Re: OOC and General Rules

[Private to Catessa Fallowfield: Is your character updated to 3rd level Druid/3rd Warlock?]
You are currently in a fort/dungeon complex, on an island.  There is a small tribe of goblins on the other side of a rope bridge led by a goblin druid (who is smarter and far wiser than your run-of-the-mill goblin).  After sleeping, you dealt with 2 Yeth Hounds in the Chapel and 4 Shadows in a crypt off screen (because prepared and fully buffed, neither encounter was much of a threat).  Then you found a secret door leading to a flooded treasure with a giant crab.  The crab was dealt with (though Talis took much damage) and the loot recovered.  Cat is low on spells (pick 1 per spell level), but at full hp's (except for Talis).
You have yet to try and figure out a portal leading to the demon Malfeshnekor or deal with a Tentamort in a sealed off section.  Those 2 things are all that is left, and of course, getting off the island and going home.
There are 3 ways off the island. 1) over a rope bridge guarded by goblins.  2) Swimming (Talis is worried about what might be in the howling hole).  3) Using a rowboat.

Glum:
I don't particularly want to release the wriggly monster.  I'd quite like to take out the warhorse and deal with the goblins (by negotiation if possible by violence only if necessary).
By "take out" you do mean set free?  The Warhorse is not an enemy, thanks to Cat and her wild empathy.

What precisely do you mean by "deal with"?  How big of goals does Glum have?

I mean take out of the fortress to somewhere a warhorse would be happier and more useful.  I don't necessarily mean set free, but we could find it a decent owner.

As for dealing with the goblins, my thought was to suggest to them that the fortress had been purged of vermin (apart from the wriggly thing) perhaps brick up the room where the portal is, and then suggest they reoccupy the fort with Gogmurt agreeing to a peace treaty and trade and if the goblins didn't have enough enemies here, we could help them find others rather than fighting those in the village.

Re: OOC and General Rules

I fear for game purposes, we need to take on  Malfeshnekor. My problem here, is that I think the module is supposed to take players to lvl 6. So, a lvl 5 fight, right? I have lvl 3 BAB, hps, and saving throws.

[Private to DM: Sad to say, my sheet is level 2  druid. The needed info is scattered about.]

Re: OOC and General Rules

Actually, the npc's presented in the 2nd module are all 4th level at the start.  So you guys are right on track.  I am sure you will be 4th level when you get back to Sandpoint.  Malfeshnekor is a trapped demon.  He has been trapped for who knows how long (considering these are Thalasision ruins, 1000's of years).  However, Nualia has come close to freeing it.  If you leave now, who knows what might happen.  An inquisitive goblin (apparently, Mal can make subtle contact with some goblins), allies of Nualia or others sent by Lamashtu might do something before you got back.  You can take steps (sealing the dungeon, etc...), but that is no sure thing.  Can you say, evil adventuring party?
Malfeshnekor didn't really have anything to do with the raids, so this module s basically complete with Nualia's death.  But Mal should be dealt with, eventually.  Talis feels that later would be advisable.  You do have a secret way into the lower level through an underwater tunnel the crab used.

Re: OOC and General Rules

Cat wants to Examine Portal and explore the other side while Talis doesn't want to at this time.  You could wait a day and be fully recharged, but the goblins aren't known for their patience and could try something tonight, or not.

Glum wants to negotiate with the goblins, again Talis is sure they can't be trusted to follow any treaty and he seems to think the only good goblin is a dead goblin (apparently the goblin who killed the father and ate his face really made an impact on Talis).

Zer-wedula apparently just wants to leave.

Orik (who really just wants to leave) will follow Talis and Lyrie(who is curious, but not enough to take a risk without Orik) will follow Orik.

I am really at an impasse and am not sure which way the group wants to go.

Glum/Zer-wedula do you want to Examine Portal and explore the other side now, after a nights rest (If the goblins let you have another undisturbed night) or later after returning to Sandpoint (and preparing/leveling up)?

Glum, how do you want to contact the goblins and what do you want to say?  Now, tomorrow?

It seems easier to try the portal than to contact and yak it up with the goblins.  I say rest the night and then bring on Malfeshnekor!

I am assuming I can hold the charge on a touch spell, as in I cast Touch of Idiocy, then cast True Strike, then, of course, I touch the soon to be less nasty nasty

Re: OOC and General Rules

SRD:
Touch Spells in Combat

Many spells have a range of touch. To use these spells, you cast the spell and then touch the subject, either in the same round or any time later. In the same round that you cast the spell, you may also touch (or attempt to touch) the target. You may take your move before casting the spell, after touching the target, or between casting the spell and touching the target. You can automatically touch one friend or use the spell on yourself, but to touch an opponent, you must succeed on an attack roll.
Touch Attacks

Touching an opponent with a touch spell is considered to be an armed attack and therefore does not provoke attacks of opportunity. However, the act of casting a spell does provoke an attack of opportunity. Touch attacks come in two types: melee touch attacks and ranged touch attacks. You can score critical hits with either type of attack. Your opponent’s AC against a touch attack does not include any armor bonus, shield bonus, or natural armor bonus. His size modifier, Dexterity modifier, and deflection bonus (if any) all apply normally.
Holding the Charge

If you don’t discharge the spell in the round when you cast the spell, you can hold the discharge of the spell (hold the charge) indefinitely. You can continue to make touch attacks round after round. You can touch one friend as a standard action or up to six friends as a full-round action. If you touch anything or anyone while holding a charge, even unintentionally, the spell discharges. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates. Alternatively, you may make a normal unarmed attack (or an attack with a natural weapon) while holding a charge. In this case, you aren’t considered armed and you provoke attacks of opportunity as normal for the attack. (If your unarmed attack or natural weapon attack doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity, neither does this attack.) If the attack hits, you deal normal damage for your unarmed attack or natural weapon and the spell discharges. If the attack misses, you are still holding the charge.

You can't "hold a charge" and cast another spell.

You have to cast true strike, then cast Touch of Idiocy (which includes the attack roll in the casting).   Or just start attacking.  It's a touch attack, so it's ac shouldn't be too high and missing doesn't use the spell, so you can just try again.

What?  No, you can choose any 2 least invocations in addition to your eldritch blast.  Here's a list of possible powers;

Re: OOC and General Rules

SRD:
AID ANOTHER
In melee combat, you can help a friend attack or defend by distracting or interfering with an opponent. If you’re in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action. You make an attack roll against AC 10. If you succeed, your friend gains either a +2 bonus on his next attack roll against that opponent or a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent’s next attack (your choice), as long as that attack comes before the beginning of your next turn. Multiple characters can aid the same friend, and similar bonuses stack.
You can also use this standard action to help a friend in other ways, such as when he is affected by a spell, or to assist another character’s skill check.

There you go.
