect instruments for a god or goddess of death, and when someone or something kills them, it was their time.

To take a quote from a famous, fictional character, "I seen a lot of stiffs. Seein' one makes me, I dunno, wanna do stuff, or if there's a willing woman about. Not that a corpse gets me... it's just I put a lot of'em in the ground Preacher. And in my line of work we don't live too long. One of'em could be me is all."

I paraphrased it, but the point is that someone who follows a god or goddess of death doesn't have to be someone who is necessarily evil, let alone someone who wants to end life. A mercenary who kills a lot of people in the line of duty is perfectly acceptable to me.

this also lends itself ( in my world) to the colors  of white, grey and Dark when some one tested for  evil (good)..it depends on the view point

The Arrows  wiping out a camp of slavers   is seen good  by most..perhaps  Grey  by  other Mercs.. and Black by other slavers.

Holy warriors ( paladins ) are the most likely to feel the praise of thier gods, as well as  the balcklash

That creates an interesting paradox, where the Paladins are actually more in tune with their deity than the clerics and priests. The gods are watching more closely, so they feel the effect of their god in their lives more consistently (beyond standard spellcasting, of course.)

yep.. had  we switched  over to my homebrew system, the effect would  sharper ...But i wanted to bring the flavor of   Priests who are 'desk jockeys'..some  might have to be..some  want to be..some want to be there because that's where the coin stops

Clerics who can't  abide just sitting  around   in prayer or  copying books..but can go out  and spread the word ( and..maybe lessen the numbers of thier god's  foes)

And Paladins whose soul purpose is to go out   in the world and be a beacon, while enforcing thier view of Justice....

In the arena  , in Ironmound , there are times  where Paladines  can  fight  for thier Temple ( god)..Healers  a present..but..as  in any case..folks can die..depending on the   holy day, thier  Temple  will receive a  big sum from the Emperor and  be the Head of the Temple board..until the next time.

That also means the Inquisitions come from the Paladins, and desk jockeys are terrified of the Paladins coming by. Because if the priest is less than pure in how he serves his diety, he won't show up white on the radar. (The child molesting cleric/priest of Eta shows up black to the Paladin of Eta, and that's the end of him...)

Every time a Paladin comes by, the priest quakes in his boots wondering if this is the day his misdeeds get exposed...

I would, however, suggest that the gods do get a read on their clerics and priests every time they grant spell, and that's how they adjust the aura based on how faithful they're being.

Just in case - I am out on military duty until 25 March, but I have daily access and will try to keep up.  Also, if Cassie seems quiet, it's because her and her player are confused.  She likely would have gone out on the town, as she understands that!  But as to what missions we might do... not so much.  Maybe I'm just not tracking, I guess.

for those at the Plank....

I cannot  just have a 'summation' post.

I need to know , who all is going  where..

If Justin assigns  you a healign potion, you must record  it on your cheet.. if you don't have it listed..you don't have it

Once that is  all settled you must tell me where you will go and the path your will take ( map is in the map area  , you want the  map of 'the lands'

Ironwood  is not   'friends' of the BlackTimber, because  the Black Timber  refused, and even  fought  Ironmound, to portect their  Ironwood , and Black walnut trees...  The Black Timber sends  a summons to    Ironmound  every few months for  loggers to come,  they are heavily watched, as  Wardens   keep an eye on them, while  druids show them which trees they may cut...  The Ironwood elevs took up arms against thier cousins... while the Trace wood Elves  and Highpeak swarves sided  with  the BlackTimber...The Black Timber won.. and it is a sore point with the Ironwood elevs who sold off  alot of thier trees  to gain coin and favor. The HUmans  still hold a  grudge against  the  Trace Wood  and  BlackTimber Elves, but  do..indeed like having their bows on   the Empire side.

I cannot ( will not?) tell you which  way to go, that is all up to you and your leader.
