Cat, would you be ok with just E8, no gestalt?

Re: Restart character and game discussion

Ok, looking things over more closely, I vote for PF20, figuring by the time we get to the end, and I hope we do, of the campaign, we'll be fighting really tough critters. I know the concept of E6/E8 is to plan ahead, but I worry.

That said, I'd be happy to go with E8 and try it out. If so, I want input on my character.

GE8 is my last place vote.

Re: Restart character and game discussion

My two cents:

Having run Shackled City, four PCs get slaughtered, and at level 12+ the buffs and such make combat painstaking.  At level 14 or so any battle more or less becomes all or nothing.

Reading age of worms, I just said, really? Survive?

The battle with Aldern made me think gestalt saved us, but it is painful, as I see this E6/E8 could be.  With 6 PCs we could just try Pathfinder straight up, especially if the additional books/classes are added.

Given all that, DM's game, his choice, I can stick with Barb/Wizard or if we go pure PF, Z-W is back to a straight-up wizard.

Re: Restart character and game discussion

I think my preference would be the normal Pathfinder rules with the expanded options from the APG and Ultimate Magic, but I'm game to try E8 if that ends up being the decision.  I'd prefer gestalt E8 over normal, but I'm up for either.  I'll probably do a cleric of some sort, since it looks like we have plenty of melee types and, based on the rundown of the existing characters are perhaps a little short on divine casters (no pun intended). ;)

Re: Restart character and game discussion

New Information

So the backstory/recap is in the new Magnimar thread, 2.2.

Character creation rules are in  "RTJ, character creation, house rules (read first)".  Characters need to be made by next thursday (6/16).  I have a dwarf monk/cleric named Glum someone could rework if you wanted a premade backstory.  You could even change the race (through reincarnation) if you wanted.  Everyone seems to have a character concept, so Glum will fade into the background.     New folks should send me an RTJ, (or just PM) with your age statement.  I have one from the other games, but better to be safe than sorry.
We will contiune any discussion about E8 or GE8 or PF20 through monday (6/13), giving anybody with a strong opinion till then to voice it.  If you don't voice it, I will assume you don't have a strong opinion about it.  Right now I am leaning toward E8.  Ok, we will be playing E8, so plan on 8 levels, +feats.  If you take all 8 levels in 1 class, you will get (or get access to) a capstone ability to be determined at that time (the capstones from the link above are for E6), but probably a class ability from 9th or 10th (or a PRC if you take 1).  We will revisit this decision at a later point, probably after we have been at 8th level for awhile.

I would suggest you coordinate character creation, and will not be held responsible for what might happen if the group isn't balanced.
Not bad, fairly balanced.  I am looking forward to seeing your builds.

currently;
halfelf gish(fighter-type wizard)
halfling druid
human rogue/fighter-type
human fighter/rogue-type
alchemist (from APG)
samurai (cavalier from APG)
cleric

Zer will be busy for awhile, and will be bowing out for now.

Cat, Talis and Tanrov all know each other.  Miriam will be introduced by the Temple of Pharasma.  Jan and the Samurai will need an "In".  What do you want as your motivation?  I will give it some thought.

Maybe a friend of Jan's has been hurt and he is investigating that angle... :/

Re: Restart character and game discussion

Basically, there have been a string of gruesome cult murders.  The victims have been ritually mutilated and then killed.  Stories of merchants, politicians, crooked guards, and moneylenders showing up dead— their bodies mutilated, faces missing, and chests carved with seven-pointed stars—seem to be on everyone’s lips, just as it seems that every week brings a new victim to light. The crime scenes are now tightly controlled by the city government—and the temple has had little success in investigating one. Though their sources tell them there is little to find and the government is getting nowhere.

The new folks need to pick a voice color.

Re: Restart character and game discussion

Jan has a heavy accent then... ;)

Anyway, characters are coming together and should be ready to go by this weekend.

halfling druid
human rogue
human fighter/rogue-paladin
alchemist (from APG)
cleric

?samurai (cavalier from APG)

The paladin is not your typical paladin, so he shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Re: Restart character and game discussion

Well, it looks like we are just about ready to go.  I will try to do the first post today, but I have Church (Church of Christ) and then my RL group is playing today - Kingmaker AP.  We have a haunted abbey to explore.  I may not get it in.  But I will try.
