Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint

Kudos to Glum for a reference to the past, well done.  It may or may not be true, but it is well thought out.

Heading up the narrow stairs you hear the voice match Tanrov and start singing with him, but you can't tell if she is moving or not.  You can tell this would be a bad place to fight in.  Narrow halls and doors would make fighting with a larger(no penalty for light medium sized, 1 handed small sized) weapon difficult and movement/position would be very restricted.  A window at the top of the stairs illuminates, with the late afternoon sun, a hallway.  Bloody footprints from several individuals stand out as being a bad sign.  There is a death smell here as well.

The hallway runs the length of the house and ends in another dirty windows.  The windows are a poor quality glass, just another indication of the farmer's cheapskate spirit, as are the poorly made floor boards which creak as you step on them.  To the left there is a closed door, in the middle of the hall is a door to the right and a trapdoor to the attic (but no ladder).  At the far end is an open door on the left.  That is where the singing is coming from.  It stops and a small voice says, "Monsters", then silence.

Talis comments as you climb the stairs, "Glum, I like your fire plan better and better, but we do need to check on the child.  She could be lucky, very, very lucky."

Talis whispers "Tanrov, hold on, let's clear the doors as we go."  (Assuming he pauses) Talis will carefully open the 1st door.

Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint

The first door opens into a bedroom that has 4 beds in it, 1 of the beds looked unused, but the other 3 look lived in.  They also look died in.  There are dried blood pools on all 3 beds, but no bodies.  From the looks of it this was a boys/mens bedroom.  You think back to the 3 ghouls that attacked you wearing nightclothes.  Could this be where they were killed and turned into ghouls?

What do you do?

Glum casts Detect Undead (OOC if it wasn't used up when DM cancelled it earlier.)

DM: You still have it, so you are casting it, will post later.

Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint

It will take some time (a couple of rounds) for the spell to reveal much useful information, so what are the rest of you doing while Glum concentrates?  What is the marching order?  You are in a narrow (3' maybe) hallway.

Tanrov
Talis and Glum - in doorway
?
? - on stairs

[Private to Glum: You do detect a moderate undead aura(s).  But must concentrate to get more information.]

[Private to Glum: There is a ghoul under the near bed, what do you do (I mean in addition to what you say).]

[Private to Catessa Fallowfield: You hear the treads at the landing on the stairs creak, something is behind you.  You look and see a ghoul (adult human female, dressed in nightclothes) 10' behind you.  There is another figure behind her.  What do you do (I mean in addition to what you say).]

While we wait for Glum, Tanrov, Zer and Talis roll initiative (I have already rolled for cat and Glum).

Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint

I am placing the dogs outside, to alert you to a ghoul attack from outside.  These ghouls were already in the house.

Round surprise
Glum  turns and the ghoul under the bed screams, 10 damage on Ghoul1.

Catessa Fallowfield  & Garious  alerts the party to the attack from the rear and easily hit's for 7 dam on Ghoul2

Ghoul1, a teen male ghoul in nightclothes, is already inside polearm range, the ghoul reaches out from beneath the bed and tries to dig at Talis with his claws, but doesn't even come close from the pain and shock of Glum's positive energy.

Ghoul2, an adult female ghoul in nightclothes, steps forward 5' and tries to bite Cat, whose blast put her off her momentum and she also misses by a mile or so.

Ghoulx, an adult male ghoul, steps onto the landing behind Ghoul2.  He is dressed in plain but fine clothes, definitely not the clothes of a farmer, a merchant or something middle class maybe.  He sees Zer-wedula and smiles, "My master is looking forward to meeting you.  ATTACK!"  The last is said in a loud voice.

Tactical Situation
Cat is on a narrow stair fighting Ghoul2, with Ghoulx next in line.
Zer-wedula is at the top of the stairs and can look down both the hallway and the stairs.
Glum is in the doorway and can look down the hall or into the bedroom.
Talis is in the bedroom fighting Ghoul1
Tanrov was paying too much attention to the door where the singing was coming from and didn't get a high initiative, he can only look down the hallway.

It is a narrow hall and doorway,
to move through another persons square is treated as obstructed terrain(so x2 movement and no charging).
so for medium size weapons;
-2 handed/bludge or slash may not be used (not enough room to swing)
-2 handed/piercing may only be used in 1 direction and it is a full round action to change directions and take -4 to hit
-1 handed weapons take -4 to hit
-light weapons, no penalty
for small size weapons,
drop the restrictions by 1 level (so no penalty for 1 handed weapons)

            dam      status
Ghoul 1    - 10
Ghoul 2    - 7
Ghoul x    - 0

The ghoul is a little too close for comfort for an energy blast, so Cat lashes out with her spear. She encourages Gar to attack as well.

Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint

Round 1
Glum turns around in the narrow hallway and waits to see what will happen as there is no where for him to go.

Zer-wedula shoots and misses.

Catessa Fallowfield  & Garious  attacks Ghoul2 as a team, with Garious missing but setting Cat up for a solid hit (Though she finds her 2 handed spear difficult (-4 to hit) to wield properly on the narrow stairs.  Ghoul2 goes down.

Talis drops his polearm, pulls out his sword and smoothly skewers Ghoul1, 11 damage.

Ghoulx says "I'm surprised you don't know." as he steps forward and attacks with his claws and bite.  His bite almost connects, but Cat and Garious move as one and Cat manages to block the attack (Mounted Combat).  Showing an keen tactical intelligence, he switches to attacking Cat, but hits with only 1 of his claws for 2 dam.
Cat needs a For save dc13 or be paralyzed
At the Attack command...

Ghoul3, a concealed door next to Glum attempts to open and a ghoul  reaches out to try and bite him.  They push and pull on the door until the ghouls, with undead strength pushes it open.  She is a teenage(about 14) girl dressed in nightclothes in a closet.  The closet restricts access from the sides so only someone in Glums square (or in the bedroom through Glum's square) can attack.

Ghoul4, the door next to Tanrov opens and an adult female ghoul in night clothes attempts to bite him through the door, and misses completely.

Ghoul5, a teenage(17) female ghoul drops into the hallway from the attic, trying to claw at Tanrov, but can't get through his armor.

Tactical Situation
Cat is on a narrow stair fighting Ghoulx next in line.
Zer-wedula is at the top of the stairs and can look down both the hallway and the stairs.
Glum is in the doorway and can look down the hall or into the bedroom and is being attack by ghoul3.
Talis is in the bedroom
Tanrov is in the hallway being attacked from the front and side.
