Re: 2.0 Murder in Sandpoint
[Private to Talis Revain; Zer-wedula: Zer-wedula circulates through the scholarly community asking about Lord Foxglove and Misgivings. Tallis talks with a few people (Ameiko Kaijitsu and Sabyl). Together they learn, the Misgivings are Aldern Foxglove's local manor house. I will detail more later for the whole group. Eventually, they are both invited to meet at Madame Mvashti.]
[Private to Tanrov: Tanrov remembers growing up in Sandpoint's Academy/orphanage. Recently, ostracized by his fellow orphans he found solace with a magical friend who eventually killed a visiting monk and then pushed Tanrov down a ladder while the dwarf Glum tried to save him. He recalls leaving his body and watching as the halfling druid named Cat rushed by his nearly lifeless body without aiding him. Then death, but his spirit was troubled and did not pass on to the next life. He has vague memories of being a ghost, but his next real memory was of seeing Cat again. Tanrov possessed (for the 1st time) a kid and ran from Cat. Arriving on the scene in time to see Garth die. He watched as Garth's spirit departed and when the living people used powerful magic on Garth's body, he blacked out.
He has returned to consciousness and life in a new body, Garth's body....]
[Private to Catessa Fallowfield; Glum: You discuss the situation with the guard who will declare Rauno a wanted man.]
Madame Mvashti proclaims, "Bad number is 4, 5 better much." After consulting the cards and such she proclaims, "Wish to return, Garth spirit did not. Other dead soul still looking to live." Glum and Cat spend most of the afternoon at Madame Mvashti examining Garth and come to the conclusion that the blanket was powerful raise dead magic, but it had to be used within a few moments of death. When it was used to revive Garth, his spirit did not return, but Tanrov's spirit took his place (souls must be willing to be raised, evidently Garth wasn't willing). Normally, that would be the end of it, but somehow the soul of the dead boy Tanrov was drawn in by the magic and is now living in Garth's body. The powerful magic of the pool in the Catacombs of Wrath might have had an effect.
Effectively, Tanrov was raised in Garth's body.
You all finally meet up at Madame Mvashti's for dinner to tell what you have learned and discuss what you want to do next
who- the killer was probably a ghoul or ghoul-like creature
why- motivation is still unknown
- the killer left Zer-wedula a message to come to the Misgivings.
- The Misgivings is the home of Aldern Foxglove, the noble you rescued from the goblins.
- Tallis has the Sheriff send a man down to warn the farms around Foxglove manor to be alert for ghouls (though there is little they can do about it)
With a 20 or less Know(local) you learn:
-Foxglove Manor is 80 years old, and has been the seat of the Foxglove family the whole time. Some sort of tragedy struck the family a few decades ago, and no one’s lived there since. Common rumor holds that the place is haunted.
- Foxglove Manor is known as the “Misgivings” by some locals, particularly the Varisians. It certainly has a bad reputation, sightings of strange lights in the attic windows, muffled sounds of screaming from above and below, and even rumors of a huge bat-winged devil living in caves below the manor are but a few of the tales told about the place. The Foxglove family lived there as recently as two decades ago, but then a fire burned down the servant’s building, Cyralie Foxglove was found dead, burnt and dashed on the rocks below the cliffs behind the house and Traver Foxglove was found in his bedroom, dead by his own hand. The children, including young Aldern Foxglove, were sent away to be raised in Korvosa by distant relations.
- Aldern Foxglove recently returned to live in the manor, but he had a hell of a time hiring locals to aid him in the reconstruction and repair of the old building. Until Aldern moved back in, the place was cared for by a man named Rogors Craesby who came in three days a week from Sandpoint to air the place out, check for squatters, and make minor repairs.
It is the middle of the evening when you finish your dinner and conversations, at this point Tanrov enters the room.
What do you do about the investigation?
about Tanrov?
Feel free to add anything I posted in the PM's that you think might be relavent.
