Re: 6th OOC

Whoops, I thought everyone was going to run away and abandon ship, leaving the skrag to its fate ...

Since I feel guilty, I will send a character to assist, thus earning a conscience-clearing Heroic DeathTM

Did you all know that the Japanese had kamikaze subs and boats as well as aircraft? Bonzai, indeed.

I was unaware of that.  Shame on Nintendo.

Is the round over yet?  Not sure if my guys are up now.

Re: 6th OOC

Thinking ahead or this is what I'm thinking.

After our denouement, we'll take a break for a few weeks. Next, for those who wish to continue, I'd be open to running … well some module you've never had a chance to play. I guess Tegel Manor would fall in that category for me. We can stay with DCC or switch to OSRIC. Well, I'm not really wed to any system so long as its a variant of D&D.

And, well, yes, we have reached as Japanese game designers might say, "A Bad Ending." I think there are probably three of those possible with this module, one of which would obviously be "The End of all Livers a We Know It." And the one you found.

Re: 6th OOC

First off, kudos to the GM for running a game from start to end.  On RPOL, that adds it to a very short list of mine.

Second, I found the lack of player agency in this module simultaneously hilarious and distressing; it felt like nothing we did really mattered and it was too funny discovering just how that moved the story along.

Of course, in Alien, Ripley gets her hands on some serious mecha hardware and has an airlock.  I guess Ridley Scott went for the non-Japanese ending  heheh

My future is a bit up in the air, after 3 months of nada this summer is looking super over-booked busy, and I have to paint the house, which looks, um, like a failed luck check happened somewhere.

So I will give up my seat at the table and wish everyone all the best.  I am sure we'll meet again!

Re: 6th OOC

All survivors may advance themselves to lev 1 DCC characters per the customary DCC method of advancement. Go ahead and advance your chosen prime attribute to the next level of bonus (so a 13 luck would become a 16 or a 16, an 18.)

There are couple of things islanders might have done to trigger the second act of the module, the arrival of the pirate ship (which would have triggered additional challenges). There was a mechanic by which the demon stays on the ship with the most livers. So from the last post, you can see how you might have triggered that (if you didn't already know). Honestly, I thought the Canadian folk song was as direct as I could get with a clue.

The other trigger was the lighting of a lantern on the Crow's Nest or just setting some blaze on the main deck--something to signal a ship in the vicinity.

Unlike other DCC funnels, this one had a reasonable chance of "failure" or even TPK.

Bad ending #1: TPK
Bad ending #2: Ship goes down with no survivors
Bad ending #3: What you got

I don't plan to start a new module until after the July 4th holiday. ECLA, you can rejoin, of course, after your luck improves. Or at least just check in and say hi.

Re: 6th OOC

Rules question - I'm supposed to get one or two new languages when I level up, but also my Int is so low that the book says Common is my only language.  Which one takes precedence here - does "Common only" only apply at level 0, or does "too dumb for languages" override my leveling bonus?

I wouldn't give him any additional languages; he does have an uncanny ability to communicate with quadrupeds, though.

Did he have a str penalty to begin with or have you not bumped his str yet?

Re: 6th OOC

Started at 7 (-1), so I raised it.

Honestly, with the stats Neftas rolled I thought he was the least likely of my group to survive.  But he's developed the most fun personality, so I'm not complaining.

Josh, Neftas gets his 0-level hps as well. So 0-level +8.

Hey, all. New player here. What classes are everyone taking? I want to try to bring someone complimentary. Specifically, any thieves or halflings?

I only had 1hp at 0-level.  And I forgot to mention in the die roller that I have a -1 Stamina modifier.

Honestly, I don't know how Neftas was the one who survived out of my initial trio.  But since he seems to have developed the most fun personality, I'm not complaining.

Greyband - Welcome to the game!  I have a dwarf, so your desired niche is safe from me.

Re: 6th OOC

Have you chosen a patron, Quad? Go ahead and delete your old pcs and enter the data for the new one. If you like, keep a few of their items as a miracle of inheritance.

It doesn't look any other players are going to come a knocking. Coily would like to continue but he's not up for commitment currently. So if anybody would like to roll up a 2nd 1st-level pc, please do. The adventure calls for 4-6 1st level pcs.

If you want a 2nd, pick a prime attribute before you generate the 4x. So if you wanted a wizard, you would choose int ... and then roll, roll, roll and then take the largest brain as your own. MAKE A NOTE OF THAT PRESELECTION IN THE FIRST DICE ROLL.

5d12 gold for starting cash for 1st level pcs.

So far we have a wizard, dwarf, Halfling, and a sow.

I'd like to have all of the characters settled by July 4th when I start the game.

Re: 6th OOC

Every wizard needs a goon, so I’ll probably roll one up as my second.  I’ll select a patron and get my sheet filled out soon.

Fantastic. Please create a second placeholder for me called Zaichus; I'll roll him up as a thief.

I need to roll up my starting monies for the halfling as well--could you please change this character name to Roland?

I find it easier to just focus on one character at a time, so Neftas will remain my only character for now.  Well, him and the animal companion (it's a pity Ranger or Druid weren't class options).

In reply to Quadrakill (msg # 218):

Randomly. You do get six tries on the table, though. But how are you supposed to roll above a 20? Does DCC assume all players have an electronic dice roller? It has 27 entries.
